 Viva LGBTQ+ Lead

Reports to: Strategic Lead

Hours: Full-time (37 hours per week)

Salary: £36,600.00

Contract: Fixed term until 31st March 2028 (subject to continued funding)

Location: Multiple sites across 4 counties in north Wales

Purpose of Role

The Viva LGBTQ+ Lead is responsible for developing and delivering high-quality specialist LGBTQ+ youth work provision across a four-county area. The post-holder will lead the LGBTQ+ team, supervise junior staff, and ensure inclusive, safe, and affirming spaces for LGBTQ+ young people. This role combines direct youth work delivery with team leadership, training provision, and partnership development.

Key Responsibilities

Direct Youth Work Delivery:

● Develop and deliver multiple LGBTQ+ youth groups across 4 counties

● Provide one-to-one support and key working for LGBTQ+ young people

● Deliver programmes and activities as part of the Tŷ Pride Partnership (working to prevent LGBTQ+ homelessness)

● Provide advocacy for LGBTQ+ young people

● Offer family support to families of LGBTQ+ young people

● Facilitate the participation of and co-production with young people

● Apply youth work values and principles in all aspects of the role

● Provide role/possibility model for LGBTQ+ young people

Team Leadership and Supervision:

● Provide line management to LGBTQ+ Youth Work Support Worker and Outreach Worker

● Facilitate reflective supervision for junior staff in the LGBTQ+ team

● Recruit, supervise and support volunteers working with LGBTQ+ provision

● Contribute to organisational planning, staff and volunteer deployment

Training and Development:

● Develop and deliver training on LGBTQ+ and diversity topics to internal staff

● Provide training for external agencies on LGBTQ+ inclusion

● Support training and skills development for young people

Community Engagement and Partnerships:

● Promote and facilitate peer education and youth leadership

● Contribute to community capacity building activities

● Represent the organisation at forums and networks

● Recruit volunteers to support LGBTQ+ provision

Quality Assurance and Accountability:

● Contribute to quality assurance and evaluation of LGBTQ+ provision

● Complete accountability and compliance reports

● Support impact measurement and reporting

● Contribute to communications, media, and marketing activities

Safeguarding:

● Maintain safeguarding duties commensurate with role

● Contribute weekly to Safeguarding Panel

● Participate fully in reflective peer supervision

● Liaison with statutory safeguarding partners where appropriate

● Complete periodic training and awareness as directed

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications:

● Level 6 Youth Work qualification or equivalent (or working towards)

● Qualification or substantial training in LGBTQ+ awareness and inclusion

Essential Experience:

● Substantial experience of youth work with LGBTQ+ young people

● Experience of supervising staff or volunteers

● Experience delivering training to professionals or community groups

● Experience working across multiple sites/locations

● Experience of working with families

Essential Skills:

● Excellent youth work skills including relationship building, group work, and one-to-one support

● Strong understanding of LGBTQ+ identities, issues, and inclusive practice

● Ability to create safe, affirming spaces for LGBTQ+ young people

● Strong communication and interpersonal skills

● Ability to deliver training effectively

● Report writing and evaluation skills

● Access to own transport and willingness to travel across 4 counties

● Willingness to work up to 3 evenings per week an occasional weekends and overnight duties

● Passionate commitment to LGBTQ+ equality and inclusion

● Expert through lived experience

● Ability to work sensitively with young people experiencing marginalisation
