Overview

Race Against Dementia is a global charity founded by three-time Formula 1 World Champion Sir Jackie Stewart OBE to find preventions, treatments and cures for dementia – faster.

We fund and support pioneering early-career scientists around the world, giving them the tools, mentoring and Formula 1-inspired mindset to accelerate breakthroughs. From the UK to the USA, Australia to South Africa, our researchers are rethinking how dementia research is done – applying data science, AI and engineering to neuroscience in bold, collaborative ways.

This role sits within Race Against Dementia’s small, dynamic Operations team, who oversee the charity’s research programmes and internal processes. The team is responsible for managing Race Against Dementia’s research portfolio – from coordinating funding calls and supporting the selection of the projects we fund, to delivering the training and development programme for our researchers.

Purpose of the role

The Research Officer plays a central role in delivering Race Against Dementia’s research activity, helping to strengthen our research programmes and support the researchers we fund. The role combines strong organisational skills with clear science communication: coordinating processes, systems and partnerships to ensure smooth delivery, while translating research progress into accessible updates for internal and external audiences.

Duties and Responsibilities

Research administration:

• Manage the administration of all grant calls and related processes.
• Coordinate all incoming communications regarding research matters, ensuring timely, professional responses.
• Maintain team calendars and shared resources to support smooth team operations.
• Set up review sessions with Race Against Dementia Fellows to monitor progress.
• Support preparation of updates and progress reports for charity Trustees, funders and supporters.

The Volunteer & Kitchen Coordinator is responsible for recruiting and supporting volunteers at Catching Lives. This is a pivotal role in the charity which includes recruitment and induction of volunteers; managing the rota to cover shifts; managing food ordering in response to demand and budget; ensuring that the kitchen runs smoothly and meets high standard of hygiene; and communicating daily with volunteer teams.

With 100+ volunteers across the Centre and Bookshop, being Volunteer & Kitchen Coordinator calls for excellent organisational and communication skills, along with the ability to offer a friendly and non-judgemental service to people experiencing homelessness and other issues.

This is a part-time post at 25 hours per week. The working pattern will be agreed with the successful candidate and is normally between 8.30am-4.30pm Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend and evening working.

• Experience of providing services to, and communicating with, a diverse range of people (e.g. customers, service users).

Hygiene poverty is not being able to afford many of the everyday hygiene and personal grooming products most of us take for granted. The reality of low income is that it restricts people’s options, leaving us caught between being able to heat our homes, pay the rent, eat, or be clean.It is washing hair, bodies, faces and clothes in the same cheap washing up liquid used for the dishes. It is not being able to replace a toothbrush when needed or sharing a toothbrush because one each just isn't an option. Hygiene Poverty is the hidden crisis facing the UK. In May 2024, The Hygiene Bank published their second groundbreaking research into the incidence and impact of hygiene poverty. It found that over 4.1 million adults across the country are currently experiencing hygiene poverty and that it is both alarmingly widespread, increasing and disproportionately impacts the most vulnerable. It stops people from participating in society, feeds the mental health crisis and blocks routes out of poverty. It is simply unjust.

About the role 

As our Partnership Officer, you will have the exciting opportunity to make a huge difference in improving the lives of people living in hygiene poverty.

Reporting into the Head of Brand and Corporate Partnerships, the Partnership Officer plays a pivotal role in the brand and corporate team and is responsible for supporting, stewarding, renewing, and growing our brand and corporate partners to meet our income targets and to source donated product for our service users. Our partners range from emerging brands to strategic corporate partners and reflect a combination of financial support, skills-based support, brand donations and volunteering.

The Fundraising Officer will play a key role in the Fundraising and Communications team driving income from Events & Community as well as assisting with wider income generation and supporter care activities.

We are a small but mighy team at Doctors of the World UK. Our vision is of a world in which people affected by war, natural disasters, disease, hunger, poverty, or exclusion get the healthcare they need. As well as running medical programmes across the globe we also support people excluded from healthcare in the UK and advocate for their rights.

We are a small but vastly experienced team of family support/volunteer Coordinators, delivering highly respected volunteer-led home visiting support to families in the early years. 

We are looking for someone to provide direct support to families and also recruit, train and support a team of local parent/carer volunteers who will provide weekly home visiting and community support to families.

You will work  with other professionals from universal and specialist services to provide a coordinated response to families’ needs. You will assess need and risk prior to carefully matching volunteers with families or offering direct support, working as part of multi agency support, ensuring information sharing and safeguarding is at the forefront of your work. This will include instigating Early Help assessments, preparing for and attending Child in Need and Child Protection meetings.

You will have an understanding of recruiting, carefully selecting and managing volunteers to ensure they feel supported and fully trained to offer effective support to families in order to get the best outcomes for the family and in particular the children. 

You will be experienced in working with families in their own home - skilled in recognising and responding to safeguarding concerns, be apt in completing strengths-based assessments and conversations and have a deep understanding of the issues families can face and the link with childhood development and difficulties they may experience later in life.

Evaluation and Research Officer

The Evaluation & Research Officer plays a key role in supporting this by designing and delivering high-quality evaluation and research activity that helps teams learn, improve and demonstrate impact across our programmes.

The Role

We are looking for an Evaluation & Research Officer to join our Data and Impact team at STEM Learning. This role plays a key part in ensuring that our programmes and projects are evaluated effectively, realistically, and in line with best practice, enabling us to demonstrate impact and continuously improve our offer.

Working closely with programme management colleagues, you will design and implement evaluations, ensuring relevant data is collected, analysed and interpreted. You will produce clear, high-quality outputs for both internal and external audiences, supporting learning, accountability, and impact reporting.

You will also contribute to external evaluations, liaising with external evaluators where required, and help embed evidence-informed practice across the organisation. A key part of the role is sourcing, reviewing and synthesising external research and sector evidence to strengthen STEM Learning’s evaluation approaches, findings and impact claims.

• Good knowledge of mixed methods approaches and experience of analysing and interpreting complex datasets.

• Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
• An understanding of, or strong interest in, STEM education, social impact, and evidence-informed practice.

• Willingness to engage in ongoing professional learning and development.
