Role and Responsibilities

We are looking to recruit a law graduate (1-3 years post-graduation) with experience in environmental law, economic justice and/or international development to join our small but dynamic team. Depending on experience, the role will support our programmes challenging economic injustice caused by environmental damage, biodiversity loss, deforestation, illegal resource trafficking, climate change and conflicts over natural resources; promoting transparency and accountability in public and private institutions to encourage responsibility and minimise the impacts of corruption; and promoting fairer and more effective economic and fiscal policy tools to help states meet development goals and enhance the rule of law. A more detailed explanation of our work is set out in our 2024-2026 Strategy.

Working as part of a small, busy team, you will have the opportunity to learn at very close hand what it means to work for an international NGO focusing on achieving environmental and economic justice. You will develop projects with a range of partners, including international agencies, NGOs and CSOs, and governments and government bodies. You will collaborate with a range of volunteer lawyers (law firms and barristers chambers) who are leading experts in their field. The role will also involve project management, assistance with fundraising, fulfilling compliance obligations, and evaluating and learning from projects.

Key Competencies:
• Relevant experience and knowledge (either from previous work experience or study) relating to environmental law and policy and/or economic justice in an international development context;
• A law graduate with a good understanding of how law is useful to achieving reform on the above;
• Demonstrable understanding (either from previous work experience or study) of key issues in sustainable international development, including the UN Sustainable Development Goals;
• Experience in developing countries and transitional economies;
• Ability to develop and manage relationships with a range of stakeholders, including donors, NGOs, civil society organisations and government representatives, on an international basis;
• Familiarity with, or understanding and enthusiasm for the concept and practice of, pro bono legal assistance;
• Demonstrable project management skills and experience, including administration and coordination;
• Ability to work on a wide range of tasks simultaneously;
• Excellent research skills to effectively convey research findings;
• Comfortable working independently and proactively and as part of a small team with a busy caseload;
• Strong interpersonal and team working skills;
• Some experience or demonstrable ability in donor management, including managing existing relationships, meeting donor reporting requirements and in raising funds for future projects and activities (desirable);
• Working knowledge of another language used in Sub-Saharan Africa or Latin America such as French, Portuguese, Kiswahili or Spanish (desirable).

Key Responsibilities:
1. Work closely with the Senior Legal Managers and/or Legal Manager to deliver and implement the programme strategy, in conjunction with the Executive Director, partners, staff and Board;
2. Assist in developing an understanding of the most effective policy tools and legal interventions to deliver the programme objectives, through engagement with volunteer lawyers, ILP partners, staff, Board and others;
3. Support the building and maintenance of ILP’s programme(s). This includes:
• Liaising with partners to identify legal/policy needs and offer potential legal and/or policy reform solutions, including through conducting legal analysis;
• Assisting the programme lead(s) to build a pipeline of relevant projects and cases, including through engaging in outreach to potential pro bono partners;
• Supporting programme staff to network and build relationships with volunteer lawyers who have relevant technical expertise;
• Mapping and developing relationships with regional and international development entities and other technical assistance providers to identify potential partners, needs and focus countries;
• Representing the programme(s) in external fora and events;
4. Assist with ensuring effective project delivery and evaluation of impact including:
• Coordinating project implementation through the full project cycle;
• Supporting the preparation of financial and narrative reports for donors;
• Maintaining strong programme management and knowledge management systems and processes;
5. Support fundraising activities to support both the programme(s) and organisational overheads, including exploring opportunities for potential funding and assisting with funding applications;
6. Share in the necessary operational activities of the organisation. This includes some administration and contributions to website and social media communications.

Key details about the position:
• Location:Flexible for the right candidate including those outside the UK. Office premises are located in central London, with hybrid working (approx. 2 days per week in the office) if London-based.

We are seeking to appoint someone on a 12-month fixed term contract as maternity cover, to join our Grants Team in delivering The Ideas Fund, an exciting programme which looks to connect communities with researchers in order to develop and try out ideas related to mental wellbeing. The Fund is delivered in four areas of the UK – Oldham, Hull, the Highlands and Islands of Scotland, and North West Northern Ireland, although this role can be remote, based anywhere in the UK.

