The Charity
James’ Place works to save the lives of men in suicidal crisis. We are a charity offering free, life-saving therapy to suicidal men at our centres in Liverpool, London and Newcastle.
James’ Place was set up by Clare Milford Haven and Nick Wentworth-Stanley in 2008 after their twenty-one-year-old son, James, died by suicide ten days after a minor operation. James had no history of mental illness or depression and had sought urgent help for anxiety and suicidal thoughts, but didn’t find it.
James' Place was set up to make the experience of finding help as easy as possible. We offer men who are experiencing a suicidal crisis a brief, intensive, therapeutic intervention in a safe environment. Men who walk through the door at James’ Place will be in a space where they feel valued and respected. We provide a calm and peaceful environment both inside the centres and in our outside spaces, accessible to men who visit us as well as their friends and families. The first James’ Place opened in June 2018 in Liverpool, the first of its kind in the UK. In 2022 we opened a new centre in London and in early in 2023 we launched an appeal to raise over £10m to fund three more centres across the country. Our third centre opened in Newcastle at the beginning of 2024, and we are currently raising funds to open a James’ Place in Birmingham. We have treated over 3,600 men in suicidal crisis to date.
The opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity to join our administration team during a time of growth and development across the charity. The successful candidate will take a key role in ensuring our operations and administration processes run as smoothly and efficiently as possible through central administration cover and project work.
Person Specification
You will be joining a small, dedicated, administration team at James’ Place and will regularly connect with the wider clinical and management teams. Whilst based within our London centre, your work will cross-cover all our centres and teams. This role requires someone with both excellent organisational and people skills with the ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing, with a range of stakeholders including men in distress. Your administration skills will be vital, and you will be able to work with a broad range of IT, including shared Outlook inboxes and calendars. You will feel comfortable using the full Office 365 suite and have the necessary organisation skills to maintain the highest standards of record keeping. You will support the wider teams to deliver our effective intervention, therefore an ability to work collaboratively is essential. You will be able to work proactively and have a high level of attention to detail.

Principal accountabilities of the role
Central Administration
· Covering daily administrative tasks and duties across all centres including:
· Being the first point of contact for referrers and men in distress, greeting visitors, answering the phone, booking appointments, and responding to email enquiries.
· Dealing with enquiries over email and telephone, scheduling/amending appointments and taking messages as required.
· Speaking to men in distress who have contacted the centre and, where appropriate, taking self-referrals over the phone.
· Processing referrals and maintaining accurate records at all times in line with our administrative procedures.
· Supporting users of the service to access information about other agencies.
· Maintaining a safe and tidy environment in all areas of the centre and monitoring/replenishing stocks.
· Completing electronic filing, shredding, and general office admin.
· Providing admin support to the wider team as required e.g. recording and sharing meeting minutes.
· Maintaining an effective appointment system ensuring all the resources at James’ Place are used efficiently.
· Recording and collating data to support the effective evaluation and monitoring of James’ Place.
· Providing occasional administrative support to the Centre Managers, Heads of Centre, and the Senior Management Team.
· Treating every person who contacts us with respect and offering them support in line with our values, policies, and procedures.
· Following Health and Safety procedures around safety alarms, security, heating, lighting, electrical equipment, and lone working.

About the role

The role of Case Worker - County Lines is an excellent opportunity to provide one-to-one tailored support to young people, working collaboratively as part of a multi-agency team, to ensure the safety of young people, and maximise their outcomes. Tailoring support to each young person's individual needs and circumstances, our case workers work as part of the Home Office-funded County Lines Support and Rescue Service.

Main Duties and Accountabilities
Providing appropriate end to end support, and interventions, to a pre-defined caseload of young people, and their families, who are involved in County Lines activity – young people are referred by means of effective assessment, care planning, and risk management.
Proactively and continually assessing and managing caseload risks, escalating where necessary through internal and external safeguarding procedures, and adapting case management frequency and methodology to reflect individual needs and circumstances.
Ensuring that the diverse needs and aspirations of all groups of service users are considered in service planning and delivery, to enable all service users to fulfil their potential.
Liaising effectively with local partner organisations, and other relevant agencies, to ensure effective referrals, care, risk management, and ease of transition and referral, for young people.
Promoting the continued joint work of the service, and other partners, acting as a sub-regional or district single point of contact, where required.
Qualifications
Experience of working with young people (18-25) and their families, identified as vulnerable or having complex needs, preferably in a community setting.
Experience of inter-agency working, preferably with Children's and Family Services/Youth Justice Services/Youth Services.
Knowledge of issues around risk and vulnerability amongst young people.
Good ICT skills, with experience of using data recording and data collation systems.

