The Role
As Interim Head of Business Development, you will provide strategic leadership and hands-on delivery to stabilise and strengthen the Trust’s business development approach. Responsibilities include but are not exhaustive
- Provide visible interim leadership for the Trust’s business development function, setting clear priorities and ways of working, and coordinating contribution from service, operational, clinical and corporate colleagues.
- Develop and maintain a Trust-wide opportunity pipeline (tenders, frameworks, spot-purchase growth, strategic partnerships and other commissioned income routes), including qualification, prioritisation, and clear next steps.
- Lead proactive engagement with commissioners, local authorities, Integrated Care Boards (ICBs), NHS partners and other stakeholders to understand demand, shape specifications where appropriate, and position the Trust effectively.
- Own the end-to-end bid process: establish bid plans, coordinate contributors, draft and quality-assure responses, and ensure submissions are compliant, persuasive, and submitted on time.
- Work with Finance and service leads to ensure all bids and proposals are underpinned by robust costing, pricing, risk assessment and contract terms review; ensure financial viability and appropriate approvals before submission.
- Create and embed a practical bid governance approach (stage-gates, templates, timelines and sign-off), so that bidding is consistent, efficient and auditable.
- Champion the Together Trust’s vision, mission and values, and role model the Trust’s behaviours.
- Commit to promoting equality, diversity and inclusion in how opportunities are developed and how the Trust works with partners.
- Maintain a visible presence across Trust services and corporate teams, balancing hybrid working with on-site engagement as needed.
About You
- Educated to degree level (or equivalent senior leadership experience).
- Evidence of continuing professional development in leadership, commissioning, commercial practice or service transformation
- Significant senior experience in commissioning, business development, service development or strategic partnership working within a public service environment (e.g. local authority, NHS, education, social care, VCFSE).
- Proven track record of developing successful proposals, business cases, tenders or commissioning documentation - including coordinating multiple contributors to deadlines.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, including experience engaging credibly with senior commissioners and partners.
- Good understanding of public sector commissioning and procurement routes, including tendering, frameworks and contract governance.
- Understanding of the importance of safeguarding, quality and regulatory expectations when developing and mobilising services for children, young people and adults.
- Ability to analyse complex problems, identify options and recommend proportionate solutions.
- Full UK driving license with ability to travel across Together Trust locations and to partner/commissioner meetings as required.

We are looking to recruit a Grants and Trusts Fundraiser to join our growing team, as we take Wood Street Mission to the next level. You will be responsible for managing and delivering our Grants and Trusts income stream, developing long-term relationships with funders, and building on our small but successful track record. The Grants and Trusts Fundraiser is a pivotal role in helping us to accelerate our growth even further so we can help more children to thrive free from poverty.
The role is flexible between the office in Manchester and working from home.
Purpose of post
As the Grants and Trusts Fundraiser, you will be responsible for securing grants of varying sizes, translating the charity’s work across our five projects into compelling, high-quality applications for a range of audiences. Working collaboratively with the wider charity team, you will have a hands-on role in understanding our projects to ensure you can authentically convey our mission and our impact to funders.
You will provide excellent care to existing and new supporters, ensuring reporting requirements are met and that funders are kept informed of how their support has enabled the charity to continue its work.
A key responsibility will be to contribute to and develop the Grants and Trusts fundraising plan. You will work to identify, secure and develop a robust pipeline of grant funders to maximise income and enable continued growth and sustainability of Wood Street Mission’s work.
Main duties and responsibilities
1. To contribute to and develop the Grants and Trusts fundraising plan as agreed with the Fundraising Lead, to support the charity’s strategy
2. Meet agreed key performance indicators and to monitor and report on these targets
3. To keep up to date with funding policies and grant giving organisation news to inform the fundraising plan
4. To work closely with the Fundraising Lead and other members of the team to ensure a coordinated approach and excellent level of care for supporters, through appropriate and engaging communication methods
5. To research and develop new funders to support the achievement of fundraising targets
6. Frequently report on progress of Grants and Trusts fundraising to the Fundraising Lead
7. Work with the wider charity team to build a bank of individual stories and information for each of the five projects, to develop a Case for Support which can be adapted to different audiences
8. To work with the Fundraising Lead and the charity team to carry out a Full Cost Recovery exercise across all five projects, to provide a clear overview of the charity’s income and expenditure budget
9. Write comprehensive and persuasive applications to funders and prepare tailored presentations for a range of supporters
10. Build, nurture and account manage relationships with grant giving organisations, providing impact assessments, case studies and progress reports as required
11. Implement an effective stewardship process to maximise income and encourage long-term support, so funders feel appreciated and understand how their support has made an impact
12. Ensure grants are acknowledged promptly and reporting requirements are met within agreed timescales
13. To work alongside colleagues within the charity to identify potential grant funding opportunities and potential cross team working opportunities to ensure the charity maximises income across all income streams
14. Maintain up-to-date and accurate funder and volunteer records on the Beacon database, and to input data, donations and consent preferences, ensuring all data processing is GDPR compliant

