Job Title: Head of School Programmes

Reports to: Director of Programmes

Location: Quantum House, 22 – 24 Red Lion Court, Fleet Street, London, EC4A 3AB The role is open to hybrid working but the candidate would be expected to be in the office one day per week

Purpose: This is a fantastic opportunity to lead a team supporting and engaging thousands of state schools nationally to effectively use the Inspiring the Future and Primary Futures programmes to improve outcomes for children and young people. These programmes leverage technology to raise the aspirations and broaden the horizons of children and young people by connecting them to a huge range of volunteers from the world of work via career related learning activities. Alongside staff management and delivering a strategy for general programme engagement, the role manages the delivery of several funded projects.

Remuneration: £36 - £40k per annum FTE depending on experience

Additional Terms: 30 days paid holiday, exclusive of Statutory Holiday plus competitive pension scheme and a volunteering allowance of up to 5 days – pro rata in accordance with the length of contract. Additional family friendly benefits including enhancements to Statutory Payments.

Appointment Terms: Permanent and full time. We are open to part time working of a minimum of 4 days per week (0.8 FTE).

Job purpose

Working closely with the senior management team and deputising for the Director of Programmes where necessary, the successful candidate will have responsibility for developing and delivering a strategy to support the increase in successful school engagement with the charity’s main programmes Inspiring the Future and Primary Futures. This will include managing and leading a team to deliver effective school support, building strong relationships with key stakeholders including local authorities, unions and school networks and ensuring appropriate marketing, resources and guidance to support effective school usage. The role will be responsible for managing several key funded projects and contracts for the charity.

The schools team are responsible for both delivery of key funded projects and contracts as well as driving up awareness and effective engagement with Inspiring the Future and Primary Futures from schools. We now have over 11,000 teachers from state schools and colleges registered on Inspiring the Future and want to see a significant increase in those successfully using the platform and its related services over the next five years. In particular, we are looking to engage significantly more primary schools as well as continue our strong links with secondary and college staff.

The successful applicant will be expected to quickly pick up delivery of key projects and review, and where appropriate improve, existing strategic plans to engage and support state schools through our programmes and therefore a good understand of career related learning activities is essential. They will be supported by the Director of Programmes and senior management team and an excellent schools team of passionate staff.

The ideal candidate will be able to lead and manage a small and dynamic team and will be able to absorb key information quickly, working across a number of varied projects and programmes.

Key Accountabilities

Schools Engagement

• Working with the Director of Programmes to review, improve and implement strategic plans to increase the charity’s engagement with primary schools and secondary/colleges for Inspiring the Future and Primary Futures programmes
• Reviewing and updating KPIs around the number of schools registered, engaged and school satisfaction levels and monitoring these, adapting approaches as appropriate and utilising our salesforce CRM as a basis for reporting
• Utilising feedback mechanisms to monitor impact of programmes and projects, for children, young people, teachers and parents / carers as appropriate, working closely with colleagues across the team
• Developing and maintaining key relationships with careers providers, the Careers and Enterprise Company, local partners, teaching networks and unions and across various types of schools
• Presenting at virtual and face to face conferences and network events to school/college audiences about our programmes with a view to improving engagement and awareness,
• Leading the review and enhancement of resources and marketing materials for school engagement and ensuring these (including on our websites) are up to date
• Ensuring we have a strong teacher ambassador network that help drive the quality of our programmes and who act as advocates for the charity
• Working with the Communications Officer to support engaging content and newsletters for schools audience
• Input into the development of the team’s budget and forecasting.
• Keeping up to date with current education sector issues, research and trends particularly related to careers support and employer engagement.

