About us
Established in 2020, we are a small, well-established charity with a strong grounding and a clear purpose. We raise funds to provide support to adopted, fostered and kinship care children and their families to improve emotional wellbeing, strengthen relationships, and reduce the impact of early trauma. Services offered include Family Activity Days, Specialist Clinical Workshops, Advisory Consultations and Family Respite Camps. We also work to raise awareness of the challenges faced by children who cannot live with their birth families. We are a warm, committed team with a strong reputation for high‑quality support, clear governance, and genuine care for the families we serve.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a dedicated Board and a small operational support team who care deeply about the families we serve and the long‑term sustainability of the organisation.
The charity is currently led by a Board of four trustees, supported by two part‑time operational staff and a small group of volunteers.
As Chair, you will provide leadership to the Board, ensure effective governance, and help the charity continue enabling the delivery of high‑quality, trauma‑informed support. You will work closely with the trustees and operational colleagues to help shape strategy, strengthen partnerships, and ensure the charity remains compliant, resilient, and focused on its mission. You will also play a key role in strengthening the charity’s governance and fundraising, which in turn enables the therapeutic delivery carried out by our specialist partner.
A supportive handover will be provided to ensure a smooth and confident transition into the role.
Person Specification
We are looking for someone who brings:
Warmth, clarity and good judgement, with a balanced, proportionate approach to governance.
A genuine commitment to improving the lives of adopted, fostered and kinship care children and an understanding of the challenges faced by families affected by early trauma.
Confidence in chairing discussions, helping the Board reach clear, well‑considered decisions.
An understanding of good governance, including risk, safeguarding and compliance (or a willingness to learn).
The ability to work collaboratively with trustees and our small operational support team, offering encouragement and constructive challenge while supporting the charity’s governance and fundraising role, which enables the specialist delivery work carried out by our partner.
Strategic thinking, with the ability to help shape the charity’s direction and ensure long‑term sustainability.
Reliability, integrity and a calm, steady approach, keeping the charity’s purpose at the centre of decision‑making.
Meets the eligibility requirements to serve as a charity trustee, as set out by the Charity Commission.
Helpful but not essential:
Experience of chairing a board or committee
Experience in charity governance, education, social care, therapeutic work, or community leadership would be helpful, but we are open to a wide range of backgrounds.
Lived or professional experience related to adoption, fostering, trauma or family support.
What We Offer
A warm, committed Board, small operational support team and group of volunteers who work collaboratively and value clear communication.
A meaningful opportunity to shape the future of a small but growing charity with a strong reputation for high‑quality, trauma‑informed support.
Flexible time commitments that fit around work and family life.
A chance to make a tangible difference to adopted, fostered and kinship-care children and young people, and the families who care for them.

What will you be doing?
SPORT 4 SUCCESS is looking for an experienced marketing or social media professional to lead the development of our marketing strategy and improve how we communicate our work.
We are a UK-based charity that uses sport to help young people develop life skills such as teamwork, communication and leadership. We have delivered a growing number of programmes and events, but our marketing and social media have not developed at the same pace as our delivery.
The volunteer will take leadership of our overall marketing direction, with support from trustees and less experienced volunteers who can help with content creation and delivery.
Key responsibilities will include:
This is a strategic and hands-on role. The volunteer will have freedom to shape our approach and test new ideas, while working closely with the charity’s trustees and wider team.
We are looking for someone with at least three years of professional experience in marketing, social media, communications, branding, content strategy or a related area.
The role is unpaid, UK-based and expected to require around two hours per week, with flexibility around when the work is completed.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for someone with at least three years of professional experience in marketing, social media, communications, branding, content strategy or a related field.
The most important requirement is the ability to develop a clear, practical marketing strategy and turn it into consistent activity. You should be comfortable taking ownership of the charity’s marketing direction while working collaboratively with trustees and other volunteers.
Our ideal volunteer will have:
Experience in the charity, education, youth or sports sectors would be useful, but it is not required. Experience supporting a growing organisation, working with volunteers or developing a brand would also be valuable.
You should be creative, reliable and comfortable working within a small team. We are looking for someone who will listen to different perspectives but can also make clear recommendations and lead the marketing approach.
You do not need to produce every piece of content yourself. Other volunteers and team members can support delivery. However, you should be able to set the direction, establish suitable processes and provide constructive guidance.
An interest in helping young people develop their skills and future opportunities through sport and education would be a strong fit with our work.
What difference will you make?
Strong marketing will help SPORT 4 SUCCESS reach more young people, schools, delivery partners, funders and volunteers.
At present, much of our impact happens through our programmes, events and direct relationships, but we do not communicate that impact consistently. This limits our ability to build awareness, attract support and show the value of our work.
Your work would help us create a clearer identity, communicate our purpose more effectively and build a consistent presence across our social media and wider marketing channels.
A stronger strategy would help us:
The role will also help us move away from ad hoc marketing and towards a structured approach that the wider team can follow.
As a small charity, this role would have direct influence. The volunteer’s ideas and recommendations would shape how SPORT 4 SUCCESS presents itself, communicates its work and grows over the next stage of its development.
The result will be a stronger platform for helping more young people build skills, confidence and future opportunities through sport and education.
Before you apply
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to an informal online conversation with members of our trustee team. This will be an opportunity to discuss your experience, learn more about the charity and explore how you would approach the role.
Applications will be reviewed as they are received, and we may arrange conversations before the closing date. We aim to respond to shortlisted applicants within two weeks of receiving their application.

Commitment:
The King’s Trust Mosaic programme is a group mentoring scheme for learners aged 11-18. Mosaic is delivered on-site with school partners and aims to raise learner aspirations, build self-belief, and develop employability skills for young people.
As a volunteer Education Mentor, you'll join a dynamic team to deliver the Mosaic scheme in a local school. Mosaic is structured as 8 mentoring sessions delivered over 8 weeks that will aim to build group rapport and cover essential topics like communication, goal setting and problem solving. These sessions will be delivered with a consistent group of young people, ensuring you can build meaningful connections and see their progress over time. Most Mosaic projects conclude with a ‘World of Work’ visit with a local employer, giving young participants first-hand experience of what it’s really like in a contemporary UK workplace.
We are seeking volunteers in the Leeds area who have a passion and drive to make a difference to the lives of young people.
For success in this role, you will need to be an excellent communicator and confident facilitator of group activities, with a willingness to try out new things in a collaborative environment. An educational background is not required, but a genuine interest in engaging with and developing the skills of young people is essential.
Session content and full support is provided to all volunteers via a King’s Trust Youth Development Lead, who can expertly assist with guidance and materials that will help you to make a significant impact on the lives of young people. Full training will be provided to help set you up for success.
In return for your valuable time, you'll become part of a dedicated community of volunteers. You'll experience the satisfaction of directly impacting the success of young people, many of whom face significant barriers and challenges.