The Opportunity
As a key team member within our Partnerships and Income Development team, you will play a vital role in creating, developing and delivering the Social Mobility Foundation’s Employer Programme and Social Mobility Employer Index - how we inform, influence and positively impact employer-led social mobility, and a source of income generation.
1. Delivery of the Social Mobility Employer Index
- Deliver the SMEI 2026, including but not limited to: marking entries, creating individual feedback reports for each entrant, creating sector reports for key industries, and gathering feedback to review and update the survey for 2027
- Maintain accurate and up to date information and process documentation, including the mark scheme used to mark entries, and the process followed to create feedback reports
- Support with the ongoing development of the digital platform, employer resources and online content, ensuring it is updated in line with the survey and delivers a smooth user journey
- Support with the annual monitoring and evaluation of the SMEI and its impact on employer-led social mobility
2. Stakeholder management and customer service

We are seeking an experienced, driven and passionate Head of Philanthropy to lead on delivering income from our High Value (HV) audiences and income streams. We are looking for someone with energy and ambition, who can demonstrate strategic leadership to maximise fundraising opportunities across Major Giving, Trusts and Foundations, Special Events and Corporate Partnerships. The post holder will be a key part of the Fundraising Leadership Team, helping to grow our supporter networks, optimise supporter experience and contributing to the development of the overall fundraising growth strategy, at this crucial stage as we complete the current cycle and move into our new 5-year strategy period in 2027.

You will be part of an ambitious fundraising team driving growth across the portfolio, so we can fund more leukaemia research and save more lives from this devastating disease. Leukaemia UK and You
In 2025 we invested in growing our fundraising team so that we could fund more life-changing research, to increase our understanding of leukemia as a disease, and accelerate the development of kinder, more effective treatments. This included investment to grow the Philanthropy fundraising team, develop new fundraising products, increase our supporter networks, and build a stronger pipeline. As a result, we have seen significant year-on-year growth for a charity of our size and are keen to maintain this trajectory with the opportunities in front of us.
We are in the final year of our current 5-year organisational strategy cycle and in the process of developing our new 5-year fundraising strategy, so you will be instrumental in bridging the gap, delivering against agreed income targets for 2026 and driving forward new plans into 2027.
Reporting to the Director of Fundraising, the post holder will at times be required to work both strategically and operationally, autonomously and collaboratively, as a critical member of the Fundraising Leadership Team. You will be results-driven with an appetite to innovate and drive continuous improvement, leading to increased conversions, deepened relationships, and long-term high value support to upscale our research programme.
Skills and Experience
- Previous experience of being a Head of Philanthropy, demonstrating strategic leadership with a remit that includes oversight of a broad High Value fundraising portfolio, across multiple income streams.
- Experience of applying the principles of Philanthropy fundraising to develop and nurture a growing pipeline of 5- and 6-figure gift opportunities for supporters able to give at the highest levels.
- Experience of managing engaging Major Giving and Trusts & Foundations fundraising programmes to generate a warm pipeline of 5- and 6-figure gifts.
- Experience of overseeing a Special Events programme, comprising both fundraising and cultivation events.
- Experience of overseeing a Corporate partnerships portfolio and representing the charity at a senior level.
- Demonstrable experience of managing a high-performing team, focussing on creating a culture where people thrive as individuals.
- Strong experience of building effective relationships with internal and external partners, senior stakeholders and suppliers, leading on the key relationships for the charity.
- Strong written and oral communication skills with a real talent for connecting and influencing people at all levels.