Bishop's House is the residence of the Bishop of Chester and his family. The garden at Bishop's House extends to about half an acre, and is mainly laid to shrubs and lawn, with a herbaceous border and some climbing plants. The Bishop's House and gardens are used for hosting many events throughout the year.
About the Bishop
Mark Tanner has served as the Bishop of Chester since 2020. Prior to coming to Chester, Mark was Bishop of Berwick in the Diocese of Newcastle, following a number of years as Warden of Cranmer Hall, training church leaders and others. Mark has served in local churches in Ripon, Doncaster, Coventry, and on the Wirral, and done various forms of chaplaincy, including school and the Army.
What you'll be doing
The postholder will have no line managerial duties but will coordinate with various external bodies (e.g. tree surgeons) in collaboration with site managers. This includes upkeep and proactive management of the garden and curtilage of Bishop's House, including boundary fences, including the following responsibilities:
- General gardening tasks, including but not limited to mowing grass, hedge-trimming, pruning, weeding, planting and lawn care.
- Working in partnership with the Bishop, independently and under direction, to develop the garden space as desired.
- Assisting with functions at Bishop's House, both in the gardens and in official rooms. This may involve setting out furniture, helping to serve refreshments and such general duties as may arise.
Key role requirements:
- Qualification in gardening/horticulture or equivalent
- Full, clean driving licence and access to a car

About the role
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing donor data within the ThankQ CRM system, reconciling income with the support of the finance and fundraising team, and providing exceptional supporter care through timely and personalised communications. University Access Officers are responsible for delivering The Access Project’s high impact mentoring programme to students across our partner schools. This role works with a caseload of students supporting them from the start of Year 12 up to the end of Year 13 to understand the pathway to a top university.

Mentoring - Work directly with young people by mentoring a caseload of students in a professional and safe manner:
- Deliver our University Readiness programme through in-depth, targeted 1:1 mentoring sessions with Year 12 and Year 13 students
- Assess student progress towards being able to make successful university applications.
- Support Year 12 and 13 students to complete self-paced learning modules on our dedicated platform, The Access Hub, delivering interventions where necessary.
- Use knowledge and information gathered through mentoring students to flag potential issues within volunteer/student interactions so that appropriate quality assurance can be conducted.
- Deliver high quality and informative assemblies to students across KS3 and 4 – introducing them to the power of mentoring, de-mystifying the path to university and building their motivation to succeed.
- Support partner schools with trip logistics, acting in a leadership position when accompanying students on school trips.
- Direct enrolled students to appropriate wider enrichment opportunities, encouraging both extra and super-curricular participation and reflection.
Project coordination and management:
- Support partner school with recruitment of students, leading on the enrolment and induction of selected eligible students to ensure that The Access Project has fully enrolled and engaged cohorts.
- Lead on student facing communications by collaborating with the wider delivery team to case manage students on the programme. This could mean acting as point of consultation for pairing students with coaches/tutors or coming up with solutions when students are not engaging across the whole programme.
- Support the tuition and coaching team in driving student attendance at volunteer sessions (coaching and tuition), including acting as a point of escalation through mentoring and liaising with schools to make decisions/actions to offboard/replace students if deemed necessary.
- Lead quality assurance of coaching pairings completing a caseload of drop ins.
- Send regular summary updates to school as their key point of contact. Work with school staff to ensure their cooperation and timely completion of activities contributing to the smooth running of the programme.
- Upload information onto the Salesforce database in a timely manner (training is provided).
- Support with creation of school reports and present at school meetings with Managers to report on programme progress.
- Support the wider team by attending university site visits which take place on occasional Saturdays and weekday evenings (paid time off is provided).
- Participate in working groups, programme design and annual reviews to drive continuous improvement.
- Any other responsibilities reasonably deemed necessary by The Access Project.

Training and Development
You will be provided with regular monthly training so that you can develop your skills and succeed in the role. There is support from your line manager (Programme Manager), as well as guidance from more senior University Access Officers and the wider University Access Officer team across The Access Project. There are opportunities for progression, including several additional responsibility roles which are available for UAOs to apply for once they have completed their probationary period successfully.
