At Release, we believe that expert advice can change lives — especially for people who are pushed to the margins by poverty, stigma, criminalisation and complex legal problems. We are looking for a debt adviser who wants to do more than provide technical advice: someone who shares our commitment to social justice, dignity and practical support, and who wants to be part of a specialist legal team working alongside people at the point they need help most.
This is not a traditional debt adviser role. It is an opportunity to help shape a newly established debt unit within our legal team, creating a holistic service that responds to the full reality of people’s lives rather than treating debt in isolation. You will work alongside legal advisers and solicitors delivering free welfare benefits, debt and housing advice through our outreach services, with referrals coming directly from colleagues supporting clients with overlapping legal and financial problems. You will also provide training and support to colleagues and host centre staff, helping build confidence and understanding around debt, its impact, and how to identify when someone may need specialist advice. Many of the people we work with are facing crisis, exclusion and multiple barriers to support. In this role, you will help ensure they are met with compassion, specialist advice and joined-up support that gives them a clearer route forward.
The new Debt Adviser wil join Release’s multidisciplinary legal services team. The postholder will provide high-quality, non-judgmental debt advice to people experiencing financial hardship alongside issues such as substance use, homelessness, poor mental health, benefit problems and social exclusion. Ideally, you’ll be qualified to Level 3 Certificate in Money and Debt Advice, the Certificate in Money Advice Practice (CertMAP), or the CMA Award in Generalist Debt Advice. Should you not have these or equivalent certifications, the appointee would be required and supported to achieve a certification within an agreed timeframe.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver specialist debt advice through direct referrals for our legal team who support clients in trusted community and treatment settings.
- Complete financial assessments, income and expenditure work, debt screening, priority-debt triage and casework using clear, accessible and trauma-informed approaches.
- Advise on appropriate debt options, including Breathing Space, Debt Relief Orders, negotiated write-offs, informal and formal repayment arrangements, and referrals where another provider is better placed to help.
- Work closely with legal advisers, drug and alcohol services, keyworkers, peer advocates, volunteers and partner organisations to support warm referrals and coordinated care.
- Record casework accurately on AdvicePro and contribute to monitoring, evaluation, quality assurance, client feedback and learning from the debt advice project.
Essential Requirements:
- At least 12 months’ experience delivering debt advice in a community, advice, legal or outreach setting.
- Strong understanding of UK debt solutions, priority debts, social security, housing-related debt and the impact of financial hardship on people in vulnerable circumstances.
- Ability to provide clear, fair and not misleading advice, based on a full assessment of the client’s financial and personal circumstances.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write accurate case notes, letters and reports in plain English
- Holidays: 29 days + public holidays
- Location: Hybrid - Spitalfields, London / Remote (minimum 3 days in the office)
- Closing Date: Thursday 17 September 2026 at 5.00pm
- Interviews: Week commencing 28 September 2026
- Start Date: As soon as possible
An enhanced DBS check will be required for the successful candidate.
We particularly welcome applications from people from Black and racialised communities, disabled people, LGBTQ+ people, people from working-class backgrounds, and people with lived experience of the issues we work on. We are committed to building a team that reflects the communities we serve, and we know that lived experience and diverse perspectives strengthen our legal practice and our work for systemic change.
Release is committed to equal opportunities.
Important Notice: For this job, Release will only consider applications from those who already have the right to live and work in the UK. See the Home Office Immigration & Nationality Directorate for information on the UK Government's immigration policy.

Join Our Team and Help Transform Lives!
We are looking for a compassionate and motivated Benefits Adviser to join our Transitions team, providing personalised benefits advice and support to people in their own homes and communities across West Devon and Torridge. You will help people understand and access the benefits they are entitled to, maximise their household income and navigate what can often be complex and challenging benefit processes. Many of the people we support face barriers to accessing mainstream services, so the ability to build trust, listen and provide patient, practical support is at the heart of this role.
We are looking for someone with strong communication and interpersonal skills, a person-centred approach and a genuine commitment to supporting people experiencing vulnerability or financial hardship. Previous benefits advice experience would be an advantage, but we also welcome applications from people with transferable skills and the right values and aptitude to develop in the role. About the Role
Working as part of the Transitions Project, you will provide specialist, person-centred benefits advice to people in their own homes and community settings across West Devon and Torridge.

