Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service is looking for an inspirational and experienced Director of Care to provide strategic, clinical and operational leadership across our medical, clinical and holistic care services.

The role
As Director of Care, you will have overall responsibility for the leadership, management, quality and performance of our care services.
You will:

About you
We are looking for an exceptional clinical leader who combines strategic vision with strong operational management and a genuine passion for children's palliative care.
You will be a registered nurse with significant experience in paediatric palliative care and senior-level leadership experience. You will have a strong understanding of clinical governance, CQC requirements, PSIRF and safeguarding, together with experience of leading service development and change.
You will bring:
- NMC registration as a Children's or Adult Nurse.
- Significant experience of palliative paediatric nursing.
- Senior-level experience of management, strategic thinking and service development.
- Experience of CQC compliance, clinical governance, PSIRF and safeguarding.

Campaigning, policy and public affairs (70%) — lead our influencing strategy alongside the CEO, spot opportunities for systemic change, develop evidence-driven policy positions and briefings, and build relationships with members, politicians, civil servants and stakeholders.

Summary of Role
The Administration function provides high-quality, proactive administrative support across the organisation. Working as part of a small team, the Administration Officer roles ensures efficient coordination, accurate record-keeping, and timely administrative processes that enable departments to operate effectively and collaboratively.
The role is designed to be flexible and responsive, supporting multiple teams at any one time and contributing to a resilient centralised administration model.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide proactive administrative support to multiple allocated teams, ensuring effective coordination, organisation, and timely delivery of activities.
• Coordinate diaries, meetings, and events, including preparing agendas, circulating papers, and recording actions and notes as required.
• Act as a professional first point of contact for internal and external administrative enquiries, managing communication efficiently and escalating where appropriate.
• Prepare, collate, and quality-check papers, reports, and presentations for internal meetings, senior leadership and Association forums.
• Maintain accurate and secure records and filing systems in line with organisational policies, data protection, and information governance requirements.
• Use organisational systems effectively and support departmental compliance with internal policies, controls, and procedures.
• Work collaboratively within the Central Administration team to provide cover, balance workloads, and support wider organisational priorities.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of administrative processes and ways of working across the or Foundation.

About the Role

Location:Remote, with significant travel across all corners the UK and monthly visits to our London office
This is an exciting new opportunity in the Strategic Communications Team at the Foundation.
You’ll play a key role setting up and organising a varied programme of visits, to engage more people in our mission and ultimately help more people in England and Wales to say “I’m in a good place,” “My home is a good place to live,” and “My community is a good place to belong”.
Bringing strong organisational, relationship-building abilities and creativity, you’ll arrange visits for senior stakeholders – MPs, philanthropists, trustees, partners, and executives from Lloyds Banking Group, to community-led groups we’re funding and local areas driving systems change.
Through thoughtful engagement, you'll build lasting relationships and raise awareness of social issues, to ensure visits generate meaningful impact.
You will support colleagues and partners to maximise opportunities, follow up actions, and effectively generate and use content, stories, videos and images to tell powerful stories.
Importantly, you’ll ensure community-led organisations experience these visits as supportive and beneficial, and that their voices are centred in all that occurs and follows, aligning with our mission to foster community-led change.
About You
You are highly organised, with experience coordinating events, or visits involving
multiple stakeholders.
Alongside strong communication skills, with an understanding of how to apply
organisational narratives to local activity, you’ll have the ability to balance competing priorities.
You will bring experience partnering across teams and directorates along with excellent
relational skills to build trust and rapport with internal and external stakeholders.

The Opportunity
ESCIP is a one-year proof of concept designed to strengthen how community experience and VCSE intelligence inform local decision-making. It connects voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations with health, local authority and wider partners, creating stronger two-way feedback between communities and decision-makers.
This is not primarily an administrative post. You will build trusted relationships, coordinate a new quarterly forum, develop practical ways to gather and synthesise intelligence, and demonstrate how insight has influenced priorities and action. Because the programme is new, you will have genuine scope to shape how it works.
What You Will Achieve
Over the first 12 months, you will:
- Establish a quarterly East Surrey VCSE and Community Forum.
- Build trusted relationships with diverse VCSE organisations, including smaller groups and under-represented communities.
- Develop and test practical two-way feedback mechanisms between communities, VCSE partners and system leaders.
- Map intelligence sources and introduce consistent approaches to gathering and synthesising insight.
- Produce concise briefings highlighting emerging themes and implications for decision-makers.
- Maintain strategic relationships across health, local government, housing and neighbourhood partners.
- Support independent evaluation and contribute to the case for Year 2.
Main Responsibilities
Partnerships and Networks
- Coordinate day-to-day delivery of ESCIP, maintaining workplans, milestones and actions.
- Plan and support the quarterly East Surrey VCSE and Community Forum.
- Develop strong relationships across the VCSE sector and with NHS, local authority, housing, primary care and neighbourhood partners.
- Maintain wider partner engagement through targeted conversations, briefings and limited observer participation.
- Represent ESCIP professionally and act as a key point of contact.
Engagement and Community Insight
- Plan and deliver insight activity, including stakeholder conversations, workshops, surveys, desk research and analysis.
- Enable organisations of different sizes and capacities to contribute, particularly voices less often heard.
- Map existing intelligence sources, identify gaps and common themes, and distinguish between individual feedback, recurring themes and wider evidence.
Communication, Influence and Learning
- Turn qualitative and quantitative information into accessible summaries, briefings and recommendations.
- Create visible feedback loops so contributors understand what was heard and what happened next.
- Prepare stakeholder briefings and contribute to programme and funder reporting.
- Work with the independent evaluator and contribute learning to the future development of ESCIP.
Working Arrangements
This is a part-time role based in Oxted with autonomy and variety. Some meetings and community activity will take place across East Surrey, so the postholder must be able to travel within the area. Reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed.
Occasional evening activity may be required by prior agreement, with time off in lieu. The postholder will work closely with colleagues from VASE and CSVA and will have access to office space, HR support and appropriate IT equipment.

Experience, Knowledge and Skills
Essential
- Experience building productive relationships across organisations, sectors or communities.

- Ability to translate complex information into clear reports, briefings and recommendations.
- Ability to organise projects or programmes, manage competing priorities and deliver outcomes with limited supervision.
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, including confidence engaging senior stakeholders.
- Commitment to equitable and inclusive engagement, with an understanding of barriers faced by smaller organisations and under-represented communities.
- Confidence using standard digital tools for collaboration, data analysis, presentations and record-keeping.
Desirable
- Knowledge of the VCSE sector in East Surrey or a comparable area.
- Understanding of health inequalities, neighbourhood working, integrated care or local government.
- Experience of monitoring and evaluation, research methods or funder reporting.
