Join Dementia UK as our Campaigns Manager and lead national and local influencing campaigns that drive real change in dementia care.

Reporting to the Head of Campaigns, you will design, deliver and evaluate impactful campaigns that put people affected by dementia at the heart of our influencing work. You will set measurable objectives and drive innovative approaches that engage and mobilise diverse audiences.

Susan’s Farm is an energetic organisation delivering a broad range of activities. Our charitable purpose is to transform people’s lives through learning and therapeutic experiences on an organic working livestock farm. After six years as a charity, and following a recent governance and staffing review, we are now seeking to appoint a dedicated managing director to oversee all aspects of the charity’s work. The Managing Director will join a small but committed staff team and report to enthusiastic board of trustees.

Susan’s Farm is based in Houghton, a small village 3 miles from Carlisle and delivers its educational activities on site as well as on the other half of our farm near Armathwaite and for a neighbouring farmer at Aglionby. We have a small learning centre at Houghton and also work closely with Cumbria Wildlife Trust whose Northern office is on land adjacent to our farm.

We have three main strands of delivery; primary school visits, alternative provision placements and care farmer placements and are certified by Social Farms & Gardens. We are a beef and sheep Organic and Pasture for Life certified Farm. We also have hens and geese and some horticultural activity. Our farm produce is sold direct to the customer.

Susan’s Farm is a registered charity converting from a CIC in 2019.   Before that our founder, Susan Aglionby ran educational activities on the farm over a period of more than 20 years. Over the last six years considerable effort has been devoted to professionalising the organisation and our delivery work and we are no ready for the next stage.

ROLE FOCUS: 

To support, manage and provide dynamic leadership to Susan’s Farm and its staff and services. Working with the Board of Trustees to ensure that Susan’s Farm meets its requirements, as a charity in delivering services, and to maintain its reputation as a national and local leader in working to provide services to its beneficiaries through the experience of a farm. To further develop the organisation and the services it offers promoting the charity’s principles.

About the role:

You will be talking to people on the telephone from a variety of different backgrounds, all with different experiences. No two days are the same & you will need to use your communication skills and resilient nature to help those dealing with trauma and the effects of crime, who may have gone through a life-changing experience. Previous experience is not required as you will receive robust training prior to working directly with clients. You will also receive ongoing support to ensure that you can provide victims with quick responses to meet their needs and help them cope and recover.

These roles are based in our Victim Care Unit in Ashford. You will be working shifts Monday to Friday between 8am and 4pm or 12pm and 8pm. Shifts are designated on a rota basis and scheduled well in advance so you can plan ahead. You will be working within a supportive team that is part of a large independent charity which offers the opportunity to develop skills to enhance your ongoing personal development.

The Team

We are a diverse and welcoming team of advisers, who use a wide variety of creative methods to deliver personalised, client centred, personal careers guidance, ranging from one-to-one sessions through to group guidance, parents and options evenings, as well as focused talks and assemblies. We have minimal admin and keep our clients’ experience central to what we do, providing an inclusive service with individualised action plans, including the use of visual career maps, career cards and white boards, alongside more traditional approaches where appropriate.

We follow the CDI code of ethics and best practice for Action Planning (which names and recognises CXKs innovative work in this area):

The team is led by Chris Targett RCDP, who alongside his work at CXK, is the current Chair of the Careers Writers Association and co-author of the recently released Career Development and Inclusive Practice book, published by Trotman Publishing in partnership with the CDI.

The Role

The Careers Adviser will travel across Kent, Medway, West Kent and Mid Kent Regions to a broad range of school and college settings, delivering creative and inclusive Personal Careers Guidance, as well as assemblies and drop-in sessions as required.

Each student and each learning environment will be unique, so the opportunity lends itself well to candidates who enjoy traveling and working in varied locations, meeting people from diverse backgrounds, and educating people of all abilities.

You will routinely liaise with Careers Leaders and senior school/ college staff to arrange and deliver activities for students during the school day. Whilst most delivery will take place between 8:30am and 4pm, travel before and after these times will be required and occasional attendance at parents’ and options evenings will also be required, but you will be given time off in lieu where this is applicable.

We would require you to work five days-a-week, term time only, with a pro rata holiday entitlement. If you would prefer part-time only employment (minimum of three days a week), this can be negotiated.

We are looking for a Shop Manager to lead our team in the Great Baddow shop, you will be working in a creative environment, working with donated goods to maximise sales and net contribution.

You will make a real difference to young people in England by helping to raise the vital funds needed to support our frontline work. You will need to be driven and focused on making money, and have good communication skills both inside and outside the shop, reaching out to the local community to help build support for the shop.

As a Shop Manager you will manage two Assistant Shop Managers along with a team of diverse Volunteers, you will need great people skills and be confident at working with people from different backgrounds creating a welcoming and positive experience for all of our staff, volunteers and supporters.

Media and Communications Lead  

Are you a dedicated communications professional who is motivated, creative and results driven? 

We have an exciting opportunity for a committed and passionate communicator to join our busy media and communications team to make sure the voices of our children, young people and families are heard.    

You'll have great news sense and have a proven track record in developing compelling stories for hard-hitting newspaper articles and broadcast channels.    

You will work collaboratively within Barnardo's media and communications team to promote our life-changing work across the UK and will also be a lead player in raising the profile of our work around children in and leaving care, along with family placement.    

Experience of working in a high profile, fast-paced press office or public relations function is essential. 

You must be able to deliver high quality proactive and reactive communications to promote and protect the profile and reputation of Barnardo's.    

The successful candidate will be required to handle sensitive, confidential issues and work out-of-hours on a duty rota.

The job is largely home based but the successful candidate will be expected to travel to London on a regular basis.

It will assist us in supporting colleagues to belong, thrive and grow in their colleague journey at Barnardo's and in time will offer clear routes of progression for colleagues in both their career and their pay.