- High level knowledge of Salesforce CRM and how best to steward supporters.
- High level knowledge and understanding of charity law in relation to legacy fundraising, GDPR, PECR, data protection and other relevant fundraising regulation.
Role specifics

- Location: We are very flexible! Whilst our hybrid working policy is a minimum of two days per month in our London office, for this role we would typically expect the role holder to be in the office once a week.

The Trusts and Foundations Coordinator provides excellent relationship management, creating first-class donor journeys for their portfolio based on donors’ individual motivations and interests. They will ensure stewardship plans are in place for their top tier of T&F donors, and that they meet any specific proposal/reporting requirements for the donors they manage.
The primary aspect of the role is the management of a portfolio of T&Fs, ensuring their continued support of MSF, with a focus on delivering stable and increased income for MSF’s work.

- Coordinate all required logistical aspects of the wish events, including transportation, accommodations, and medical equipment.
- Manage contracts, payments, and schedules with all third-party providers.
- Ensure timely delivery of services and materials.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety and legal requirements.
- Manage and oversee each wish to work within the individual specified budget with accuracy and care.
- Monitor and track all expenditures against individual wish budgets, ensuring all costs are accurately recorded on the Salesforce CRM system and aligned with financial policies, whilst sharing all expenditure with the originating affiliate.
- Identify and implement cost-saving measures without compromising the quality of the wish, negotiating with suppliers to secure the best terms.
- Procure £5,000+ in Gift in Kind income to be utilised on wishes.
- Ensure that each wish is magical and creates maximum impact for the wish child.
- Conduct post-event evaluation through conversations with affiliates and suppliers, to gather feedback and measure success.
- Working with the finance department, accurately and efficiently manage post-wish payments and invoicing to ensure wish costs are settled in a timely manner in line with Make-A-Wish SLAs.
Wish Assist Additional Responsibilities
- Support the Wishgranting Wish Assist Manager with wish forecasting and planning for Wish Assist wishes.
- Upload new Wish Assist requests to our Salesforce CRM system and keep accurate admin and data entry for efficient record keeping and communication between stakeholders in the wish.
- Ensuring all wish records and related data are stored and maintained on Make-A-Wish Information Systems and that all data is managed within set policies and procedures.
- Partake in regular forums regarding Wish Assist delivery with Make-A-Wish International and international colleagues to ensure best practice.
Safeguarding and Data Governance
- Ensure compliance with the organisation’s safeguarding policies.
- Complete mandatory safeguarding training and refreshers, as required.
- Promptly report any concerns or incidents regarding the safety and welfare of participants, particularly children and vulnerable adults, to the Designated Safeguarding Officer.
- Ensure that all wish events are conducted in a safe environment where participants feel secure and protected.
- Ensure all wish records and related data are stored and maintained on Make-A-Wish Information Systems and that all data is managed within set policies and procedures (such as data privacy, liability, consent forms, marketing permissions etc).
Organisational responsibilities
- Within Make-A-Wish's performance & growth framework “Being Brilliant” initiate regular conversations with your line manager when you discuss your role objectives, personal development, wellbeing and other topics
- Complete one Wish Discovery (meeting the wish children and their family to help them explore what their wish could be) and one fundraising event a year
- Attend whole organisation meetings like monthly symposium and townhall as well as ad-hoc training opportunities as required; and as much as possible attend social events happening twice a year.
- Work with your colleagues across the organisation within the framework set in Make-A-Wish Ways of Working
Essential Criteria
- A minimum of 1-year previous experience in roles with a customer service or events management specialism
- Experience in liaising directly with multiple stakeholders
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and administrative skills
- Excellent multitasking and task prioritisation skills
Skills, knowledge and behaviours required for this role
- High level of IT skills particularly in MS Office Suite
- Knowledge of how to keep to a budget and work within financial constraints.
- Experience working within a team environment but also able to work autonomously in a self-motivated way.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to be able to prioritise an ever-changing workload.
- The ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal)
- Strong relationship management and negotiation skills to communicate effectively with our affiliates, suppliers, and stakeholders.