You will take advice directly to clients, providing the time, flexibility and practical support they need to understand and access their benefit entitlements.
You will complete comprehensive benefit checks, support clients to make and manage claims, identify opportunities to maximise household income and help resolve benefit-related problems. This may include supporting clients with challenging decisions, mandatory reconsiderations and appeals, as well as liaising and advocating with the DWP, local authorities and other agencies.
The role involves regular lone working and travel to clients' homes, so you will need to be confident working independently while remaining closely connected to the wider Transitions team.
This is a rewarding role with the opportunity to make a tangible difference to the financial stability and wellbeing of people who may otherwise struggle to access the support they need.
Our vision is to eliminate social isolation and financial hardship.

Crisis is the national charity for people experiencing homelessness. We have embarked on our 10-year strategy for ending homelessness. We know it is not inevitable. We know together we can end it.
Contract: Fixed term contract - secondment opportunity until 31 March 2027, with the possibility of extension
About the role
CTI is part of a housing-led response to ending homelessness. CTI is an evidence-based model, designed for times of transition for people who require support to navigate often fragmented systems. It uses a time limited case management approach to support people through a period of transition which works towards preventing and ending homelessness.
The model is strictly time limited and prescriptive in its application and Crisis’ CTI pilot will run close to the CTI principles. The timing of movement through the phases is defined by the Programme model.
CTI consists of four main phases:
- Pre CTI: in which the relationship with the client is developed and their goals and ambitions are identified, (no timescale – could be days, months or years)
- Transition: providing support & beginning to connect client to people and agencies that will assume the primary role of support and enable them to meet their goals (3 months)
- Try out: monitoring and strengthening support network and client’s skills (3 months)
- Transfer of care: terminating CTI and stepping right back (3 months)
The post holder will be working within the framework of CTI, supporting prison leavers from prison into accommodation, thus preventing homelessness on release from custody.
About you

Salary: £61,000
Location: London - Hybrid, 2 days per week in office
Contract Type: Permanent
Prospectus are excited to partner with our client in their search for a Head of Campaigns – Landscapes and Land Use. As they enter an exciting new chapter, this newly created role will play a pivotal role in strengthening their campaigning capability and shaping some of the most important national and regional debates about how we use our finite supply of land in joined up, sustainable ways.
Working closely with colleagues across the charity, the charity's England wide network and external partners and allies, you'll help to drive the charity's ambitious campaigning agenda. This role will collaborate with the also newly created Head of Campaigns – Planning and Infrastructure. While each role leads a distinct portfolio, together they will deliver the charity's strategic goals for a more joined-up approach to land, ensuring decisions about housing, infrastructure, food production, nature, climate and landscapes are no longer made in isolation, through campaigns that connect people, influence policy and create lasting change.

Someone who can connect people, ideas and organisations around a shared vision for the future of our landscapes, building the charity's movement and creating pressure for change.
As Head of Campaigns, Landscapes and Land Use, you will lead ambitious national campaigns and policy communications that influence change and help people understand why decisions about all kinds of land use should be better connected and matter, and how they shape the future of the countryside we all depend on.
You will be able to demonstrate significant experience leading public campaigns, advocacy programmes, external affairs or influencing work, with a solid understanding of the political environment surrounding land use. You’ll have experience working with stakeholders, decision-makers and influencers at senior levels, developing strong relationships, with a track record of building partnerships and coalitions that achieve meaningful outcomes. You’ll have excellent strategic thinking and be able to evidence the ability to translate complex issues into compelling public campaigns.
A strong understanding of the policy context within the areas of landscapes, land use, climate, nature, agriculture, or environment is crucial for this role, and we are particularly interested in hearing from candidates with backgrounds in environmental campaigning, climate action, nature recovery, land management, agriculture, or countryside policy.
What you'll be doing
- Leading the charity's landscapes and land use campaigning strategy and delivery at a national level.
- Working across the charity's network to develop impactful campaigns and projects that influence policy, public debate and grow supporter engagement.
- Building external relationships and partnerships with policymakers, politicians, campaign partners, and sector stakeholders to create opportunities for impact.
- Collaborating with fundraising colleagues to develop projects and funding opportunities that demonstrate solutions and strengthen campaigning objectives.
- Acting as a senior spokesperson for the charity in influential external forums, in the media and leading coalition work.
- Leading and developing team members and helping create a collaborative, high-performing culture.
To apply, please submit a CV and cover letter, which outlines your skills, experience and achievements that are relevant to the role.
