Title: Treasurer of the Board of Trustees
Salary: Unpaid & Voluntary (Reasonable expenses related to the role will be reimbursed in accordance with the charity's expenses policy).
Time commitment: Approx. 1.5 – 2 days per month.
Terms of Office: Three years with possibility to extend by another three years. Applicants must be eligible to serve as Trustees of a UK-based Charity.

Unlimit Health is an international organisation working to end parasitic disease. We work closely with affected countries, sharing evidence and expertise to eliminate preventable infections. Our purpose is to support people to live healthy lives, free from limiting disease.

We were founded in 2002 with a £20m grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and started life as a research group, the Schistosomiasis Control Initiative, within Imperial College London. Consistently ranked globally as one of the most cost-effective nonprofit initiatives, we have received significant funding since our inception including from the UK Department of International Development (DFID), USAID and philanthropic investors.

What we do

Our work includes:

• Evidence-based disease elimination support
• Cross-sectoral health systems strengthening
• Building collaborative partnerships

Our main area of focus is the elimination of schistosomiasis and soil-transmitted helminthiases (intestinal worms). Endemic infections of these parasitic worms are found in some of the world’s most marginalised communities, and they can have a hugely detrimental effect on individuals, including:

• Reduced productivity
• Internal organ damage
• Impaired child development
• Reduced school attendance
• Increased risk of HIV in women
• Infertility

The Role

Unlimit Health is looking for a Treasurer of the Board of Trustees to be responsible for: leadership and governance, strategic planning and implementation, sustainability, compliance & financial oversight and advocacy, stakeholder engagement and fundraising.

This role requires a candidate with demonstratable experience in senior financial leadership, ideally as a trustee, CFO, or finance director within a charity, international development organisation, or public health institution. It is key that the successful candidate has a strong understanding of UK charity finance, governance and regulatory frameworks, as well as internationally.

Applicants must be eligible to serve as trustees of a UK-based charity (see Charity Commission).

Time commitment

Board meetings are held four times a year during the working day. We welcome applications from people based outside the UK who can join meetings online but require that all trustees would be able to attend at least one ‘in person’ meeting in London each year. Unlimit Health is committed to creating a diverse board and will work to facilitate specific needs of individuals if required. The time commitment is approx. 1.5 – 2 days per month.

BCT is governed by a Board of Trustees (BoT), which comprises a maximum of fourteen Trustees. Included in this number are four officers (Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary and Treasurer). Trustees have a collective responsibility. This means that Trustees always act as a group and not as individuals. The BoT meets four times a year, currently one in-person meeting and three video conference meetings.

We always consider individual Trustee circumstances and needs, and are happy to make any reasonable adjustments. We strive to be as flexible as possible to ensure our meeting arrangements are inclusive and suitable for all. Currently, fifty two percent of BCT staff consider themselves to have a disability and so we have experience of accommodating different requirements. 

Our Trustees play a vital role in making sure that BCT achieves its core purpose. They oversee the wider management and administration of the charity. They also ensure that BCT has a clear strategy and that our work and goals are in line with our vision. Just as importantly, they support and challenge the Senior Management Team to enable BCT to grow and thrive, and through this, achieve our mission to work collaboratively and with a diversity of people to achieve resilient populations of bats and improve their habitats in an ever-changing world. Being a Trustee can be rewarding for many reasons – from knowing that you are making a difference to the charity’s cause, to gaining knowledge and building relationships. Trustees do not need any prior knowledge about bat conservation but must become a member of BCT if they are not already.

Trustees are elected at BCT’s Annual General Meeting and serve for an initial term of three years, with the option to stand for a further two three-year terms if they wish to. 

The BoT may co-opt members onto the Board should a vacancy arise, but only until the next AGM when they must seek election.

BCT’s Chief Executive attends BoT meetings, as can other relevant staff, other specialists and observers.

Trustees will receive an induction on joining BCT where they will have the opportunity to talk to different members of staff and fellow Trustees. 

The role of Trustee is not a paid role, although travel and subsistence to attend board meetings will be covered.

Potential Trustees need to be eligible to stand as a Trustee in accordance with Charity Commission rules.

Medact organises the health community to work towards a world in which everyone is able to live healthy, dignified lives, supported by political and economic systems that centre health justice. About the role

Our Board of Trustees provides guidance, governance and final sign-off on major decisions on behalf of our membership. Trustees are collectively responsible for the governance of the organisation in line with the requirements of the Charity Commission. Trustees also contribute to the development of Medact's strategy and participate in a range of other activities to support the Director and staff with our work.