With support from the Head of Grants, we expect that you will have lead responsibility for our work in two of these areas, building strong relationships with our Development Co-ordinators and contributing to the successful delivery of the overall programme. You will oversee the support for grant holders to learn from what is working and feed this learning into our overall approach with the Fund, as well as sharing insights externally. You will work with our existing Grants & Learning Manager to ensure that our due diligence and grant reporting requirements are met, responding flexibly and creatively to issues that arise. The main responsibilities of this role are to:

• Work with the Head of Grants to deliver an innovative programme that constantly evolves based on what we learn.
• Deliver excellent grant-making using relational, flexible and participatory approaches.
• Design and implement high-quality assessment, due diligence and grant management processes, continually reviewing and refining the approach.
• Support the assessment and delivery of a portfolio of ‘evidence building’ grants, with projects due to begin in January 2025.
• Design and implement learning and evaluation strategies and processes, reviewing and refining as needed. Manage relationships and/or contracts with learning partners where appropriate.
• Support local Development Coordinators to:
  • Ensure the programme’s aim of supporting underserved communities is fulfilled and the grants budget is committed.

  • Work with grant holders, collaborating researchers and project partners to overcome challenges they might face in delivering their projects.
  • Collate and share local learning as part of an evidence building and practice sharing strategy, which is currently in development.
• Develop and manage a small pipeline of discretionary ‘infrastructure’ grants to add value to the portfolio and/or make systemic impact at local or national level, if necessary.
• Develop bespoke application and grant management and learning processes as appropriate.
• Work with the Head of Grants to devise a learning and development plan for the Grants Team.
• Build and engage a network of key stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of the programme.
• Champion innovation in supporting community/researcher collaboration, community-led research, systems change and grant-making across relevant sectors including:
  • Sharing learning, practice and ideas with a broad range of stakeholders through a range of approaches.
  • Representing the British Science Association at external events to share innovation and learning.
  • Develop and deliver events and/or content to showcase practice.
• Support the Head of Grants with developing the BSA’s strategy around future grants programmes. 

In addition, the post-holder will be expected to:

• Support colleagues across the organisation, especially at busy times or on specific areas of expertise.
• Undertake assessment or grant management work on other programmes as required.
• Other duties as reasonably required by the line manager.

Assistant Schools Officer (Organisation and Estates)

The Assistant Schools Officer (Organisation and Estates) is a crucial role at the Diocese, as you will act as the first point of contact from church schools, site trustees, our consultants and other professional advisers regarding school estates and buildings, site ownership and educational endowments.

Reporting to the Schools Officer and working within the Children, Young People and Education department, you will support the Board’s statutory responsibilities in promoting education across the Diocese; particularly in advising school leaders and governors in relation to school organisation and the use or development of land and buildings.

As Assistant Schools Officer, you will provide support by monitoring projects relating to school estates (building developments, maintenance and repairs) and make proactive enquiries and interventions to sustain progress against recorded timescales.

You will also take responsibility for managing the schools’ Devolved Formula Capital (DFC) grant held by the Diocese; guiding schools in interpreting definitions regarding suitable DFC projects, liaising with schools regarding available funding and helping schools to prioritise projects/the application of funds effectively for estate management.

A crucial part of our strategy is to assess the environmental impact of the Diocese’s church schools, planning for and supporting schools to advance decarbonisation and energy efficiency projects. As Assistant Schools Officer you will regularly update and signpost church schools to banks of practical materials and resources for decarbonisation campaigns, toolkits and projects, building case studies of best practice.

With relevant professional experience in an education, administrative, property or project support context, you should be capable of supporting projects and have the ability to apply understanding to tasks. Able to summarise complex information clearly, you should be able to explain the progress of projects to those with no specialist understanding.

Forward thinking, adaptable and responsive to a varied work programme, you should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and have evidence of recent study, training or development and a willingness to learn new knowledge and technical skills.

It is essential for you to be supportive of the vision of the CYPE team and to be sympathetic to the contribution of Church of England schools to Christian mission.

An understanding and awareness of Church of England structures and knowledge of the current educational landscape within the context of church schools, along with experience of budget management or monitoring financial reports would be desirable.

