We have agreed campaign priorities; successfully changed policy at a London-wide and borough level; and adapted our finance, HR and IT systems to better support a campaigning charity.
Who we're looking for
We are looking for a candidate to cover our CEO’s maternity leave from the end of May 2024 until the middle of February 2025 to oversee the continued delivery of the charity's current strategy. This includes securing policy changes in our current campaign priority areas of digital inclusion, public toilet provision and poverty amongst older Londoners; supporting the development of new campaigns; and establishing systems to increase our financial sustainability.

About the role
As News and Media Manager, you will lead a hard-working and experienced team of media experts to bring to life Crisis’ work, demonstrate the solutions needed to tackle homelessness and inspire the public and politicians to join our mission to end it for good. You will oversee the development and delivery of high-profile media and communications campaigns, including our annual Christmas appeal, helping to build our brand. This is a fixed term role covering a secondment in the team, and with an upcoming general election, this is an exciting time take up the role for the next 10 months.
About you
You will have significant experience of working in a challenging, fast-paced news and media environment to secure high-profile coverage and championing the voices of marginalised people. Experience and knowledge of managing and influencing senior internal and external stakeholders is essential in this role, as is the ability to navigate competing priorities to develop and implement creative media strategies that reach a diverse range of audiences.
To be successful in this role, you will be able to demonstrate excellent knowledge and experience of working with the media to help secure policy change at a national government level, outstanding people and project management skills and proven experience when it comes to handling reputational risk. You will also have exceptional news sense, with the ability to take a creative approach when seeking out new media opportunities.

Hope for the Young is on a mission to remove the obstacles to young refugees and asylum-seeker’s education and well-being through a bespoke package of one-to-one mentoring, advocacy, and financial support.
Founded in 2008, Hope for the Young has grown from a small grant-making charity led by its Trustees to an organisation that, last year, worked closely alongside 135 young people, with 11 staff members, and 150 dedicated volunteer mentors.

About the Role
As our Fundraising and Communications Manager, you will play a pivotal role in advancing our mission and expanding our impact so that more young refugees can access the education and one-to-one support they need to rebuild their lives in the UK. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced senior communications and media professional to lead International Alert’s global Communications team.
We are hiring this role at a pivotal time for Alert, as we implement our new organisational strategy. The postholder will have a unique opportunity to lead delivery of our global communications strategy, supporting the delivery of our organisational objectives and ensuring we maximise our peacebuilding impact.
The role will work in close collaboration with our country, regional and policy teams to deliver high-quality, impactful communications about peacebuilding in the places we work and on key topics such as the climate crisis, women’s and LGBT+ inclusion, and conflict-sensitive investment, centering the voices of the people and partners with whom we work.
You’ll be an excellent communicator and strategic thinker, with experience of delivery of communications across a range of channels and media. You will be responsible for driving up Alert’s visibility and profile and maintaining relationships with journalists, bringing with you good knowledge of the media landscape and excellent contacts.
You’ll have great interpersonal skills, able to work with people inside and outside the organisation across a range of geographies and backgrounds. You’ll be comfortable advising senior leadership within Alert and adept at identifying opportunities to raise Alert’s profile. You’ll be a good people manager, able to lead and motivate a team, and have experience of managing budgets.
Role duties and responsibilities:
Strategy and planning
- Develop and implement a three year communications strategy for Alert, in line with the organisational strategy, ensuring consultation and collaboration with Alert’s global and country teams
- Work closely with country teams to support the development of in-country communications strategies, ensuring regular co-ordination with country level communications colleagues
- Set clear objectives and KPIs for Alert’s communications work, developing robust frameworks for monitoring and reporting, and linking these to delivery of the communications strategy
Media relations
- Develop and deliver a media strategy, in line with Alert’s programme priorities, influencing and funding strategies;
- Lead on cultivating new and foster existing relations with key contacts in the media, building Alert’s credibility and ensuring effective working relationships with journalists;
- Lead on delivery of media strategy for discrete projects, developing plans, drafting key messages and press releases, identifying and working with target journalists and setting parameters for success.
- Lead on Alert’s response to breaking news stories and events, working with senior staff to develop appropriate responses

- Lead a brand review for Alert in line with the new organisational strategy, including robust audience testing

Events and outreach

- Ensure that all Alert outputs are disseminated successfully, using different media and messages to reach out to and engage different target audiences, and that dissemination strategies and budgets are set for each output.
Digital communications
- Support the Senior Digital Engagement Officer to develop an annual content plan that reflects the requirements of the strategy and delivers against its objectives
- Maintain understanding of and engagement with the latest digital trends and approaches, ensuring Alert is compliant with relevant regulations
- Oversee the development of a digital plan and ensure it contributes to Alert’s programme priorities, influencing and funding strategies;