Project Management and Delivery

•  Funded projects – leading the overall management and delivery of several projects which seek to engage schools to use Inspiring the Future and Primary Futures including funder relationship, project design, reporting, managing operational delivery and evaluation
• Supporting the charity to develop funding bids and identifying opportunities for future funding

Team Leadership / Line Management

• Line management of the Schools Engagement Team – currently 5 staff members
• Fostering a strong team environment including regular team meetings
• Supporting the recruitment of new staff including the development of any job descriptions
• Ensuring appropriate training is delivered for staff necessary for their roles

Other

• Attending and delivering virtual or face to face activities with schools and colleges
• Other ad hoc administrative tasks to support the team as needed

Person specification

Skills/ Knowledge/ Expertise

Essential

• A strong understanding of career-related learning at primary and secondary level
• Proven track record in delivery of programmes in primary and secondary schools
• Experience in successful project and programme management, including managing funder relationships and reporting.
• Experience in managing and leading a team, including line management, recruitment and performance reviews
• Knowledge and first-hand experience of effective use of client relationship management databases; preferably Salesforce
• Ability to engage confidently, articulately and sensitively with stakeholders and partners at a range of levels of seniority up to and including board level
• Polished presentation skills, adapting to different audiences and opportunities and including the ability to speak to research finding and create effective presentations.
• A passion for supporting young people in realising their potential

About the Education and Employers charity

Education and Employers is an independent UK based charity launched in 2009 with the vision of “providing children and young people with the inspiration, motivation, knowledge, skills and opportunities they need to help them achieve their potential”. It aims to achieve this by working with schools, employers, the national bodies that represent them and a wide range of other partners including the government and third sector organisations. The charity also works with partners internationally.

The charity runs Inspiring the Future, a free service which uses innovative match-making technology to connect volunteers with state schools and colleges, quickly, simply and at scale. Schools can very easily search a massive database of willing volunteers, filter against a wide range of criteria – e.g. subject, sector, career route and send them a message. It enables young people, wherever they live, whichever school they attend, the opportunity to meet people from a wide range of backgrounds doing jobs from across the whole world of work.

Nearly 85,000 people have already volunteered in the UK - people from all levels: apprentices to CEOs and all sectors: apps designers to zoologists and over 85% of English secondary schools have registered. People can volunteer from an hour a year in a local primary or secondary school to chat informally about their job and career route, take part in career speed networking session, give careers insights, provide mock interviews or feedback on CVs through to serving as a governor or trustee.  There is also the opportunity to link up with schools for workplace visits, job shadowing and mentoring.

Inspiring the Future operates on a technology platform kindly developed in partnership with Deloitte, Salesforce and Ordnance Survey. It allows the charity to run national campaigns others focused on specific geographic areas or economic sectors such as engineering, science, health and arts and culture. The campaigns have secured high profile support across government, business and teacher associations and ongoing corporate partnerships including our lead corporate partner Bank of America.

In partnership with the National Association of Head Teachers the charity has developed a version for primary schools called Primary Futures and over 6,500 primaries have already signed up. Te.  All campaigns run through Inspiring the Future share a common objective: to broaden young people’s horizons, raise their aspirations and show them the range of opportunities and careers routes e.g. apprenticeships and university open to them. Over 3.5 million interactions between young people and volunteers from the world of work have already taken place.

The charity runs Inspiring Governance the free governor recruitment and support service. This Department for Education funded service aims to get highly skilled volunteers to serve as governors in some of the most disadvantaged schools in England and in so doing help raise educational achievement.

Since the Charity’s launch it has sought to understand what difference employer engagement in education makes to young people and the economy. It works with academics and researchers from around the world and its own research is regularly cited by government and international organisations like the OECD. The research, which has informed and influenced a range of government policies, shows that employer engagement helps improve social mobility, reduces the likelihood of young people becoming NEET (not in education, employment of training), increases the amount they earn in adult life, helps them make better informed career choices and leads to improvements in educational attainment.

World Child Cancer is seeking an experienced corporate and philanthropy fundraiser to join our growing team and play a vital role in improving the chances of survival and quality of life of children with cancer in under-resourced countries.

About World Child Cancer

Over 400,000 children worldwide develop cancer each year. Childhood cancer is most often curable, with over 80% survival rate in high income countries. However, in many low-and-middle-income countries survival rates are often 25% or lower.

World Child Cancer’s goal is to help redress that inequity and improve the chances of children with cancer to survive and thrive in under-resourced countries. We currently work with local hospitals in 12 countries in Africa, Asia and Mexico to enable children with cancer to have equal access to the best possible treatment and care through awareness raising on signs of childhood cancer, providing financial, logistical and emotional support to address barriers to access treatment, training of healthcare workers and advocacy.

