About the team

The WaterAid media team is busy, ambitious, fast paced and fun. We strategically lead on both proactive and reactive media activity engaging with journalists to support WaterAid’s mass engagement campaigns (e.g. campaigning for no mother to give birth without safe water), partnerships (like designing celebrity toilets at Glastonbury, or creating PR campaigns for our Wimbledon Foundation partnership), brand awareness and political influencing.    

About the role

As our Senior Media Officer, your will support the Senior PR manager to deliver the public relations function for WaterAid across digital and traditional media and work closely with the team and other colleagues across our fundraising, partnership and advocacy teams to drive ambitious and sustainable change.  

In this role, you will:

• Develop and deliver innovative integrated, digital-first PR campaigns that achieve impactful national, international, local and digital coverage, to support our fundraising and public engagement activities, build WaterAid’s profile, and align with wider organisational aims   
• Take a project lead on high-profile strategic partnerships to deliver media projects that meet shared objectives and help our partners become influencers in their sector to drive change    
• Work with the Celebrity and Influencer team to develop effective ways to work with high-profile supporters to build awareness of WaterAid and our work  
• Shoot, edit and upload digital content for our digital media outlets including TikTok and YouTube 
• Build and maintain relationships with key journalists and broadcasters including the planning and managing of trips to country programmes with journalists, celebrities or for content gathering  
• Join the 24/7 on-call rota (aprox every 6-8 weeks) and be prepared for travel in the UK and overseas - usually around two weeks per year - as well as some work outside normal office hours, as necessary

Requirements

To be successful, you will need:

• Excellent command of written and verbal English to produce written media work of high quality 

• Proven experience of working in an in-house press office / PR agency or as a journalist 

• Excellent understanding and working knowledge of digital platforms including TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn and Instagram 

• Strong understanding of the UK and global media landscape, with an excellent nose for a story and established relationships with key journalists and media outlets for major UK and global titles. 

• Proven experience of delivering effective and innovative integrated, multi-channel media campaigns with digital media at their core   

• Understanding of how the media can be used as an influencing tool – whether to encourage fundraising and engagement or influence decision makers 

• Ability to forge effective/ strong working relationships within the team and with colleagues from across the organisation 

• Proven ability to prioritise workload and work under pressure independently and as part of a team

• Commitment to personal learning, development and improvement in pursuit of own objectives and those of the team and organisation 

• Commitment to WaterAid’s values and a working style that reflects these

Senior Supervising Social Worker

Location: Homebased - Somerset and Devon. Governance, Meetings and Project Support

· Coordinate governance and committee processes end-to-end including agenda planning, paper preparation, accurate minute taking and tracking actions to completion.

· Support the planning and delivery of team meetings, retreats, and key events.

· Provide project coordination support for strategic initiatives led by the CEDO and the Engagement and Development team.

Other

About the Role

We are seeking a high-performing, experienced, and self-directed compliance professional to provide maternity cover within the Grants, Contracts & Compliance (GCC) department.

This role requires someone who operates with excellence, independence, and sound judgement from day one—a person who is confident navigating complex donor rules, shaping risk‑mitigation strategies, and leading award management processes without needing extensive onboarding. We are seeking an experienced practitioner with proven applied experience, rather than a purely theoretical background.

You will oversee the full lifecycle of European donor‑funded awards, ensuring rigorous contractual and regulatory compliance across Internews. Working closely with colleagues across Programmes, Finance, and Global Development, you will help maintain a culture where doing things right is prioritised over shortcuts.

The ideal candidate brings deep expertise with major European donors (European Commission, Sida, FCDO), a proactive mindset, and the ability to lead, train, and influence teams across the organisation. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, with other duties upon request: 
 

Compliance

· Review and approve proposal budgets for assigned funding opportunities.

· Review donor agreements and ensure terms are acceptable; support the Director of GCC in strengthening organisational risk‑mitigation practices.

· Advise staff on Internews’ internal and donor rules across the project cycle.

· Work with Programme Officers and cross-functional teams on effective project start‑up, including inductions, adapting award procedures/templates, and ongoing staff training; conduct country visits when required.

· Collaborate with Finance to support successful programme audits.

· Maintain and update organisational data on institutional donor platforms (e.g., EU Transparency Register, IATI).

· Develop and maintain training materials and guidelines for at least one major donor; provide expert compliance guidance across GCC.

· Deliver inductions and training for new and junior GCC staff.

· Set up and maintain complete and up‑to‑date award records in line with donor and Internews requirements.

Development

· At proposal stage, review and approve teaming agreements and NDAs with bid partners.

· Review and approve donor budget submissions, ensuring accuracy, consistency, compliance, and adequacy.

· Coordinate pre‑award due diligence for prospective donors.

· Review and negotiate donor agreements and modifications, managing associated risks.

· Establish and maintain proposal, award, and contract records within the award management system, including significant data entry.

Procurement Management

· Advise staff on procurement requirements and maintain internal records for procurements under awards.

· Support development of compliant procurement plans.

· Lead and administer higher‑value procurements, including negotiating contractor terms.

· Draft and execute sub‑contracts and amendments in full compliance with donor and Internews policies.

· Troubleshoot contractual issues, prepare termination notices, and manage related risks.

· Prepare procurement documentation for audits and serve as point of contact for procurement audit processes.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

· Line‑manage GCC staff when assigned.

Salary & Benefits

Salary: £55,000- £60,000 full time equivalent. This role sits within Band C on Global Canopy’s remuneration framework.

Nature of contract: Full time or 0.8 FTE. Permanent. This is a hybrid role working from home and our office in Oxford. There is a requirement to attend the office once a week and for other meetings/work as required.
