Job Title: Deputy Service Manager

Location: Bedford. This service does have step free access.

Salary: £29,500

Shift Pattern: 37.5 hours per week Monday to Sunday on a weekly rota which includes weekends, evenings and bank holidays. You will also take part in our out of hours service for managers.

About the Role

Join and support in leading our brand new Mental Health Service which is due to go live April 2026! The service is a step-down service, which provides short-stay, trauma-informed alternative to hospital admission and facilities. The service forms part of a wider integrated initiative for urgent and emergency care. The team will support our residents who are at risk of admission but can be supported outside of mental health hospital settings, by providing tailored support to them to help them overcome their personal barriers, and achieve their goals, to live more fulfilled lives and independent living. 

In this role, you will support in leading the team by providing overall leadership to the service and line management responsibilities to support, enable, and empower your team to deliver high quality support to our residents. You will support in driving service outcomes in line with contractual requirements, ensuring quality and consistency within a trauma and psychologically informed environment. You will ensure the service runs smoothly in collaboration with the team, wider teams, and external partners. We're looking for someone who is solution focused, has experience within a similar service environment, and can create a safe space for individuals to learn, and grow.

About You

The Friends of Moorfields is a registered charity supporting the patients and staff at Moorfields Eye Hospital, a world centre of excellence for the specialist treatment of eye diseases.

Role Overview

Sitting within the People and People Services directorate, the People and Culture Manager plays a key role in enabling confident, fair leadership across the organisation, particularly in emotionally demanding environments. The role also offers a valuable opportunity to build experience and capability towards senior People and Culture leadership. 

More about the role

As People and Culture Manager, you will provide expert, pragmatic advice across the full range of people matters, acting as a trusted business partner to the People & People Services directorate. You will lead on complex and sensitive casework, coach and develop People and Culture colleagues, and work closely with senior leaders to deliver positive people outcomes. 

As this is a new role, you will have the opportunity to help shape how people services are delivered day to day, contributing to the continuous improvement, credibility, and impact of the People and Culture function. 

You will also contribute to organisational development, culture change, wellbeing initiatives, and workforce planning, using insight and data to identify risks and opportunities. The role supports organisation wide change activity, ensuring that people processes are fair, transparent, and compassionate. 

This role is offered on a hybrid basis, based from our Burford office, with a minimum of two days a week working from the office. You will also be required to travel regularly to other Blue Cross sites to build relationships and provide effective, visible support to managers and teams.

Essential Qualifications, Skills, and Experience 

• CIPD Level 5 or above, or equivalent professional experience 
• Substantial experience in a generalist HR or people role 
• Strong employee relations experience with sound knowledge of UK employment law 
• Proven ability to manage complex and sensitive people issues with empathy and professionalism 
• Strong communication, influencing, coaching, and stakeholder management skills 
• Experience working in a values led, care focused, or emotionally demanding environment 
• The ability to demonstrate and apply Blue Cross values of compassion, courage, and inclusivity 

Desirable Qualifications, Skills, and Experience 

• CIPD Level 7 qualification 
• Experience working in animal welfare, healthcare, social care, or frontline operational environments 
• Experience supporting managers and teams working in emotionally demanding roles

Youth Financial Education Development Lead

Are you passionate about helping young people understand money in helping young people explore how money works and what matters to them? The Just Finance Foundation (JFF) is looking for a Youth Financial Education Development Lead to lead the creation of a core youth financial education offer for 14–18-year-olds. You will design, pilot and refine a train-the-trainer approach that empowers youth workers to deliver learning that is engaging, relevant, and rooted in real life.

You’ll work closely with teams across JFF including Financial Education, Impact & Insights, Communications and Fundraising to develop a programme that is robust, consistent, and adaptable for different audiences, locations, delivery settings and funder requirements. This is a leadership-focused role: you will own the project, guide its development, and shape its impact.

We are looking for a Community Fundraising Manager who will focus on leadership and net income growth of the Community Fundraising (CFR) team, who are based across the UK. The post holder will lead and manage the three regional engagement Officers, taking responsibility in actively supporting them to achieve in their posts. 

To succeed in the role, you will need entrepreneurial thinking as well as being able to collaborate with colleagues across the UK to ensure consistent support for staff and volunteers, ensuring our community fundraising activities are delivered well, in a timely manner whilst always being mindful of the return on investment.  The Community Fundraising Manager will be responsible for the delivery and growth of this area of fundraising and will be expected to meeting annual income targets and ensuring effective budget management.

Experience and Background

You will have a minimum of three years’ experience in Community Fundraising or a similar fundraising role, with experience in leading geographically dispersed teams and driving sustainable income growth within a charity or nonprofit setting. You should have a strong track record in managing and developing staff, ideally having overseen regional or community-based officers, with the ability to motivate, coach, and support individuals to achieve fundraising goals. Experience in community fundraising is essential, including planning and delivering a portfolio of activities, nurturing supporter relationships, and ensuring volunteers receive consistent, high-quality support. The role also requires proven ability in budget management, forecasting, and meeting annual income targets.

Success in this role calls for an entrepreneurial and strategic mindset, capable of identifying new opportunities for income generation while ensuring strong return on investment. The post holder must be highly collaborative, able to work effectively with colleagues across regions to drive alignment and deliver well-coordinated campaigns. Strong organisational and project-management skills are key, enabling the manager to oversee multiple initiatives delivered on time and to a high standard. Ultimately, the role requires a confident leader who can balance creativity with operational excellence, ensuring the community fundraising programme continues to grow and deliver meaningful impact.

Hours of Work

Hours of work are 35 hours per week, 09:00 – 17:00 Monday to Friday.

Salary

The annual salary range for the post is between £35,000 up to £42,000 per annum, depending upon experience.
