Evaluation and impact research manager volunteer roles

Microbiology Society is looking to find a new voluntary Chair of its Audit, Risk and Evaluation Committee Please see the role description along with the Terms of Reference for the Committee.

The Chair will use their experience and knowledge to provide an external perspective on the delivery of the annual audit; the risk management of the Society’s activities; and the evaluation of those activities.

Basic Health Education

· Assist in delivering sessions on:

o Menstrual hygiene .

School Health Programs

· Organize interactive sessions in schools on:

o Hygiene practices for children

o Importance of cleanliness and health

· Conduct activities such as:

o Games and quizzes

o Awareness discussions

o Health-focused storytelling

Women’s Health & Menstrual Hygiene Awareness

· Support workshops on:

o Menstrual hygiene management

o Breaking myths and stigma

o Importance of hygiene and health for women

· Assist in distributing educational materials

Research & Data Collection

· Conduct basic surveys and collect community feedback

· Observe and document hygiene practices and health awareness levels

· Assist in preparing reports and case studies

Campaign Design & Creative Outreach

· Help design:

o Awareness posters

o Educational materials

o Social media campaigns

· Participate in community awareness drives and local events

Community Interaction & Behaviour Change Communication

· Engage in conversations with community members

About the Role

We are seeking enthusiastic and committed volunteers to join our team as a Charity Support Officers. This is a flexible position where you can tailor your contribution by choosing the area that best suits your skills and interests:

• Events Support – Help plan, coordinate, and deliver charity events, including fundraising initiatives and community engagement activities.
• Policy Review – Support the review, updating, and development of internal policies to ensure compliance and best practice in governance.
• Performance Management – Contribute to monitoring and evaluating our projects, analysing outcomes, and identifying areas for improvement.
• Social Media Strategy – Assist in shaping and delivering our online presence, developing engaging content, and growing digital reach.

Key Responsibilities
Depending on your chosen specialism, you may:

• Assist in planning and delivering successful events.
• Review and update organisational policies in line with legal and sector standards.

We need volunteers in this role to help gather as much data as possible as part of our Wild Magic project, so we can see the way that new management techniques will impact upon wildlife, and how it contributes to The Owen Smith Charitable Trust; monitoring the changes in the numbers and types of species found at Wild Magic, and the changes in habitat provision.

We are aiming to undertake surveys and monitoring relating to birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates, and plant species. By volunteering you will be helping us to gain a better understanding of the species and habitats within the project area, and how the species, their populations and the habitat changes in relation to the management practices.

What this role entails

• Help conduct wildlife and plant surveys
• Assist with ongoing monitoring
• Adhere to safety and regulations guidelines

Qualifications, experience and skills needed

• Interest in environmental conservation and biodiversity
• Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions
• Basic knowledge of native plants and wildlife preferred
• Ability to work well in a team
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Patience, attention to detail, and willingness to see a survey through

About EduSpots

EduSpots was created to show that communities themselves can design, lead and sustain transformative learning. By unlocking the knowledge and creativity already present in communities, the model turns education into a shared civic responsibility rooted in local ownership and collective action.

In 2015, the first Spot was created by the Addae family in Abofour, Ashanti Region of Ghana, in response to a locked privately owned library in a neighbouring community, built on principles of community ownership, local leadership and purposeful collaboration.

Since that point, over 700 local leaders named Catalysts, including students, teachers and community members, have come together to create 50 community-owned learning hubs known as ‘Spots’ – a concept drawn from the Ghanaian idea of a drinking space. Each Spot is unique, shaped by the identity and aspirations of its community, but all are part of a connected online network advancing inclusive, future-ready education through WhatsApp for Learning and the EduSpots App.

Through the Spots, thousands of learners, or Sparks, take part in playful, community-rooted clubs ’ –across early years education, digital skills, STEM, climate action and gender equity themes ’ – that spark curiosity, collaboration and civic action. Many Sparks grow into Catalysts themselves, with one in four new Spots now founded by those who first joined as Catalysts.  From this cycle of change, a movement is emerging across rural Ghana and beyond.

EduSpots has grown through a participatory model in which every Catalyst has a voice in shaping the network’s future. Their ideas and experiences feed into programme design and wider decision-making, with over half of our staff team drawn directly from Catalyst pathways.

1. Role Overview: Global Citizenship Education Intern (any global location)

As an EduCitizens Intern, you will:

• Research Citizenship Education articles, ideas and resources to share on our WhatsApp hub.
• Interview members of the group, writing articles about their work, and wider citizenship education.
• Organising Zoom sessions, ensuring strong attendance from the group.
• Coming up with creative suggestions for building a committed community of citizenship educators.

Reporting to: EduCitizens Coordinator

Personal specification

• A genuine interest in global citizenship education, and community-led education
• Strong communication skills – e.g. written and verbal in English
• Strong IT skills – e.g. ability to use Microsoft Office, Google Drive, social media, etc.

2. Role Overview: Schools Fundraising Intern 

As Schools Fundraising Intern, you will:

• Research schools and universities in the UK, Ghana and globally that may be interested in leading the 'Play for the Planet' campaign.
• Send marketing emails and wider approaches, carefully tailored to the specific school and role.
• Support students across the world devising their Play for the Planet campaigns.
• Input your ideas into the development of our wider fundraising strategy, particularly relating to schools.
• Support the Big Give campaign, with a focus on environmental leadership and education.
• Gain experience of working within an ambitious team to deliver organsiation-wide income generation outcomes.

Reporting to: Educational Partnerships Manager

• A self-starter, with the ability to make direct approaches with confidence and clarity

3. Role Overview: Online Courses (Global) 

As Online Courses Intern, you will:

• Research schools, universities, NGOs and businesses in the UK, Ghana and globally that may be interested in joining our 6 week online course in Communications, Agency and Power.
• Send marketing emails and wider approaches, carefully tailored to the specific organisation.
• Support the monitoring of discussion boards, in line with safeguarding procedures.
• Supporting administration relating to the online course, such as certification and grading.
• Input your ideas into the development of our wider fundraising and income generation strategy.
• Support the Big Give campaign, with a focus on environmental leadership and education.
• Gain experience of working within an ambitious team to deliver organsiation-wide income generation outcomes.

The difference you will make to cats and people

As a charity we are able to help thousands of cats each year thanks to the generous donations we receive from members of the public. Our fundraising events organisers have the exciting and varied role of helping plan and deliver local fundraising events to raise the vital funds needed to help cats. Our fundraising events organisers use their passion for cats and people to plan cake sales, barn dances, quiz nights and everything in between.

Time expectation

Our fundraising events organisers usually spend two to three hours per week in this role, which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer.
