We work to improve the mental health and wellbeing of all LGBTQ+ people, reduce stigma and make LGBTQ+ mental health a community concern.
With a 110-year history, we are proud to be able to say that the WI continues to be the largest and most influential UK-based women’s organisation, with over 170,000 members. Our campaigns push for change on the issues that matter to women and their communities, from equal pay to climate change, mental health and violence against women. The WI has brought about real change, and this record of action shows that we are as relevant today as we were in 1915.
The National Federation of Women’s Institutes (the NFWI) is responsible for running the organisation and provides support and advice to members at both regional and local levels.
About the role
In this key position, you will shape our online campaigns to improve the lives of women as you create website and social media content and manage community engagement. You can expect different challenges every day: implementing and monitoring advertising, updating digital guidance and training materials, and creating inspiring content that amplifies women’s voices and stories. We will look to you to identify opportunities to create conversations and showcase our members’ achievements, whilst building volunteers’ confidence to make digital contributions, so you will be central to our campaigning presence and mission.
Location: Hybrid, with one day a week at our London office.
About you
A creative and enthusiastic digital storyteller, you will be a true team player with demonstrable ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines. Creating website and social media content should naturally be second nature to you, and you will be fully familiar with creating reports based on analytical data and using a CMS and Google Analytics or similar reporting tools.
Exposure to an Enterprise CMS (Squiz Matrix, Sitecore, Umbraco) and social media tools (such as Sprout Social) would be an advantage, alongside formal certification in digital marketing, social media, analytics, content creation, UX or accessibility. Finally, you will ideally have a basic knowledge of HTML and CSS, some design and video editing skills, and a good understanding of digital advertising tools and campaign optimisation.

Introduction to the Cathedral
Southwark Cathedral has been a place of Christian worship for over 1400 years. Now it stands on the vibrant and exciting regenerated south bank of the Thames surrounded by cultural venues such as Tate Modern, Shakespeare’s Globe and Borough Market, the offices of major companies as well as schools and diverse residential communities. It is an inclusive Christian community that offers a welcome to all.
The Cathedral’s mission, ministry and musical tradition are core to its life as a Cathedral and a parish church serving the community. It also relies on the valuable financial contribution made by its income generating activities such as its shop, café, conference rooms, corporate events and concerts. It is a very busy place, attracting 290,000 visitors a year to the Cathedral, its churchyard and medieval herb garden. The Cathedral relies on a small but dedicated team to be inclusive and welcoming to all.
Southwark Cathedral is committed to being an Equal Opportunities Employer. We believe in promoting and building a diverse and inclusive team, and workplace, culture and governance structures that are welcoming to and respectful of all. We welcome applications from all suitably qualified people whatever their ethnicity, background, age, disability, long term condition, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other characteristic protected by law.
Southwark Cathedral is committed to a culture of safeguarding, especially for children, young people, and vulnerable adults. The Cathedral has adopted the Church of England policy statement ‘Promoting a Safer Church (2017)’; Safeguarding Learning and Development (2024) and the Safer Recruitment and People Management Guidance (2021). Every member of our team is recruited according to these policies and is required to complete safeguarding training.