Overview of the role

This newly created Senior Philanthropy and Partnerships Manager role will play a key part in raising income from companies and philanthropists to help achieve World Child Cancer’s mission.

You will be passionate about enabling children with cancer to have equitable access to quality treatment wherever they are born. We are looking for someone experienced in corporate and philanthropy fundraising, who is proactive, confident in engaging with high value funders, able to develop strong internal and external relationships, has strong verbal and written communication skills, a collaborative way of working and experience in developing new business.

You will join a small but ambitious and high performing team that contributes significantly to World Child Cancer’s annual income of c. £2m.

Reporting to: Head of Philanthropy and Partnerships

Location: UK-based hybrid role: Home working for the time being, with the provision for regular meetings in the office. Office attendance encouraged on Mondays (nr Fenchurch Street, London)

About the post of CEO

You will report directly to the Board of Trustees, ensuring excellent governance of the Charity, regulatory compliance with the Charity Commission and Companies House, and will collaborate with Trustees on designing and executing the 2024-2027 strategy. You will lead and support a team of seven staff, supporting 500+ older and disabled Neighbours annually with a large team of volunteers. You will ensure excellent management of charity’s finances and that adequate funding is in place to maintain all charitable activity, monitoring and evaluation. You will ensure that the charity maintains its reputation and develops its exposure and standing. 

About you

You will have strategic leadership experience and have previously led teams. You will have a strong understanding of charity governance and will have demonstrable fundraising knowledge and/or experience. You will be passionate about supporting older and disabled people and will have a strong understanding of their needs. You will be equipped to represent the Charity both internally and externally.  

JOB DESCRIPTION

Strategy and Operations

1. Develop, implement, and lead execution of the charity's annual operational plan and 3-year strategic plan.

2. Identify appropriate level of staffing, volunteering, ensuring that all staff and volunteers are appropriately interviewed, vetted, inducted, trained, developed, and supported to deliver against their objectives.

3. Ensure appropriate upkeep, security, and management of the charity’s premises, including all relevant contracts and payments.

4. Ensure that the charity’s IT systems are fit for purpose and compliant with relevant law.

People

5. Line management of seven staff members, and responsibility for staff and team development, cohesion and appraisals.

6. Recruit and support social club facilitators and appropriate consultants to provide additional resource to the charity as required.

7. Lead staff member for safeguarding, liaising directly with Hammersmith and Fulham Adult Social Care.

8. Ensure appropriate mechanisms and safeguards are in place to support up to 100 regular volunteers, and up to 100 additional corporate/student volunteers.

9. Ensure appropriate mechanisms and safeguards are in place to support up to 500 beneficiaries and additional attendees at FGN events.

Finance and Fundraising

10. Develop, implement, and lead charity’s financial and fundraising planning and management, ensuring that the charity operates at least at break-even, ideally with a small surplus.

11. Ensure that the charity has a diverse range of income across various streams, inclusive of (but not limited to) public sector, trusts and foundations, corporate income, events, and online giving.

12. Ensure that the charity is receiving value for money with all expenditure, ensuring contract review on a timely basis as appropriate.

13. Ensure appropriate cashflow projections so that expenditure does not exceed income in any one year unless pre-agreed with trustees.

14. Ensure that appropriate financial controls are in place so to protect charity and anyone handling money on behalf of the charity.

15. In conjunction with the finance administrator and hon. treasurer monitor all income, expenditure, accounts, funding investments and budgets.

Governance

16 Ensure compliance with charity and company law, inclusive of writing, presentation and filing of annual report and accounts and other Company Secretary duties.

17 Organise, attend, record and report at board meetings every two months, inclusive of finance and operations reporting and the regular cycle of governance reviews.

18 Plan, organise and attend AGM and annual strategy session.

19 Ensure appropriate level of risk management and insurance are in place for the charity.

20 Ensure all relevant policies, procedures and financial controls are in place, inclusive of annual review.

Communications and Impact

21. Represent and promote the charity in public, sourcing media opportunities as appropriate so to increase visibility.

22. Represent the charity on appropriate networks and forums so to develop stakeholder relationships and source opportunities for cross-partner collaboration.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Salary will be c. £54,000 and is set in line with NJC pay scales 2024/25.