There are four planned board meetings per year, which are hybrid, and it is expected that each Trustee will attend most Board meetings. Trustees are also sometimes asked to give their views or sign off on issues between Board meetings if an issue cannot wait. It is hoped that each Trustee will have the capacity to use their unique skills to support the team more broadly with Medact’s work.

As Chair, you will support the Executive Director and staff to help build on our achievements and realise Medact’s vision. You will work with fellow Trustees to make up a strong and effective Board governing the Charity. 

Acting as a Trustee is a voluntary role but reasonable travel expenses can be paid. 

Who we are looking for

Our current Board brings a broad range of skills, but we recognise that we do not yet reflect the diversity of the health community. There are also specific types of experience and expertise we would like more of on the Board. In particular, we are looking for potential Trustees with one or more of the following attributes:

• Lived experience of an issue that Medact campaigns on, for instance the Hostile Environment, the health impacts of economic or housing injustice, the health impacts of armed conflict or UK security policies

• Experience as a frontline health worker of any sort, preferably current

• Legal and safeguarding expertise

• Fundraising expertise, particularly individual giving or major donor fundraising

• Human resources expertise

As Chair, you will be actively networked within the health community or broader social justice movement and highly experienced in governance or strategic leadership of a charity or NGO. You will have the skills to line-manage the Executive Director. And you will have the ability to advocate on behalf of Medact’s work, as well as helping to build the membership and public image of the organisation. 

We hope all Trustees will: 

• Share our vision for a fairer and safer world, and our analysis of the transformational change needed to get closer to it

• Approach Board discussions and conversations with the team with an open mind, able to listen to and genuinely engage with others’ views

• Display collaborative behaviours which promote harmony and good team working which supports Medact to be an effective, well-governed organisation

Previous experience on a charity board or in another governance role is useful but by no means essential. British Exploring Society is looking for two additional Trustees to join our Council (Board).

Trustee: Operations and Expeditions – A trustee with previous experience of leading British Exploring Society expeditions. Experience of taking young people on multiple remote and challenging expeditions. Previous Trustee experience of an outdoor and/or youth development charity is essential.

Trustee: Legal – A trustee who is a qualified lawyer ideally operating at a Partner level or senior executive level with a corporate environment with a passion for the outdoors and youth work. Previous trustee experience is helpful but not essential.

Our trustees play a vital role at British Exploring Society. They have independent control over, and legal responsibility for, our management and administration. Since 1932 we have always relied on the time individuals donate to us, and our trustees are a cornerstone of that culture of professional volunteering. We want our trustees to enjoy the time they give to us, and to feel motivated and uplifted by the work we do. We do everything we can to involve our trustees in the life of the organisation, to visit and get involved in our activities and to feel the positive impact of their contributions.

Our trustees ensure that we comply with the law, with our Articles, and that we continuously strive to fulfil our charitable purpose. Planning

• Approve our mission statement and review the team’s performance in achieving it

• Recruit, appraise, advise, support and if necessary change the CEO of the charity

Operations

• Review results achieved by our team in relation to aims and objectives, annual and long range goals
• Be certain that the financial structure of the charity is adequate for its current needs and strategy

• Approve major actions of the charity, such as expenditure on items over authorised limits and major shift in activity.

Audit

• Ensure accountability within the charity, particularly where trustees delegate responsibility for particular tasks or decisions to staff or volunteers

Why Should You Become a Trustee?

Being a Trustee is a valuable and rewarding experience. You’ll get to make a lasting difference to the lives of our students, and influence how the Union is run. You will use your skills, knowledge, and experience to support the Board in reaching sound decisions. You will be involved in leading discussions, making collective decisions, and identifying key issues. You’ll have the opportunity to mentor and support our President and Student Trustees. As a Lay Trustee, you are eligible to become Deputy Chair of the Board, or Chair of one of the sub-committees. This is dependent on vacancies for these roles.

You will receive comprehensive induction training, and further training relevant to your role as a Chair or member of a sub-committee.

Job Description

We’re looking for someone to work collectively with our Board of Trustees to provide support and strategic direction to our Students’ Union.

Remuneration: Lay Trustees are voluntary, unpaid roles. However, all reasonable out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed, such as travel costs to board meetings.

Hours: Hours can vary however typically each year:

· Four Board of Trustees meetings – each meeting is around three hours long conducted online.

