As a registered charity, fundraising is of critical importance to our organisation in supporting the delivery of a number of projects, from historic building preservation to innovative new learning programmes and community outreach.

This newly created role within our Development Team will play a vital role in supporting the Historic Dockyard in generating funding to support a wide variety of projects. 

We are looking for someone who is a natural relationship builder and is passionate about the aims and objectives of Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust.  The successful candidate will be working alongside the Development Manager to grow support from Charitable Trusts and Foundations, corporate supporters and growing individual giving opportunities.

This role is a great opportunity for someone looking to build on their fundraising experience and develop further utilising a wide range of fundraising disciplines.

Job purpose

Part of the Communications and Engagement department, the Senior Policy and Public Affairs Officer is responsible for developing and implementing strategic policy initiatives and engaging with key stakeholders to advance our policy priorities across the four UK nations. Working with colleagues, members and external stakeholders, you will deliver high quality analysis and research, produce evidence-based policy positions and outputs, and employ effective public affairs approaches to influence change on behalf of our members.

Main responsibilities

Strategic planning and reporting

• Contribute to developing, implementing and evaluating policy and public affairs (PPA) strategies, campaigns and plans aligned to member priorities and our wider strategic aims.
• Lead and manage the delivery of specific PPA workstreams, working in partnership with other organisations as needed.
• Monitor and report on performance against organisational and departmental objectives.

Policy development

• Monitor and analyse the external policy, political and parliamentary landscape across the four UK nations to identify influencing opportunities and relevant developments – summarising these for internal audiences.
• Contribute to the design and analysis of member surveys, drafting reports and presenting findings to inform the College’s policy agenda.
• Work with colleagues to research and draft evidence-based policy positions, consultation responses and briefings for politicians, civil servants, NHS and other key decision makers.
• Maintain an accurate evidence library of data and information to support the development of policy.
• Provide policy-related support to relevant committees to enable their effective contribution to the College’s work, including ensuring agreed actions are implemented.

Public affairs

• Build new and strengthen existing relationships with policymakers, government officials, clinicians and other relevant stakeholders across the four UK nations to advance the College’s policy objectives and maintain a thought leadership position within the eye health sector.
• Draft briefings and presentations to support events and senior-level meetings with politicians, civil servants, NHS and other key decision makers.
• Arrange and represent (as appropriate) the College at events, conferences and external stakeholder meetings.
• Build and maintain the College’s stakeholder database, tracking progress and advising on how to engage with different stakeholders.

Communications

• Work closely with the communications team to support the delivery of communications strategies and plans, ensuring the accuracy of policy information contained in College outputs and contributing to our press activities, member magazine, newsletters and website as required.
• Draft, implement and evaluate the impact of strategic engagement plans for policy publications.
• Support the communication of College policy positions internally, including by proposing lines to take for inclusion in our messaging house and assisting in briefing colleagues and volunteers – including the Chief Executive and President – on these.

To undertake other duties as required

• Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the College.
• Working outside normal hours and/or overnight stays may be necessary to support the delivery of key organisational events.

Our client, a leading London university, is looking to recruit a part time Database Officer to be responsible for managing and maintaining the Development Team's operational platforms and database, which underpins all Development and Alumni activity. This is a temporary role, 3-4 days per week, running for up to 3 months in the first instance. This position may be fully remote, if you are unable to travel to the Chelmsford Campus when required.

Communications:     

• Develop, contribute to and implement impact-driven and strategic communications campaigns that build Kineara’s fundraising capacity and raise awareness of the issues
• Develop brand identity for Kineara’s new charitable arm, ensuring it is consistent across all activities in the organisation, while maintaining Kineara’s overall ‘look and feel’ to ensure coherence in branding, colours, messaging, style and approach.

Climate Change Adaptation Officer
Salary: £31,000 - £35,000

As the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) sixth assessment report laid out in March 2023, we are now on the brink of irrevocable damage from climate change; this is our ‘final warning’ and the time is now for action to address this crisis.

The report highlighted that restoring nature was one of the key actions needed to address this issue. Somerset Wildlife Trust are at the forefront of this work in Somerset and are fully committed to this path through our Wilder Somerset 2030 Strategy and to delivering a vision whereby we reverse biodiversity loss and tackle the climate crisis.

Developing and further embedding the ‘Act to Adapt’ process, through our ‘Adapting Somerset’ and ‘Somerset’s Wilder Coast’ projects to support communities and to develop plans to adapt their local areas to the impacts of climate change.