Working hours are 35 hours over 5 days per week. The postholder will be based primarily on site but with the possibility of up to one day per week remote working by agreement.

For more than 50 years, the British Dyslexia Association (BDA) has been the voice of people living with dyslexia. We aim to influence government and other institutions to promote a dyslexia friendly society that enables dyslexic people of all ages to reach their full potential. The BDA is established as the leading dyslexia charity in the UK.

About the role 

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and dynamic Events Manager to lead on Media Trust’s 2024 calendar of fundraising and industry-facing events, including our upcoming 30th Birthday Fundraising Gala and support with other programme-related events.

The successful candidate will have demonstrable expertise in delivering successful fundraising and other events, working across multiple projects, and finding new and innovative ways to engage corporate supporters in fundraising events and campaigns. 

You will be part of the Volunteering & Events Management team and will manage a range of in person and virtual events, from fundraising events to corporate partner cultivation drinks, industry roundtables and large-scale volunteering initiatives. You will work with internal and external stakeholders to develop and deliver impactful high-quality events and ensure that all our events deliver against set targets.

This role would suit someone with a good understanding and experience of the UK charity sector and a passion for equalities and inclusion. We are looking for a strong candidate to take Media Trust’s event activity and fundraising to the next level to enable us to support more charities and underrepresented talent and engage more media and creative industry professionals in our work. 

Key responsibilities  

Events Management 

• Manage end-to-end delivery of Media Trust events, campaigns and projects of varying size, format and complexity, both in person and virtually

• Lead on the development and running of Media Trust’s 30th Birthday celebratory events, including but not limited to our Fundraising Gala, ensuring the fundraising target is hit or exceeded 

• Support the Programmes team and Media Trust Films team on delivery of events when necessary, including, but not limited to, Charity Challenge Days and Film Screenings 

• Provide a high standard of support to key stakeholders throughout the planning, execution and evaluation of each event 

• Develop and implement consistent processes, procedures and documentation for all events across Media Trust, including event timelines, agendas, speaker and staff briefs 

• Develop fundraising and sponsorship proposals to fund core events across Media Trust  

• Manage event budgets ensuring they are run cost effectively

• Maximise the profitability (where appropriate), sustainability and quality of all events 

• Act as first point of contact for stakeholders including corporate partners, venues, caterers, speakers, attendees, Media Trust staff and Trustees 

• Research and suggest relevant key speakers and work with all Media Trust teams to finalise speakers for events

• Work closely with the Marketing team to develop communications to promote events and drive engagement 

• Monitor KPIs and evaluate the impact of events, providing reports and feedback summaries as required 

• Ensure all Media Trust events and fundraising activities are logged effectively and Media Trust’s CRM is kept up-to-date 

Corporate Partner Activity 

• Liaise with our Corporate Partners and lead on bespoke events organised as part of their partnership with Media Trust

• Work closely with the Partnerships team to develop and deliver volunteer opportunities, recruiting, briefing and training volunteers including presentations and pitches  

• Work with other members of the Volunteering & Events Management team to support with other volunteering activity including development of innovative events and opportunities

Additional Responsibilities  

• Continual research and ideation, monitoring industry trends for new and exciting fundraising and profile-raising opportunities and partnership collaborations

What we are looking for in you 

Essential 

• Experience of end-to-end event management, including the planning of fundraising events, and delivering high-impact results in a professional or charitable organisation

• Experience of organising both online and in person events

• Attention to detail, accuracy, and the ability to manage and prioritise across multiple events, work with multiple teams and meet deadlines 

• Experience of working with Corporate Partners and managing stakeholder relationships at both a strategic and project level 

• Outstanding communication skills and ability to adapt tone and approach for different stakeholders

Older Citizens Advocacy York (OCAY) is a thriving charity dedicated to supporting older people (aged 50+) in York. OCAY provides a free, confidential, and independent advocacy service. Last year they helped 568 older people have their voices heard. Charity People are thrilled to be supporting OCAY to recruit a Charity Director to lead them into their next phase of growth and impact.

