Do you want to be inspired by the impact of education? Schools across Bracknell Forest are looking for skilled volunteers to support education by becoming school governors.
What will you be doing?
Governing bodies are responsible for the strategic management of a school and will make decisions about a wide range of issues
The core responsibilities involved are:
- Ensuring accountability
- Providing support and challenge to the schools senior leadership team
- Monitoring and evaluating the school’s progress
- Budgetary allocation and control
- Shaping plans for school improvement and overseeing their implementation
- Setting the school’s aims and values
- Appointing senior members of staff including the Head Teacher
The governing body is usually split in to a small number of committees, each responsible for one area such as finance or pupil achievement. These committees will meet separately from the main governing body to discuss relevant issues in more detail. Discussion is then fed back at a full governing body meeting.
A school governing body is made up of representatives from the school, the parents, the local authority and the local community.
What are we looking for?
You don’t need any specific skills or experience to be a school governor. You must be over 18, but you don’t need to be a parent or have experience working in education. Often, it’s the outside perspective you can bring that a school needs.
Professional experience in areas such as HR, finance, law, or project management are all useful to a school. But soft skills such as leadership, communication, and problem solving are also great additions.
What difference will you make?
Governors make decisions that affect schools for years to come. Our recent impact survey found that our volunteers bring £9.9 million worth of value to schools each year, and 9/10 volunteers would recommend being a governor to a friend.

Role Purpose
Senior Policy Advisors provide leadership, analytical expertise, and strategic oversight within Youth Advantage UK’s policy function. Whether placed in Policy Planning or Impact Development, you will help shape the direction of our national and local policy projects, ensure high‑quality decision‑making, and support volunteers to produce work capable of achieving real impact for young people.

Key Responsibilities
1. Leadership & Supervision

Delegate tasks to Officers/Researchers/Advisors based on project needs and volunteer strengths.

Review and assess project ideas identified through horizon scanning or other approved channels.

Apply the organisation’s project assessment checklist to determine whether proposals should progress to initial research or local project development.

Work with other departments to plan early‑stage projects and ensure effective collaboration.

If in Impact Development

Review findings from initial research or early‑stage projects to determine next steps.

Provide guidance to relevant teams on strengthening impact, refining recommendations, or redirecting work where necessary.

Ensure that all progressing work remains capable of achieving real, measurable impact.
3. Strategic Input & Decision Support

Support the manager in planning, prioritisation, and decision‑making.

Identify risks, opportunities, and resource considerations within ongoing projects.

Contribute to the development of internal processes, frameworks, and best‑practice guidance.

Role Requirements
Essential

At least 2 years of progressive professional exposure to government policy, public administration, or related policy environments.

Academic or research background with the ability to understand organisational resourcing, capacity constraints, and feasibility considerations.

Experience reviewing decisions and exercising sound judgment, particularly in assessing project viability, strategic alignment, and potential impact.

Strong analytical and critical‑thinking skills.

The Role
We are seeking two Trustees with strong financial management experience to join our Board and serve on our Finance Sub-Committee.
Commitment:

4–5 trustee meetings per year (2 in person, 2–3 online)

Key Responsibilities:

Provide financial oversight and governance to ensure ICC UK’s sustainability, compliance and financial stability.

Protecting and managing the property of the charity and ensuring the charity’s funds are invested properly.

Contribute to strategic decision-making and risk management

Support the Finance Sub-Committee in managing investments, reviewing budgets, reserves, financial reports, and policies

About SUNSHINE
SUNSHINE is a small but ambitious grassroots charity on a mission to reduce loneliness and help people feel truly seen, valued and connected. Every week, our volunteers bring warmth, joy and human connection to people who feel isolated, overlooked or alone.
To support this work, we need strong, safe, reliable digital systems — and that’s where you come in. As our Digital & IT Lead, you’ll help build, configure and maintain the tools that keep SUNSHINE running smoothly: our cloud‑based case management system, CRM, Google Workspace, devices, and the digital infrastructure that supports our volunteers and protects the people we serve.
Your work will never be “just tech”. It will be the foundation that allows SUNSHINE to grow, expand and reach more people who need us.
What You’ll Be Doing
1. Building SUNSHINE’s Digital Infrastructure

Set up, configure and maintain our cloud‑based case management system.

Build and manage our CRM to support volunteers, participants and partnerships.

2. Managing Google Workspace & Core Systems

3. Device Configuration & Security

Configure laptops, tablets and other devices for SUNSHINE‑only use.

Practical Details

The Role
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Board of Trustees of Rethink Mental Illness as Chair of the Audit and Assurance Committee. This role operates alongside, and does not replace, the broader responsibilities and duties of charity trusteeship.
Responsibilities of the Audit & Assurance Committee Chair
Leadership and Direction
The Chair will:

Chair all meetings of the Audit and Assurance Committee and provide effective leadership and direction.

Maintain a clear understanding of the committee’s duties and responsibilities.

Commit the necessary time and bring strong business, financial, communication and leadership skills.

Demonstrate excellent working knowledge of corporate governance, accounting practices, internal control functions and risk management frameworks.

Champion open and constructive discussion, while maintaining appropriate discipline and ensuring meetings are effective and complete their agendas.

Be prepared to ask challenging and, where necessary, difficult questions with tenacity.

Ensure committee members understand their responsibilities and feel able to raise matters of concern.

