About BABCP: The British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) is a charity and the lead organisation for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) in the UK and Ireland. We are a membership body with around 27,000 members and as a professional organisation we promote, improve and uphold standards of CBT practice, supervision and training. Our CBT Register is accredited by the Professional Standards Authority. We were founded over fifty years ago, and have experienced significant growth in recent years, moving from a highly regarded special interest group to a professional association. We recognise the importance of high-quality mental healthcare that is evidence-based, and we help to protect the public by supporting best practice. We value diversity, integrity and professionalism – you can read more about our strategy and values here. BABCP is a registered charity and a limited company in law. We have a staff team of around sixty people and annual income in excess of £3m.
What we are looking for?: We are looking for one new lay person to join our Board as ‘Lay Trustee Director’, meaning you will be both a trustee of the charity and a director of the company. Our Board is made up of ten Trustee Directors who are elected from within BABCP’s membership and up to three Lay Trustee Directors. We are looking for a Lay Trustee Director with a proven track record of excellence in their field, who can bring fresh perspectives and experience from other professional sectors and walks of life.
You should:
· Be able to take important decisions using sound, objective reasoning and with good attention to detail.
· Be willing to ask questions and constructively challenge the status quo.
· Be able to think creatively and strategically, while being committed to operating with integrity.
· Have the capacity to devote time and effort to the role.
· Understand the responsibilities of the position.
· Not be barred from acting as charity trustee or company director (further eligibility declarations and checks will be required if appointed).
We particularly welcome applicants with skills and expertise in IT and/or Human Resources.
We recognise that skills and experience come in many forms, and that some groups have traditionally faced barriers in accessing formal opportunities. BABCP welcomes applications from those who possess the relevant attributes and experience drawn from all aspects of their lives and those who may have had a less traditional career pathway.
While we are looking to bring fresh ‘lay’ perspectives to our Board, if you are one of the millions of people who have direct or indirect lived experience of CBT and related therapies, you may find this experience helps to bring the value of this role to life.
What will you be doing?: As a Trustee Director you will, as part of the wider Board, oversee the organisational structures, systems, policies and resources in place to achieve the charitable objects of the Association. You will help ensure that BABCP exclusively pursues its stated purpose against a defined strategy and in compliance with its governing document and relevant legislation and regulation. You will attend our Board meetings, reviewing all Board papers in advance. You may also be asked to participate in additional committees or working groups focused on specific themes areas, taking into account your areas of expertise and interest where possible.
The role is voluntary and unpaid, though travel and approved out-of-pocket expenses will be covered.
How you will you make a difference?: There are very few in the UK and Ireland who are not affected by the consequences of mental health difficulties. By volunteering your expertise and experience with BABCP, you will ultimately be helping to improve the mental wellbeing of those nations and to protect the public who are directly or indirectly impacted by mental health issues.

Over the past decade, The Daily Mile Foundation (TDMF) has grown into one of the most successful school-based physical activity initiatives for children globally, helping millions of young people experience the transformational benefits of moving more every day. The programme is now delivered in thousands of schools, supported by teachers, local authorities, health partners and national bodies. With the London Marathon Foundation’s long-standing experience in grant making and community impact and TDMF’s proven model for inspiring activity in schools – this new structure creates a unique opportunity to accelerate change. Join the Board of SOS Children’s Villages UK – Finance Trustee
Location: remote with occasional in-person commitments
Time commitment: 8-10 days per annum (quarterly board meetings)
Remuneration: voluntary
SOS Children’s Villages UK is seeking passionate, strategic and collaborative individuals to join its Board of Trustees at one of the most important moments in the Charity’s history. In December 2025, the Board made the pivotal decision for the Charity to leave the SOS Children’s Villages Federation after more than 50 years. In autumn 2026, the organisation will re-launch under a new name and logo, while continuing to work with many existing partners and building new ways to increase its impact.
The Charity’s core belief remains unchanged: all children have the right to feel loved, safe and supported. It focuses on children and young people without parental care, or at risk of losing it, through family strengthening, quality alternative care, youth employability and education, emergency support, advocacy and research.
Finance Trustee
We’re seeking a fully qualified accountant with:
- Experience in charity finance (international NGO experience is a plus) or capacity to develop the necessary knowledge and understanding
- Strategic insight into financial performance and risk
- The ability to contribute to the Finance, Audit & Risk Committee
Why Join Us?
- Join a charity at a defining moment as it becomes fully independent and prepares for a public re-launch in autumn 2026.
- Help increase influence and impact for children without parental care, or at risk of losing it.
- Support locally led interventions, youth participation, child safeguarding, income growth and a strong values-led culture.
- Work with a collaborative Board and executive team that values diverse backgrounds, perspectives and lived experience.
- Contribute to stronger systems, advocacy and partnerships so more children can grow up with love, respect and security.
About you:
We are looking for those with strong empathy for the mission, strategic insight, sound judgement and a collaborative spirit. Board experience is helpful but not essential: first-time trustees will be considered. SOS Children’s Villages UK particularly welcomes applications from individuals with direct experience of the UK or other care systems, as a child or adult.
- Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
- Ability to build and sustain relationships with stakeholders and colleagues.
- Good independent judgement, strategic vision and willingness to speak your mind respectfully.
- Understanding, or willingness to learn, the legal duties and responsibilities of trusteeship.
Recruitment timeline:
To ensure equitable access to information and uphold the organisations commitment to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, they will be hosting a Q&A webinar in place of individual informal calls with the Chair/Executive team. We encourage all interested candidates to submit questions in advance, which will be addressed during the session. Please register your interest in attending this webinar on Thursday 27th August 6-7pm and we will send you a link.
Application deadline: 5pm Friday 11th September

This is an opportunity to build a UK operation with a genuinely global purpose. You’ll have significant autonomy, direct access to senior leadership and the opportunity to shape innovative initiatives from the beginning.
The role is initially offered on a voluntary pathway or commission-based model, with an expected commitment of approximately 10 hours per week, with the intention of building sustainable funding that can support a future contracted position.
If you’re a builder, connector and strategic leader who wants to create something with lasting international impact, we’d love to hear from you.