About the role:

As Charity Director, you'll work closely with a dedicated and engaged board of trustees to provide strategic direction and operational leadership of OCAY. You'll oversee all aspects of OCAY's services, manage resources effectively, and ensure financial sustainability through diversified funding streams. This is a varied and broad role which requires agility, innovation, and a passion for supporting older and vulnerable individuals. You'll be an outward facing leader, looking for collaboration and partnership opportunities with other organisations supporting older people across the city of York. You'll get involved in the coordination of outreach activities to enhance OCAY's profile and service awareness alongside managing governance requirements, including communication with regulatory bodies, cultivating strong relationships with funders and partner organisations.

About you:

We are looking for an experienced leader/manager who understands and has empathy towards older and vulnerable people. This role offers an exciting mix of strategy and getting stuck into the day-to-day operational needs of a small organisation, so the ability to balance strategic vision with operational implementation is a must. You'll be brilliant at managing and leading your team while demonstrating a commitment to diversity, equality, and inclusion. We are looking for someone who has a proven track record of achieving results and solving problems innovatively, while being confident in budgeting and financial management. We would love our Charity Director to have experience of income generation, in particular grant applications, as well as experience working with volunteer boards or management committees.

Working closely with a committed and extensive team of volunteers and paid staff, and with the support of an established and engaged board of Trustees, you will be steering the work on our vision and leading the team to deliver it.

As the leader of a relatively small charity, you will be engaged with many operational aspects of the organisation.

Taking on the stewardship of the new plot of land will be one of the priorities in the first year.

You will be managing our annual income of around £200K, our part-time managers (admin; orchard planting, scrumping, courses and sites) plus a team of 25 workers and key volunteers engaged in ongoing roles.

Hours can be worked flexibly, though you will need to attend in-person meetings, events and site visits, including some weekends and evenings. We have a kitchen and barn at Stanmer Park, but not an office. All desk work and online meetings will need to be done remotely using your own equipment.

Key responsibilities:

· Figurehead and ambassador for the organisation. Willing to be available for interviews and talks.

· Decision maker. Brighton Permaculture Trust has always been a collaborative organisation. There will be times when quick or difficult decisions are needed.

· Setting budgets and monitoring finances. Draft budgets for our financial year July 2024 to June 2025 are in place.

· Writing/assisting with funding bids. 

· Formal reporting to the Trustees quarterly, plus monthly opportunities to meet with the Trustees for support, collaboration and feedback.

· Leading monthly meetings with the operational managers. Operational managers cover each key area: Scrumped in Sussex, Community Orchards, Brighton Permaculture Trust Sites, Courses & Events and Admin/Compliance.

· One-to-one meetings with operational managers, key contractors and volunteers as required. These can be online or on-site.

· Supporting the wider team to agree on SMART targets for each project and deliver on our strategic goals.

· Attending Brighton Permaculture Trust Apple Days events (3 per year).

· Being the main point of contact for key relationships, including major donors, funders, partner organisations and Brighton & Hove City Council.

· Presenting our year’s achievements to the members at our AGM.

· Line management of 3-5 operational managers as these roles move to long-term contracts

· Representing the Trust at assorted, infrequent external meetings and events would be desirable and require some flexibility in days/times worked. 

The development and growth of Men’s Sheds is made possible through a network of volunteers and partnerships across the UK. 

These roles will develop new Sheds across the East Midlands and North of England., coordinate and manage partnerships with other organisations and charities to support the growth and development of the movement.  This role has the focus to support the growth of new and development of new Men’s Sheds, enhancing our reach and the reach of Sheds.  Our partnerships underpin the development programmes for the charity.

MOVE AGAINST CANCER Charity (MOVE) is looking for an experienced, dynamic and motivated Programme Coordinator with the passion and the skills to support our small teams and programmes.

We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced individual with a strong administration background to join our growing team. We are looking for an exceptional individual with administration, data management, logistics experience, organisational skills and someone who can provide valuable support across our programmes as we grow.

Salary: £20k - £23k depending on experience.
