About Starlight
Starlight is the national charity for children's play in healthcare.
We believe that healthcare should be a more humane and child-centred experience for every child. We work across the UK to champion the importance of play during treatment, care and recovery, supporting children, parents and carers, and healthcare professionals.
Play is integral to children's wellbeing. It can help children experience greater agency, autonomy and control during healthcare, express thoughts and feelings, build resilience and make healthcare settings feel more welcoming and safe. But play is still too often overlooked or treated as an optional extra within children's healthcare.
Our ambition is to end preventable trauma in children's healthcare.
Our new strategy is taking Starlight into an important next phase. We want to build on the expertise, evidence, influence, partnerships and brand positioning we have developed over recent years and use them to create greater impact for children and families.
That means becoming a stronger voice for change: increasing understanding of children's experiences of healthcare, influencing the systems and people who shape children's healthcare, strengthening our relationships with supporters and partners, and communicating with greater clarity, consistency and impact.
Our brand and communications have an increasingly important and broad role to play. We need to tell powerful stories, challenge assumptions, engage people emotionally and intellectually, and make it clear why children's healthcare needs to change.
This is an exciting time to join Starlight and help shape how our purpose, personality and ambition are experienced by the people who matter most.
Our Strategy and the Creative Designer
Our ambition is to influence how children's healthcare is understood and experienced.
To do that successfully, we need communications and creative work that is distinctive, compelling and purposeful. We need to communicate with different audiences in ways that help them feel, understand and ultimately do something differently. As our Creative Designer, you will play an important role in making that happen.
Working as part of the Influence, Insight & Communications team and reporting to the Communications & Brand Manager, you will develop ideas and produce high-quality work across campaigns, fundraising, influencing, digital communications, events and organisational communications.
You will also help to evolve how Starlight looks, feels and expresses itself, ensuring that our creative work is distinctive, consistent and recognisably Starlight.
You will work closely with our Digital Content Creator, who leads the production of channel-native video and social content. You will contribute visual concepts, campaign identities, graphics, storyboards and brand treatments to help this content feel coherent, distinctive and recognisably Starlight.
You will help Starlight make effective use of new creative technologies, including AI, where they can improve efficiency, enable experimentation or extend our creative capability. We want to use technology to help us work smarter and create more, without compromising creative judgement, authenticity or quality.
You will work with colleagues across Starlight and, where appropriate, with external creative specialists to ensure our communications are engaging, accessible, authentic and effective.
Please apply for this role through Charity Job with your CV accompanied by a supporting statement which demonstrates how your experience matches the person specification and highlights your most relevant, recent experience for this role.
**Please include your portfolio, examples of, or links to your work**
In your application, we’d love to hear about what inspires you about Starlight’s purpose, beliefs and values with a statement that is very personal to you and gives us an insight into who you are, and how you would contribute to Starlight’s success with your experience, expertise and approach.
The role will close at 9am on Monday 28th September and we are actively recruiting for this post on a rolling basis.
The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.

We Are Survivors is a survivor-focused voluntary sector organisation that aims to create and facilitate safe spaces for male (including trans and non-binary individuals) survivors of sexual harms across Greater Manchester, providing access to quality-assured support. Our work is focused on developing ways for individuals to empower themselves to work through personal and sometimes painful issues, guided and supported by our trauma-informed team, following the trauma and recovery model.
Our vision is to have “A society where NO male survivor is left behind”
We are looking for an Executive Assistant who can work closely with our CEO and help them make the best use of their time, relationships and influence.
At the heart of this role is our ambition that no male survivor is left behind. You will support the CEO to keep that ambition visible in their day-to-day work, helping them stay focused on the conversations and opportunities that can create meaningful change for male survivors.
This is more than an administrative role. You will help the CEO manage their priorities and prepare for important meetings. You will keep track of commitments, follow up on agreed actions, and ensure the right information is available when needed. There will be times when plans change quickly, so you will need to be comfortable using your judgement and adapting your approach.
You will also help We Are Survivors engage and influence at the local, regional, and national levels. This could involve supporting contact with commissioners or government departments, preparing briefings for meetings, coordinating events and helping the CEO maintain strong relationships across the sector. Your work will help ensure that the experiences of male survivors are heard in the places where decisions are made.
As someone working closely with the CEO, you will often be a first point of contact for people inside and outside the organisation. You will need to be approachable while understanding the importance of confidentiality. You should feel confident managing sensitive information and recognising when something needs the CEO’s immediate attention.
We are looking for someone who is organised and able to take initiative. You will share our commitment to male survivors and understand the difference that thoughtful executive support can make. You do not need to know everything from day one, but you should be curious about our work and motivated by the opportunity to help We Are Survivors extend its reach and impact.
Apply by sending your CV and a short supporting statement.
In your supporting statement, we want you to answer these two questions:
How can your experience support male survivors to thrive?
How do you meet the role profile? Ensure you answer ALL elements in your CV or supporting statement.
For informal queries, contact Jamie Legge, Operations Director.
By applying for any of the above roles, you confirm that you have read and agree to our Privacy Notice.

We have approaching 5000 active members which we hope to grow as we reach out to many more female veterans eligible to join our Association.
You will:
have experience of working in a member or public-facing organisation, supporting and liaising with a diverse cohort of individuals in a wide variety of interests and needs
have experience of managing caseloads and carrying out detailed casework
have a sound knowledge of how individual grants are awarded
have a strong understanding of the work of SSAFA, TRBL & other caseworking and almonising agencies
understand the value of strong communication and be experienced in engaging people from many walks of life, tailoring your communication style to a variety of audiences
be skilled at building positive working relationships, with a friendly and engaging manner
be highly organised with great attention to detail, and work well within a small staff team where each team member is expected to pitch in and work collaboratively
Be engaging and welcoming, able to attend events and interact with members of the public
The charity is governed by a Board of Trustees with a number of sub-committees, all volunteers. We are a small staff team of 5, led by a CEO, who are motivated by the good work we do to support some amazing, brave and pioneering women. We are proud of the work we do to support female veterans, many of whom are now well into retirement. Some have fallen on hard times and need our financial support, whilst others may be lonely or have reduced mobility, and rely on our association to keep them in touch with like-minded comrades.
We are an inclusive employer seeking to attract and employ the best people from the widest talent pool, committed to supporting our staff and the female veterans we serve. All applicants must be able to demonstrate current eligibility to work in the UK.