Responsibility 1: Providing leadership and technical expertise

Being proactive and nurture strong relationships by:

• Providing leadership on SWT Climate Change Nature Adaptation work.
• Working closely with the Local Nature Partnership Coordinator and Advocacy Manager, and wider project team from partner organisations, to develop and deliver a programme of online and in-person communications, meetings and workshops. This is designed to foster climate change adaptation in the county supporting nature’s recovery and community resilience, and therefore involves working closely with farmers and landowners, all layers of local council, infrastructure experts, academics and the general public, including communities already impacted by flooding.
• Providing line management to the Climate Adaptation Assistant.
• Continuing developing the RAD approach for priority habitats, alongside the Landscape Recovery team, which will contribute to managing land within internationally important wetlands.
• Keeping abreast of national and international climate change developments and relate these to Somerset.

Responsibility 2: Engagement with Communities and Creating Robust Partnerships

Lead engagement efforts by:

• Contributing to discussions and workstreams developing climate change adaptation pathways at a county level, and in specific local areas relating to flooding, drought and wildfire.
• Developing information for a lay audience regarding the role of nature in reducing the impacts of climate change, including: sea-level rise; predicted changes in land use; warming, etc. and to help people understand what the future may bring especially in Somerset’s more vulnerable nature habitats.
• Supporting people’s wider understanding of the role of nature to mitigate climate change through carbon sequestration and storage.
• Continuing the rollout of the Act to Adapt process in local communities, organising events and workshops and using the Climate Adaptation Toolkit to explain the process of developing community and nature based solutions to the big issues of climate change.

Responsibility 3: Developing sustainable projects and evaluation

Lead and support projects and reporting by:

• Working with the Somerset Local Nature Recovery Strategy team to incorporate climate adaptation and vulnerability principles to these priorities.
• Assisting with work to share information and project developments with project partners in the UK.
• Developing and implement a communications plan that raises awareness of the project and its impact; garners support; and highlights Somerset as a place at the frontline for climate change. This will include engagement through social media and the production of awareness materials in printed and online formats.
• Managing the budget of the Adapting Somerset project and keep track of time contributions to the ELM’s Landscape Recovery and Somerset’s Wilder Coast projects.
• Monitoring and evaluating progress and impact, meeting project milestones and reporting to funders.

Rainbow Migration, the longest-running charity in Europe dedicated to supporting LGBTQI+ people through the asylum and immigration system, is recruiting a Legal Officer to advise and help improve the representation of LGBTQI+ people seeking asylum, and help change the asylum and immigration system to one that treats everyone with compassion, dignity and respect.

We are looking for a qualified solicitor or barrister with valid practising certificate, or already accredited to Level 3 OISC, with two years’ experience in providing advice and representation in asylum including working in legal aid.

You will be responsible for the day-to-day delivery of the legal advice service. Under the guidance of our Legal Service Manager, you will also build capacity amongst legal representatives by designing and delivering training, giving second tier advice and developing and coordinating a network of practitioners working in this area. You will use the knowledge you gain in this role to help deliver Rainbow Migration’s policy work, such as inputting into policy papers and meeting with partner organisations when required.

· Provide occasional advice (within competence) on other issues affecting asylum and partnership service users such as asylum support, legal aid, trafficking, family reunion or community care

· Deliver second tier advice to the legal representatives of LGBTQI+ people seeking asylum and other charities and professionals

· Work with the Legal Service Manager to design and deliver training to lawyers, NGOs and other professionals

· Write blogs and articles on asylum and immigration policy and legislation as they apply to LGBTQI+ people

· Contribute to policy and briefing papers

· Assist with preparing guidelines and briefings for legal services and pro bono lawyers

The Legal Officer will not be providing direct legal representation of service users. However, the role includes substantive advice and casework within the scope of legal support and referrals for our service users, as well as merits testing and second tier advice.

Contract Type: Permanent.

Hours: Full-time (35 hours per week). Working part-time or job-sharing will be considered. Occasional work in the evenings and at weekends may be required but with plenty of notice. Rainbow Migration encourages staff to maintain a good work life balance and has a TOIL system in place.

Salary: Starting at £40,175, with potential annual step increases up to £44,868 (pro-rata for part-time employees), plus statutory employer’s pension contribution. In addition to an annual step increase, the trustees consider giving a separate inflationary increase every April. 

Location: Remote or from Rainbow Migration’s offices in central London. Hybrid working will also be considered. The successful candidate could work from anywhere in the UK but would be expected to occasionally travel to London and other parts of the country for meetings and events. You'll be at the heart of our fundraising efforts, recruiting passionate supporters and managing event logistics to maximise impact.

Assisting with the delivery of our Community Fundraising strategy, you will focus on marketing our portfolio of Community Fundraising products to ensure we meet recruitment, income and expenditure targets.

This person will be responsible for the fundraising and communications function of the organisation, helping us to secure income via individual and community fundraising and charitable trusts and foundations as well as taking initiative to develop and grow into new areas of fundraising to help maintain and grow our services to survivors.
