About the role

About the role

As Trusts and Foundations Executive, you will manage a varied portfolio of warm, lapsed and prospective trust and foundation supporters, securing gifts of up to £30,000. You will also manage our regular mailing programme to smaller trusts, coordinating the information and processes needed to deliver high-quality and timely applications.

You will research existing and potential funders and maintain and develop relationships, submitting tailored proposals and reports. By utilising a relationship-led approach, you will communicate with trusts throughout the application and stewardship process, whilst also working with colleagues across Shelter to gather compelling information about our services and campaigns. 

This is a one-year fixed-term role, offering flexible working with regular travel to London and other Shelter locations for meetings when required.

Role specifics

We’re looking for a proactive and organised individual, who can build positive relationships with funders while also managing a busy portfolio of applications, reports and stewardship activity.

You will:

• Manage relationships with an allocated portfolio of warm, lapsed and new trust funders, helping to develop sustainable, long-term partnerships.
• Lead the delivery of Shelter’s Small Trust Mailing, summarising our national and regional work and tailoring communications where appropriate.
• Write persuasive funding proposals, grant reports and updates tailored to the requirements and interests of different funders.
• Acknowledge donations promptly and steward funders between applications to maintain strong relationships with Shelter.
• Monitor and the Trust and Foundations Team email inbox, responding to queries, administering donations and flagging emails with the rest of the team as appropriate.
• Keep accurate records of donor activity and communications using Microsoft Dynamics and other agreed information systems.
• Monitor income and activity against agreed financial and productivity targets.
• Research potential funders and maintain an active pipeline of opportunities, prioritising approaches based on their potential value, likelihood of success and stage of engagement.
• Work with colleagues across services, campaigns, finance and senior management to gather accurate information, budgets, permissions and evidence of impact.
• Arrange and attend meetings and project visits, ensuring colleagues are properly briefed and funders receive an engaging and professional experience.
• Support wider High Value Partnerships projects and Shelter’s Special Events programme when required.

About you

You will be a confident written communicator who can turn detailed information into clear, compelling and tailored funding applications. You will also be comfortable researching new opportunities, managing multiple deadlines and building relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

About the team

The Trusts and Foundations team forms part of High Value Partnerships within Shelter’s Income Generation Directorate.

The team currently consists of eight fundraisers and one Grants Manager, working together to secure funding and develop lasting relationships with trusts and foundations.

Income Generation raises around £40 million each year to support Shelter’s work. You will work closely with colleagues across Trusts and Foundations, Corporate Partnerships, Major Donors, Special Events and Legacies, as well as colleagues in Shelter’s services, campaigns and finance teams.

You will join a supportive and collaborative team that shares knowledge, celebrates the contributions of others and works together to maximise income opportunities for Shelter.

About Pathway Fund

We are the UK's first Black and Ethnic Minoritised (BEM)-led impact investment wholesaler, dedicated to catalysing opportunities for Black and Ethnically Minoritised communities across the UK. Our mission is to address structural inequalities within the UK’s investment ecosystem by providing bespoke and subsidised capital to BEM-led organisations, making it more affordable and accessible to those underserved by existing infrastructure. We act as a funder, convenor, and knowledge builder, bridging gaps between communities, finance, and policymakers to drive systemic change and foster inclusive growth and community wealth building.

Following the receipt of our Dormant Assets funding, we have moved into full delivery mode, with the first wave of Investment Management Organisations (IMOs) already applying. This is a key role for Pathway Fund; the successful candidate will embed existing structures and systems within the organisation while ensuring we remain a learning-led team that constantly strives to improve. Role Summary

The activities of the Programme Manager are key to the deployment of Dormant Assets funding, in alignment with Pathway Fund’s strategy 2026-2029. Reporting to the Head of Programmes, you will act as an operational lead for the Programme team. In this role, you will build upon and embed the existing structures for end-to-end delivery of Pathway’s funding programmes and oversee the effective management of our investment portfolio, ensuring continuous improvement, timely delivery, high-quality outputs, and robust monitoring, evaluation, and learning. This includes the ongoing development of programmes, managing application and selection processes, acting as secretariat for Pathway Fund’s Social Investment Committee, overseeing intermediary contracts, managing stakeholder relationships, monitoring and reporting, and ensuring programme outcomes are met.

Key Functions

Programme Design, Launch and Governance

The Head of Income Generation is a new and important leadership role within Stonewall Housing, created to grow and diversify our voluntary income and support the next stage of our development as a nationwide LGBTQ+ housing and homelessness charity.

• Experience of generating income through a range of corporate opportunities, which may include strategic partnerships, commercial partnerships, corporate giving, Charity of the Year relationships, corporate foundations, sponsorship, employee fundraising or cause-related marketing.

• Experience of developing compelling funding propositions, partnership proposals, applications, pitches or presentations that have successfully generated income.

• Experience of building and maintaining effective relationships with senior stakeholders, funders, corporate partners and other external decision-makers.

• Experience of managing income targets, fundraising pipelines and financial forecasts, with the ability to assess progress, identify risks and prioritise opportunities.

Essential knowledge

• Knowledge and understanding of the causes and effects of homelessness, particularly in relation to LGBTQ+ people, or the ability and commitment to develop this knowledge quickly.

• Strong knowledge of corporate fundraising and partnership development, including current approaches to corporate giving, employee engagement, Charity of the Year partnerships and corporate social impact.

• Understanding of how to identify, cultivate, secure and steward corporate partners and other high-value supporters.

• Understanding of the principles of effective fundraising, including supporter and partner stewardship, relationship management and long-term engagement.

• Knowledge of effective income pipeline management, forecasting and performance monitoring.

• Understanding of the importance of generating sustainable and unrestricted income alongside funding for specific services and projects.

• Understanding of how effective communications, storytelling, evidence and impact reporting support fundraising and partnership development.

• Knowledge of ethical fundraising, due diligence and the importance of developing partnerships that align with an organisation’s mission and values.

• Understanding of equity, diversity and inclusion, and the importance of representing LGBTQ+ people and people with lived experience accurately, respectfully and without tokenism.

• Knowledge of relevant fundraising legislation, regulation and good practice, including the Fundraising Regulator’s Code of Fundraising Practice, data protection and responsible use of supporter information.

· Be able to travel occasionally around the UK for key events.

· To work as part of a mostly-remote team, embracing online communication and collaboration tools.

· To receive regular supervision from the line manager and attend training courses as required.

Stonewall Housing’s core hours are between 10:00 – 16:00 and staff can agree regular working patterns with their line manager.
