Job description

The Role

This is a fantastic opportunity to join the Law Society's busy press team as a Junior Press Officer, helping to shape the media environment for solicitors and law firms across England and Wales. Working at the heart of a high-profile communications function, you will support the delivery of proactive and reactive media activity, helping to raise the profile of the Law Society and promote its work on behalf of members.

You will work closely with colleagues across Communications, Policy, International and Public Affairs to translate complex legal and policy issues into clear, engaging content for a range of audiences. You will help develop media materials, draft press releases, prepare briefing documents and support the delivery of impactful communications campaigns. The role will also involve building relationships with journalists, responding to media requests and helping to ensure that the Law Society's voice is represented accurately and effectively in the media.

You will monitor media coverage and developments across the legal, political and policy landscape, identifying opportunities and risks that could affect the profession. You'll also provide support for press events, media briefings and campaign activity, playing an important role in the day-to-day running of a busy and fast-paced press office. The role will also involve producing news summaries, maintaining media monitoring reports, updating press contact lists and supporting the smooth administration of the press office.

This is an exciting and varied opportunity for an ambitious communicator looking to build a career in media relations. You will gain valuable experience working on high-profile issues affecting the legal profession, while helping to enhance the Law Society's influence, visibility and reputation.

You will also have the ability to identify opportunities for media coverage and contribute creative ideas that support communications objectives.
  • You will have strong organisational skills and be capable of prioritising a busy workload with minimal supervision. You will be able to work effectively under pressure, manage multiple deadlines and respond quickly to breaking news and emerging issues.
  • You will demonstrate sound judgement, attention to detail and an understanding of the wider reputational impact of communications activity. A proactive and positive approach, together with a commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, will be essential to success in the role.