Develop and maintain effective working relationships with the Chair of Trustees, Vice-Chairs, Treasurer, Chief Executive and executive team, External Audit Partner and Internal Audit Lead.

Plan the work of the committee in conjunction with the executive team, agreeing a rolling forward plan and agendas in advance of meetings.

Review the effectiveness of each meeting, seeking feedback from members and attendees.
Governance
The Chair will:

Ensure the committee maintains its independence and avoids assuming responsibilities beyond its remit.

Act as the Charity’s Whistleblowing Champion, ensuring regular review of the effectiveness and operation of the Whistleblowing Policy.

Lead oversight of external and internal audit arrangements, including appointment and performance review.

Ensure the committee holds at least annual private sessions with the CFO, External Audit Partner, Internal Audit Lead and the Treasurer (ex-officio member).

Promote and participate in regular formal self-assessment of the committee against appropriate professional standards.

Ensure that the committee’s work and key issues are clearly communicated to the Board.
Development of the Committee
The Chair will:

Work with the Honorary Officers Committee to ensure an appropriate balance of skills and experience within committee membership.

Meet at least annually with each committee member to review engagement, gather feedback, address performance issues and identify development needs.

Foster the right culture within the committee, encouraging constructive challenge and positive questioning.

Ensure appropriate induction and training support is provided for both new and existing committee members.
The Person
Rethink Mental Illness is seeking individuals who can confidently balance strong commercial awareness and financial sustainability with a deep commitment to the charity’s purpose and values, bringing a thoughtful perspective that looks beyond profit alone.
The successful candidate will demonstrate:

A good understanding of the mental health sector and the wider challenges facing charities supporting people with severe mental illness.

Strong financial literacy, with qualified accountant status desirable, and experience overseeing financial reporting, risk management, internal controls and audit.

Job Description
We are looking for a Volunteer Digital Marketing Director to help lead and coordinate our digital outreach and growth strategy.
You will help develop and manage the organisation’s digital marketing activities, ensuring campaigns, content and communication channels work together to raise awareness and engage supporters.
This role involves working closely with the Founder and Digital Marketing team to guide digital campaigns, support online engagement and help build systems that allow the organisation to grow.

Key Responsibilities

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a voluntary Non-Executive Director to join the board of our subsidiary company Kent Wildlife Enterprises.
Established in 1996 Kent Wildlife Enterprises (KWE) receives and manages our core ‘non primary purpose’ trading income. This includes income generated through retail, our extensive events programme, and our Visitor Centre activities. KWE also receives the funds generated from our reserves through Nature-based Solutions (NbS) activities, including the sales of Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) and carbon units.
In 2026 KWE anticipates realising the benefits of an enhanced visitor experience at our Sevenoaks Visitor Centre following its refurbishment over the last year, as well as a refreshed online retail offering following the launch of our new KWT website.
At a time when the nature and climate crises is becoming all too real, it is critical for the Trust to maximise income opportunities to support its work. KWE donates all its year-end profits to the parent charity to this aim. As a Non-Executive Director, you will join the board to provide independent oversight, strategic guidance and values-based leadership to the company, helping to ensure strong financial health, business growth and effective risk management. You will work with fellow directors and the Trust’s senior leadership team to promote the success of the company, ensure compliance with legal, ethical and regulatory obligations and uphold the highest standards of environmental practice.
We are particularly interested in applicants with experience in areas such as:
• SME business growth
• Visitor centres, destination venues, events and experiences
• Environmental or heritage retail enterprises including e-commerce
• Eco-tourism
• Company finance, tax and accounting
• Experience working with or within charities, social enterprises or trading subsidiaries
Prior experience in a senior leadership role is highly desirable.
The role is unpaid and voluntary, requiring attendance at a minimum of four board meetings per year, primarily online with occasional in-person meetings.

What’s involved?
There are governor vacancies across England and Wales. Some schools are also looking for remote governors who don't need to live near the school they support.
Governors volunteer at board level to set the strategic vision for their school. This involves constructively challenging current processes, using your unique skills to support senior leaders, and overseeing school finances. You’ll be involved in areas such as monitoring, budget management, and data analysis. As well as putting your expertise to good use, you’ll have the opportunity to develop your professional skills. Ultimately, you’ll work towards facilitating the delivery of a broad and exciting curriculum and oversee wellbeing and inclusion initiatives. Governance represents a fantastic opportunity to develop yourself while making a real impact on the education of children and young people.
Governors work collaboratively with the headteacher and other members of the board, including parents and school staff. In most schools, full board meetings are held termly, as are committee meetings. Many governors will sit on a committee linked to their expertise or interests, such as teaching and learning or finance and resources. In addition to attending meetings, governors will need to read the papers in advance, complete training courses, and occasionally visit their school.
Governors usually support schools for a period of four years and with an estimated time commitment of 7 hours per month. During these hours, you will attend meetings, read papers, attend training sessions, and make occasional visits to school.
Who can be a governor?
The most important part of being a governor is the ability to ask questions, provide support and have the best interests of the school at heart. You don't have to be a parent or have experience in education to become a governor. Schools seek a wide range of skills to support the board, including finance, HR, and data analysis.
Boards also need governors with a diversity of backgrounds and lived experiences to ensure a range of perspectives are considered during board meetings.
Schools welcome professional experience, as well as community insight and experience of working collaboratively.
You need to be aged 18 or above and there are certain criminal convictions that would exclude you from the role. A Disclosure and Barring Service check will be carried out by the school.
