Topical Talk helps children join inspiring discussions about the news by providing:

Our programme has received international recognition, including from HundrED as one of the top 100 education initiatives, from UNESCO as a winner of the Global Media and Information Literacy Awards 2022 and from the Money And Inclusion Awards (MAIA) for best content in 2025.
THE ROLE
We are seeking a highly organised, agile and structured Senior Programmes Manager to lead the operational planning, project management and execution of our flagship educational programmes. In this fixed-term role you will work closely with our educational content leads, designers and external stakeholders to ensure our high-impact classroom resources and live events are delivered seamlessly, on time and to the highest standard. RESPONSIBILITIES
Project and operational management
- Manage the Topical Talk Leadership for Change Prize, Live Lessons, curriculum modules and student workshops end-to-end: from roadmaps and capacity mapping through to impact and evaluation
- Project manage the filming required for our content delivery, including the booking and management of experts, production teams and Economist colleagues
- Track and coordinate progress across content creators, graphic designers, proofreaders and editors to ensure all deliverables meet tight production deadlines
- Balance team workloads across concurrent educational projects and plan capacity for incoming projects
- Continuously refine workflow processes to streamline resource creation and evaluation

- Proactively identify bottlenecks, content risks or scheduling delays, implementing swift mitigation strategies to keep delivery on track
Live Lesson and workshop operations
- Manage the end-to-end operational execution of student workshops and our Live Lessons – handling scheduling, platform setups and logistics
- Coordinate school visits for content testing and observation, ensuring all safeguarding and operational requirements are fully met
Stakeholder and relationship coordination
- Serve as the primary operational point of contact for external topic experts, guest contributors, and editorial contributors from The Economist Group
- Maintain clear lines of communication between the programmes team, marketing, operations and external partners to ensure projects are aligned with strategic aims
- Manage external freelance contractors and vendors, with support from the administrative officer
SKILLS AND BEHAVIOURS
Whether you come from a project or educational management background or are a leader in charity operations, you possess the following:
- Outstanding ability to build, manage and maintain complex multi-phase project plans with precision and accountability
- A relentless eye for detail, operational rigor, and a knack for creating clean, efficient workflows out of complex tasks
- A proactive, self-starting mindset capable of foreseeing risks, resolving bottlenecks quickly and keeping cross-functional teams moving forward
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills to effectively coordinate across diverse stakeholders – from freelance producers and internal creative teams to senior editors and external experts
- A collaborative nature. You motivate project contributors, keep teams aligned and foster a supportive working environment
- Discipline with deadlines, whereby you act as a dependable anchor for the team, managing requests consistently
EXPERIENCE
You have…
- Proven project management experience where you have demonstrated success in managing content creation, publishing workflows or educational delivery pipelines from conception to completion
- Experience using project management and collaboration platforms to drive team accountability and workflow tracking
- A track record of coordinating multi-disciplinary teams (e.g. writers, designers, subject-matter experts) under tight production schedules
- Experience implementing monitoring, reporting and evaluation frameworks to track project success metrics and user engagement
- Practical experience running hybrid, in-person, or large-scale virtual workshops and webinars
You might have…

- take ownership of the peer review administration process, from sourcing reviewers to tracking deadlines and formatting reports
- work collaboratively with colleagues across the team, providing excellent customer service to authors and reviewers
- help to keep the professional membership organisation's publications running to a high standard at an exciting time for the College.
Peer Review Administration
Most of your time will be spent supporting the peer review process for our practitioner journal. This includes researching and identifying suitable reviewers, matching them to article abstracts and manuscripts, and coordinating the allocation of two reviewers per article. You will send articles out to reviewers with the relevant guidelines, track response deadlines, and follow up as needed. Once reviews are received, you will format the reports to a consistent standard and save them to the shared Google Drive. We currently organise our workflow around Asana and Google Drive, and you'll work closely with the Content Editor to keep the review cycle on track. You will need to be someone who can manage several articles at different stages simultaneously and take pride in keeping things well-organised and on time.
Author support and proofreading
You will spend some of your time on proofreading and editorial tasks, including marking up corrections on PDFs and supporting the Content Editor with copy amendments during the production process. You will also act as a first point of contact for authors, providing clear and friendly communication to support them through the publication process – from submission through to final publication. You will be expected to respond to author queries professionally and promptly, escalating where needed, and to help maintain a positive experience for contributors to the journal.
Wider publishing support
You will spend some of your time supporting wider publishing activity across the College, including uploading and updating content on WordPress and carrying out other publishing-related tasks as and when required. Beyond your core responsibilities, you will also participate in team meetings and be encouraged to take part in professional learning activities and training to maintain and develop your knowledge and skills.
About You
Editorial support for us means keeping our peer review process running efficiently and providing a positive, professional experience for the authors and reviewers who contribute to our journal.
You do not need to have expertise in absolutely all areas, let us decide! We are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive environment and encourage you to apply. We're looking for someone who is motivated by our vision and is passionate about publishing and supporting the work of teachers. - Experience of, or interest in, working in a publishing, editorial or academic environment
- Confidence using Google Drive and online content management systems (e.g. WordPress)

As well as technical requirements, we are looking for people who:
- Believe in the transformative power of education, see teachers as key drivers in achieving improved educational outcomes for all and are motivated to contribute to this change.
- Communicate clearly and effectively, understanding the importance of conveying complex ideas in an easy to understand way and respecting the work schedules and patterns of colleagues.
- Learning and feedback oriented and keen to develop their skillset.
- Are committed to equality and diversity, demonstrating these through their work and daily interactions with colleagues, members and other stakeholders.

Build a community of mathematicians: Help pupils see themselves as mathematicians and feel part of a larger network of like-minded peers supporting each other
Develop in-school connections: Work closely with in-school staff to tailor your maths circle to their school context and to meet pupil needs
Reporting and feedback:
• Report weekly on pupils' attendance and share feedback on curriculum resources so we can keep improving them together
