Job Description

Kent Sexual Assault & Abuse Service is dedicated to providing safe spaces where survivors of all forms of sexual violence across Kent and Medway, can access the high-quality, trauma-informed, specialist practical and therapeutic support that they need to recover from the impact of sexual violence and rebuild their lives. Having won and mobilised the Police & Crime Commissioner Kent Wide Independent Sexual Violence Advisor (ISVA)and Trauma Therapy contracts in April 2026, we are keen to extend our trustee board to ensure high quality, robust governance for our charity and support for the KSAAS team during this time of expansion.  We are seeking a Chair of Trustees to take over the leadership of the board when our current chair steps down in October.

KSAAS Chair of Trustees Responsibilities:

Leading the trustee board in providing robust, transparent and courageous governance for the charity, including ensuring the charity is fulfilling its mission, aims and values, setting the culture, strategic direction and strategic plan for the charity, approving the annual operations (business) plan, budget and safeguarding & risk management plans & monitoring these to ensure delivery, ensuring compliance to the ethical, legal, financial and safeguarding responsibilities of charities and trustees and ensuring compliance with contractual agreements and ensuring the charity holds itself accountable to its stakeholders and partners

Providing effective oversight of the Trustee Board through appropriate recruitment, screening, induction, training and support of trustees, ensuring trustee awareness and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, ensure that the trustee board annually reviews its structure, effectiveness, delegations and key policies, and implements agreed changes as necessary.

Ensuring effective strategic and operational leadership of the charity by working with the Board to approve a scheme of delegation and appraisal of the CEO, supporting, positively challenging and holding the CEO to account through line management processes, liaising with the CEO to arrange meetings and chairing Board meetings to ensure these are well run and focussed on delivering the charity's work, provision of appropriate training, support and wellbeing opportunities for staff & volunteers.

Act as a representative and spokesperson for the charity in collaboration with the management team and other trustees.

Knowledge and Skills

Essential: Leadership & management experience and experience of working in a charity or having a trustee or a similar role is essential.  Experience of one or more of the following is also essential: charity or business management, charity law or criminal law, ISVA work, counselling or therapy, data protection and management, equity and inclusion, financial management, fundraising or commissioning, governance, human resources, information technology, health and safety, marketing and communications, monitoring and evaluation, research and evaluation, strategic planning, sexual violence or VAWG work.

Commitment

The time commitment of a KSAAS trustee is estimated at 12 hours per month, comprising:

• Supervision and support for the Chief Executive Officer
• Six 2 hour board meetings per year (normally online in the evening, but some in person in Canterbury with prior arrangement)
• Annual general meeting (AGM) preparation & Attendance
• Time to read and reflect on reports and papers for meetings
• Attending an annual trustee away day and occasional training sessions
• Attending subcommittees when required

Hart Plain Junior School is looking for enthusiastic and committed volunteers to join our governing board.  You do not need to work in education or have previous governance experience.  We are interested in people who care about children’s education, can consider issues thoughtfully and are willing to ask constructive questions.

School governors play an important strategic role.  Working as a team, our governors help ensure that the school has a clear direction, provides the best possible education for every pupil and uses its resources effectively.

What will you do?

As a governor, you will help the governing board to:

• Support and constructively challenge school leaders
• Monitor pupils’ educational performance and wellbeing
• Help ensure that all pupils, including those with special educational needs and disabilities, can access a high-quality education

You do not need to be a parent or an education specialist.  We welcome people from different professional and personal backgrounds who can bring new ideas, experiences and perspectives to the board.

Experience in areas such as finance, HR, leadership, data, risk management, law, marketing, communications, community engagement or education would be valuable, but it is not essential.  Your judgement, commitment and willingness to learn are just as important.

Job Purpose

The HR Manager plays a vital role in supporting the vision and mission of Children With Voices by ensuring that all HR practices are fair, compliant, and aligned with safeguarding, equity, and community wellbeing. This role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of human resources, from recruitment and staff development to compliance and wellbeing initiatives. The HR Manager will be instrumental in creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where staff, volunteers, and young people can thrive.

Key Responsibilities

• Leading our HR function and setting the standard for how we recruit, support and look after everyone here
• Leading our HR Support and Administration volunteers, giving them direction and helping them develop
• Making sure our policies and practices hold up against UK employment law and safeguarding requirements
• Advising managers on people matters, and telling us plainly when something needs paid professional or legal advice
• Building fair, inclusive and safe recruitment and onboarding across staff and volunteers
• Overseeing HR and volunteer records so they are accurate, secure and compliant with data protection
• Helping us build honest processes for supervision, wellbeing and handling concerns

Person Specification

Essential Skills & Experience:

• Proven experience in an HR management role, ideally within the charity or community sector.
• Strong knowledge of UK employment law, HR compliance, and safeguarding requirements.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust at all levels.
• Experience managing recruitment, onboarding, and training processes.
• Ability to mediate and resolve conflicts in a fair, professional, and sensitive manner.
• Strong organisational skills with attention to detail and confidentiality.
• Commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and community empowerment.

Desirable Skills & Experience:

Senior HR experience and current knowledge of UK employment law. Real experience of leading a team, because you will have volunteers looking to you. The judgement to know what you can decide and what needs escalating. Absolute discretion, as you will handle confidential information. Charity experience is welcome but not essential.

• CIPD qualification (Level 5 or above) or equivalent HR certification.
• Experience working with volunteers, young people, or community-focused organisations.
• Knowledge of charity governance and regulatory frameworks.
• Experience in developing wellbeing or mental health initiatives.

As Treasurer Trustee, you will play an important role in helping the Board oversee the charity’s financial affairs, ensuring strong financial governance and supporting informed decision-making. Time commitment
This is a voluntary role. The Treasurer Trustee will be expected to attend quarterly Board and
finance committee meetings and review papers in advance, with additional time required to
support the CEO in financial planning, Board and annual reporting activities.

We're seeking a trustee with experience in arts, culture, philanthropy or charity governance to complete the board of a new international arts charity supporting emerging artists. As a trustee you'll play an essential role in shaping the early direction of ellipse art projects UK and helping us open new opportunities for emerging artists from Southeast Asia, Africa, in the UK.

This year, we're launching our UK charity alongside our existing French endowment fund, submitting our registration to the Charity Commission, and preparing our first major partnership with a cultural non profit organisation in London. The board will lead these foundational decisions. For this reason, we're looking for a trustee with experience in UK charity governance, ideally in the arts or culture sector. If you have set up or grown a UK charity before, even better.

Our board is intentionally small: three to four trustees, meeting two to three times per year (in person or online).