· Additional four (eight for Finance) sub-committees meetings conducted online – each meeting is around 1 hour.

· There are usually one or two in-person events per year including a Board of Trustees meeting – each event is usually a day and/or an evening event. These are delivered in Cornwall (expenses paid).

Location: Homebased with one or two in-person events in Cornwall per year.

Role Purpose:

The Trustees are ultimately responsible, individually and collectively, for all activity within the SU. The Board is legally responsible for our staff, finances, risk management and reputation. The Board is responsible for setting the vision and values of the organisation and for ensuring the delivery of organisational purpose. The Trustees ensure development of and agree a long-term strategy, approving and monitoring delivery plans.

As a charity we can help thousands of cats each year thanks to the generous donations from our supporters. Raising funds is a key role in our charity, helping to raise the vital funds needed to help more cats and kittens in need.

As a fundraising volunteer, we will support you every step of the way to ensure your time at Cats Protection is a positive and rewarding one. Whatever time you can give really does make a big difference We have lots of exciting activities to choose from for example attending a fundraising event, fundraising online, promoting fundraising activities on social media, handling administrative tasks, or contributing to the development of new fundraising ideas. Whatever your skill set, this role could be perfect for you! 

What can I expect to be doing? 

As a flexible role, you have the choice to be involved in the following: 

• Face-to-face fundraising – organising or helping with our fundraising events, attending supermarket collections or local markets. 

• Distributing collection tins – popping collection tins into local shops and pubs and collecting them when they’re full. 

• Bringing new ideas! - We always love to come up with new ideas to raise funds for cats and we’d love to help bring yours to life.

Our Collection Box Volunteers help us raise vital funds by collecting and distributing collection boxes in their local area. Making a difference can mean as little as raising 20p, which is enough to feed one cat in our care for a day, to £150 which is the average cost of a cat in our care.

What can I expect to be doing?

As a flexible role, you have the choice to be involved in the following:

• Researching local shops, pubs and businesses to place Collection Boxes
• Delivering Collection Boxes to locations
• Recording donations and thanking local businesses and supporters

The Opportunity

What we need from you

This is a highly flexible role, and you can choose how you’d like to get involved. Opportunities include:

• Face-to-face fundraising – organising or helping at fundraising events, running supermarket collections and fundraising stands, and monitoring collection tins
• Online fundraising – setting up online appeals and writing engaging cat case studies to maximise donations
• Marketing and promotion – spreading the word about fundraising activities via social media and local press
• Administration – processing donations, sorting and recording donated goods, and completing Gift Aid paperwork
• Championing our work – helping to develop new fundraising ideas and increasing community engagement
• Photography – capturing images of cats in care, cats we’re helping, fundraising events, and all things Cats Protection

Time commitment

This role is flexible and designed to fit around your other commitments. You’ll be part of a friendly team raising vital funds — and having fun along the way.

London’s Air Ambulance provides London with a unique team of expert doctors, paramedics and pilots who are dedicated to bringing world-class medical care to the scene when a life is on the line. 

When someone suffers a life-threatening injury, only our team can provide them with the help they need, performing innovative procedures like open chest surgery and blood transfusions at the roadside, saving lives where others can’t. 

We can get there in time to make a difference thanks to our fleet of helicopters and rapid response cars. But we’re a charity, with 95 per cent of our funding reliant on donations. 

Only with the support of London can we continue to provide hope for the patient, today, tomorrow, always.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

To take up the critical role of trustee, individuals will be engaged and motivated in the vision, mission and values of London’s Air Ambulance Charity. Commitment, engagement and reliability are key to fulfilling your responsibility as a trustee.

We’re particularly interested to hear from candidates with skills in at least one of the following three areas:

• Trauma network.
• UK fundraising, marketing and communications.
• Charity leadership.

Experience, attributes and skills:

• Ability to build and sustain positive relationships with key stakeholders and colleagues to achieve organisational objectives.
• An ability to contribute to strategic discussions in a collegiate yet robust manner
• A curious mindset with the ability to challenge constructively.
• A strong social and data impact focus.
• Understanding and awareness of risk management in a governance context.
• Financial acumen and/or business understanding.
• Ability to operate at both strategic and detailed levels, to navigate complexity and to make strategic financial and business decisions.
• A wholehearted commitment to the values, vision and mission of London’s Air Ambulance Charity.
• A collaborative approach to problem solving and to management.
• Understanding of and investment in the role and responsibilities of a trustee.
