Main purpose of the role

To provide telephone friendship service to veterans (and their partners) in their own homes.

Key focus

• To provide telephone friendship and companionship which is appropriate, and person centred. You will need the use of your own telephone /mobile.
• The use of a quiet safe space so you can concentrate on the call and maintain confidentiality.
• Provide telephone support to alleviate loneliness and social isolation and help to build confidence.
• Report any concerns or problems to the volunteer coordinator immediately.
• To record information about the call on the telephone log and submit this monthly.
• Read and understand the information provided as part of the induction training.
• Understand and work to the Telephone Friendship Service guidelines, boundaries and expectations.
• Adhere to Royal Star & Garter confidentiality policy.
• To take care of own Health & Safety and that of others affected by your volunteering activities.
• Promote the reputation, culture and ethos of the charity as a quality provider of excellent care and customer service.

Time commitment

Minimum of 1 hour per week. There is no time limit on the length of service, but Telephone Friends are asked to make a commitment for a minimum of 12 months.

Essential skills and attributes 

It is essential that you are a naturally caring character that always puts people first, shows kindness, warmth, compassion and respect at all times, and loves to embrace life to make it meaningful for yourself and those you support. Others include:

• You are aware of the needs of older people

We are also looking for people who are willing to undertake induction and training and who will work within our guidelines and policies. The role is dependent on a DBS check.

Other information you need to know

This is a remote role, and you will be required to attend online induction training.

You will need access to a phone to make calls and access to emails to receive information regarding your calls.

Overview
We are seeking a proactive and innovative Digital Champion Volunteer to join our dynamic team. This role is pivotal in enhancing our online presence and driving our digital marketing initiatives. Could you make a difference as a volunteer Digital Champion?

We are looking for people with a good understanding of how to use computers,

smart phones and tablets to give peer support to people who are new to these

devices. You will help them to do things like:

• use Google

• set up an email account

You need a good level of basic computer skills, but you don't have to be an IT

genius. Much more important is having enthusiasm and patience to spend some

time helping others to get online.

The HMSA is a small and dynamic charity that helps those living with hypermobility syndromes (and carers and families) to be independent and live well. We also provide education for professionals in social care, health, teaching and local authority employees. We have big plans to expand our offer to our members and professionals, as well as raise the profile of the charity and hypermobility syndromes.  We are seeking to appoint up to 2 new trustees.  Recognising that most people with these conditions present and are supported in primary care, we are particularly keen to recruit someone with a background in Primary Care to help us develop our plans. We are also interested to hear from anyone with experience of strengthening social media channels and comms, especially within a small charity setting.

 The Trustee role involves:

•  Preparing for and attending quarterly board meetings – 2 hours in the evening or a half day on a Saturday (half online/half in person if possible). The in person meetings are likely to be in central London.
• Providing support/guidance to the other Trustees, the CEO as well as staff/volunteer team. This may include small group working in between Board meetings.
• You may also be asked to participate in sub-committees as required.
• Developing and supporting our Clinical Advisory Group and/or Comms work
• Promoting the HMSA to primary care and other health and social care professionals or other relevant external audiences.

We are looking for a new on-line counselor to join our organisation. This will mean running an email service and even a Skype / zoom service if you wish.

What is the Access Advisory Group?

We want to be able to share the Royal Air Force (RAF) story with everyone, including those living with all kinds of disability, visible or hidden. Our Access Advisory Group is a group of volunteers who meet to support and advise the RAF Museum to ensure access for all. Examples of previous areas of group input include new exhibitions to commemorate the centenary of the RAF and the access information available on our website.

What will I be doing?

• Attending meetings a few times a year, which you can opt to attend either online or on site,

• Giving the Museum your opinion and advice on matters relating to access,

• Contributing to tangible improvements and changes at RAF Museum London.

This role is perfect for you if you…

• Live/have lived with a disability or have an understanding of living with a disability, or live with dementia or are supporting/have supported someone living with dementia,

• Have an interest in museums and a commitment to making museums accessible,

• Have the ability and willingness to use your experience to help us improve access throughout the Museum,

• Are committed to attending three meetings per year either online or at the RAF Museum in Hendon.

How much time would I need to commit?

The group meets three times per year (on dates agreed in advance). You can opt to attend on site or online. Meetings last for approximately two hours and are usually held during Museum opening times (10am – 5pm). We may also send occasional emails asking for advice and opinions.

It is expected that the next meeting will take place in mid to late June 2024. Generally meetings are held every four months. Our address in London is Grahame Park Way, NW9 5LL.

We are looking for volunteers who can meet with our clients in and around Central London on a regular weekly or fortnightly basis for at least six months, longer if possible. 

Your meetings might involve sitting and chatting in our clients home or going out together, for a walk, a talk in a coffee shop,  for a wonder around the shops, or even visiting places of interest, museums for example.

Our clients are older 1st and 2nd generation Scots living in London who are lonely or socially isolated, and would benefit from regular companionship. Our service works across London, currently, we have clients waiting in Islington, Camden, Tulse Hill,  Brockwell, Putney and other areas. 

We provide training before you start, ongoing support once you are matched, out of pocket expenses, references, social events newsletters and more! 

Giving someone who is lonely, socially isolated, or needs someone to venture out with,the simple gift of time and companionship could make the world of difference to their emotional and physical wellbeing,   As one of our Buddies said recently, “this is an easy, very meaningful way to help someone and is immensely rewarding and fun!”

IJAD is a dance company working at the intersection of performing arts and technology and we’re looking for volunteers to help us with our upcoming live/hybrid festival at Riverside Studios Hammersmith, OOTFest25 (UN)SEEN. 

About OOTFest: OOTFest is a festival of live/hybrid performances, workshops, expert panel discussions and installations that will take you to unchartered new worlds via digital-immersive technologies. It celebrates artists who take risks, embrace uncertainty and push the boundaries of what’s possible.

This year’s OOTFest will take place in-person at Riverside Studios, Hammersmith and online via the Open Online Theatre platform, 5-8 June 2025.

We’re looking for volunteers to help out in-person at Riverside Studios. Each shift will be varied and we’re looking for volunteers to: 

• Take photos and videos for social media, alongside the official photographer
• Create high-quality content for IJAD’s social media channels
• Post content on IJAD’s social media channels throughout the festival
• Assist the festival artists 
• Greet attendees and answer queries
• Direct attendees around the venue
• Help with setting up and packing down

What will be required from you?

Our main goal is to ensure a positive experience for all volunteers and we can be flexible with timings, however we would particularly love to hear from those who are able to commit to volunteering for multiple (3-4hr) shifts over the course of the festival. 

You will be required to attend an online briefing in advance of the festival, as well as in-person induction at Riverside Studios (w/c 2 June).

Support, guidance and keeping you safe

At Cats Protection we believe our volunteers should be happy and confident in their roles. We provide support and guidance from our National Cat Centre and through our regional and local volunteer groups and teams. We offer engaging online and face-to-face training, expenses and have policies and processes to help volunteers get the most out of their time with us.

The wellbeing of our people is important and at Cats Protection we are committed to safeguarding children, adults at risk and all those that we come into contact with as part of our activities.