The ability to travel and a willingness to attend occasional evening and weekend meetings and events is essential.

This role will build partnerships with organisations to create support pathways. We want to maximise use of our building by creating a support ‘marketplace’ inviting partners into the foodbank and increasing guest access to the broadest range of services.

About the Role

The Assistant Reserves Officer is one of our team managing and developing the Trust’s nature reserves for people and wildlife.  Your work place includes internationally recognised wetlands and woodlands along with nationally important meadows, chalk grasslands and heathland across Hertfordshire and Middlesex.

You will need to have strong experience in practical habitat management, including the use of power tools and machinery, such as chainsaws, brush cutters and BCS mowers. You will have experience of working within a dynamic team and leading volunteers. You will need to have a keen interest in wildlife and preferably a knowledge of the habitats in our area.

No two days are the same as an ARO at HMWT; you will get the opportunity to utilise and develop your practical habitat management skills across our nature reserves including tree felling, coppicing, scrub clearance, hay cutting and pond/ditch management. You will also undertake the maintenance of site infrastructure; assist with the management of livestock; and perform surveying and monitoring of habitat/species, tree safety and infrastructure. These tasks will be delivered working closely with members of the nature reserves team; our volunteer wardens and our practical conservation volunteers.

Willingness to travel throughout our work area and flexibility to work occasional irregular hours is required for this post.

• Team members are responsible for their own administration; however you will provide admin support to the organisation eg booking training courses, managing room bookings, offering support to staff that are facilitating Teams meetings/training events.

Communication

Research, Support & Development

• The post holder will help produce regular impact reports for senior staff

Person Specification

• Experienced office administrator with excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Southmead Hospital Charity is looking for a detail-oriented Database Insight Officer who has experience working with Raiser’s Edge NXT CRM or other relational databases. This role will support the charity as we continue to use data to inform our business planning and will have ongoing responsibility for our database and supporting information flows for teams to improve insight management. 

The post holder will also be responsible for processing all donations received by the Charity across a range of platforms, coupled with the successful monthly reconciliation between the fundraising database and the charity bank account.

This role is ideal for someone who is methodical, enjoys working with data and has experience maintaining a database. Our Data Insight Officer will work across all areas and create insight reports for all our teams, including fundraising and marketing to inform public fundraising appeals and marketing communications.

Location: Central London. We offer flexible and hybrid working but office-based work will be essential on a regular basis.

Salary: £43,000 per annum

Main purpose of role: To manage the day-to-day running of our grant programmes to organisations and support the practical implementation of any new grant programmes from application process through to due diligence and record maintenance.

• Manage a portfolio of organisational grants that deliver our theory of change outcomes.
• Provide full grant management of our organisational grants, including: preparing grant deeds, keeping track of payments and reporting requirements, distilling learning, to grant renewal considerations.
• Organise and conduct regular meetings with funded organisations to learn alongside organisations and see the work in action.
• Implement grant making processes that reflect best practice and encourage learning through our grant making. 
• Keep up-to-date with changes and developments in the external environment and work with colleagues to reflect this in strategy and practice.

Grant programme development 

• Undertaking scoping and research for new grant programmes, and developing practical knowledge about new programme areas as required.
• Providing project management support for new grant programmes alongside the Senior Grants Manager.
• Taking a lead on the negotiation of new grant agreements.
• Managing the day-to-day processes required by any new grant programme from concept through to advertising the fund, assessing grant applications, due diligence, writing recommendation papers to trustees, to awarding funding and gathering and sharing learning.

Other activities  

• Working with the Impact team to develop our monitoring and evaluation capabilities with funded organisations.
• Working with the Partnerships and Participation Manager and Policy and Best Practice Manager to ensure that our grant making processes are informed by the key stakeholders. 
• Working with our fundraising and communication team to ensure we are communicating effectively with supporters about our work.

The Digital Transformation Manager leads THET’s efforts to transform our own programmes of work and the way THET  operates, and also that of the Health Partnership community to better incorporate and enable best practice in digital solutions. The Digital Transformation Manager will work with teams across the organisation to consider how in every aspect of THET’s work we can transform our use of technology to achieve greater efficiencies and effectiveness, improve inclusivity and equity, and whilst reducing our carbon footprint. Digital Transformation is a key enabler for the organisation to help advance access to health services in low-and-middle-income countries, via activities such as building online communities, online learning for health workforces in complex and humanitarian settings, e-health, amongst others. This role will require engagement across the different departments of THET including programmes, and research, evidence and learning, and external engagement, as well as engaging with external stakeholders to drive and raise visibility of this agenda.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategy

• Lead the review and delivery of THET’s digital transformation strategy. 

• Lead and implement THET’s digital enablers to support the organisation’s strategic plan.

Product management

• Develop and enhance the user experience of both external and internal stakeholders across key digital products including the THET website, Pulse platform, learning platforms and bespoke applications.

• Conduct user research and collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive a long-term strategy across our digital portfolio.

Stakeholder and project management

 • Provide guidance and capacity development to both THET staff and the Health Partnership community on digital implementations and best practice

• Ensure THET has accurate data and analytics to support operations and programmes across THET.

• Project manage key digital projects including scoping, testing, implementation, and review.

• Engage with external experts to promote and drive THET’s digital agenda across the global health sector.

• Lead and develop THET’s digital reporting mechanism to track the success of digital implementation across programmes.

• Lead a Digital Transformation Working Group to support digital transformation across THET and the wider HP community. 

External representation and publicization

• Representation at key THET and external events raising visibility of digital working within health partnerships and across the health partnership community.

• Working with THET external engagement and research evidence and learning teams to deliver communisations and policy documents on digital transformation.

Fundraising and digital transformation project design

• Lead fundraising for digital transformation at THET, working closely with colleagues across the organisation.

• Support colleagues in integrating digital transformation across project proposals.

• Reporting back to donors to demonstrate the value of THET’s digital interventions.

Operations

• Manage third party providers including vendors and Managed Service Providers, ensuring compliance with SLA’s.

• Working with the Chief Operating Officer, ensure THET has adequate and appropriate IT infrastructure and cybersecurity processes in support with IT MSP

• Support the implementation of GDPR practices across THET in line with regulation and best practice. 

Line Management

• Line manages the Digital Transformation Officer.

• Mentor and coach other team members as required

This job is remote with occassional travel to London and upto 4weeks per year international travel.

The role will be a stimulating and inspiring opportunity for an experienced equality and discrimination lawyer to work pro actively and strategically to use the law as a tool for change. 

BEO is a civil rights charity that was set up to challenge and dismantle systemic racism. We work with Black communities by using campaigning, policy and research in conjunction with the law to effect meaningful change. 
Legal services are central to BEO. We are therefore looking for someone of 4yrs PQE who has experience in social welfare, human rights, public and administration law and who seeks an opportunity to use those skills specifically in the area of challenging systemic racism. 

In the last year we have been developing our relationships with partner organisations, ranging from community groups, our stakeholder law firms, NGOs and law firms experienced in equality and discrimination law, to deliver legal services. The role holder will be required to build on and expand these relationships so that BEO can offer quality legal advice to Back communities in the nations and regions across the United Kingdom. 
We are building our internal legal team so that we can provide targeted legal support to Black communities. We are looking for someone to work with the Director of Legal Services and Policy to ensure that high quality legal advice, support and representation are the hallmark of BEO. 

Apart from delivering targeted legal advice and representation and identifying and running strategic litigation cases, the role holder will be required to think creatively to assist in fundraising and campaigning to develop a sustainable legal service. BEO does not have a Legal Aid Agency contract so self funds all legal work. BEO is a small team, so the role holder must have the skills and confidence to work on their own initiative as well as with members of other teams in BEO. 

About You-
We are looking for someone who is excited about being part of a team that will build a legal service and who can work with Black communities and be guided by them. 
You will also be able to demonstrate that you are aware that Black communities are not homogeneous and you will bring this understanding to the way that you approach your work and interact with clients, our partners and community organisations. 

Your qualities will include an understanding that intersectionality is relevant in all that we do at BEO and that your assessment of how we use the law will be seen through that lens. 

You will be someone who has lived experience of or insight and comprehension of the impact of racism on all aspects of the lives of members of Black communities.