Programmatic communications

The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust offers a hybrid working pattern, with an expectation of working from their Chelsea office 2 days per week, and travel to Sutton as required.
The Publications and Communications Officer will play a key role in helping the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity achieve its objectives. You will help raise awareness of the Charity within the hospital as well as locally, nationally, and internationally by demonstrating the difference the Charity makes to people affected by cancer, and support fundraising teams across all its income streams to attract and retain supporters. You will work directly with the hospital’s world leading clinicians to secure clinical spokespeople for the Charity’s communications and to help tell the story of how the Charity helps to save and improve the lives of people with cancer, not just at The Royal Marsden, but nationally and internationally.
Key Responsibilities:
· Build relationships with clinical colleagues and in particular, Charity-funded consultants, nurses, researchers, and allied health professionals to gain their support for Charity communications including press releases, tailored pitches, our suite of magazines, and other print media channels.
· Write and edit the Charity’s bi-monthly e-newsletter in collaboration with the wider PR and Comms team, and the Charity’s Marketing and Digital team.
· With support from the Senior PR and Communications Officer, write and edit the Charity’s supporter magazine Progress in collaboration with the wider Communications team and the Charity’s Heads and Associate Directors.
· In collaboration with the Trust Internal Communications Manager, promote The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity to 4,500 hospital staff, to help drive greater awareness of the Charity and its work across the hospital.
· Support the Senior PR and Communications Officer in advising on PR and communications for the Charity’s corporate partners, including liaising with external PR agencies and partners’ in-house teams.
· Working alongside the Senior PR and Communications Officer, identify and maximise opportunities to promote the Charity’s funding of life-saving research, modern patient environments and state-of-the-art equipment in the hospital, working closely with colleagues to ensure any Charity funding is appropriately referenced.
Person Specification:
· Relevant media relations / copy writing / communications experience – former employment with a charity, ideally within the healthcare sector.
· Proven track record of delivering beautifully written, compelling copy across all online and offline channels, in the right tone and to deadline.
· Experience of working across multi-disciplinary teams encompassing all communications channels - social media, traditional and third sector media, internal communications.
· Excellent communications skills both verbal and written – including editing, proofing, copy writing and interview techniques.
· Ability to manage multiple priorities at any one time whilst remaining calm under pressure, and able to combine a proactive approach with quick reactive delivery.

JOB SUMMARY
- Defines and leads the Charity’s strategies for income development and growth, through a mix of traditional fundraising and marketing, as well as new initiatives;

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides leadership for all fundraising, income development and marketing activity within the Charity by:
Staffing:
- Providing leadership and direct line management support to Assistant Directors and Seniors within the Income Growth & Development team
- Leading and developing a team of experienced fundraisers and the marketing lead, to sustain, develop and grow a range of fundraising, marketing and other initiatives to maximise income from new and existing sources.
Planning and Management
- Implementing and executing the annual Fundraising, Business Development and Marketing Plans to meet targets. Prepare and presents regular reports on progress towards income generation goals, to CEO, then Board of Trustees.
- Monitoring income and managing departmental budgets. Analyses of all fundraising activities, events, including a robust patronage programme as well as funding campaigns, for excellent return on investment,
- To embed a culture for learning, that celebrate successes, encourages feedback and identifies areas for improvement.
Brand and Marketing
- Expanding and diversifying supporter reach and engagement to further enhance the return and reputation of the charity nationally, creating strong ‘brand awareness’ of all areas of our work.
- Overseeing the creation and management of Grief Encounter’s messaging and branding across all platforms. Ensures consistency and clarity across print, digital, social media content and all public relations.
- Conducting extensive research to develop new marketing opportunities and overseeing evaluation of existing processes.
Fundraising Management and Income Generation
- Ensuring income projections are accurate and timely, embracing a culture of performance and ambition.
- Embedding processes to support swift identification of opportunities, as well as timely mobilisation of progress with identified plans.
- On-going review and identification of new Grants and Trust opportunities of significant interest to the Charity. Ensures robust and timely applications, including ones for creative growth and development opportunities, are submitted by team and that outcomes/learning is shared for future improvements.
- Developing and leading on other strategic plans and initiatives with support from SMT and colleagues, to create other new revenue generation opportunities for the charity.
Events and Campaigns
- Planning and overseeing the execution of flagship events (e.g. Gala Dinner) with the Head of Fundraising (Special Events) and ensures support from other colleagues across the Charity.
- Building cross-departmental staff involvement in all fundraising events and income generating initiatives. Working closely with SMT colleagues to regularly update initiatives and share developments, both within Grief Encounter and more widely in the sector.
- Exhibiting a high level of visibility by attending a range of income generating events and functions throughout the year.
Digital Fundraising and Engagement
- Development and drive appropriate digital marketing campaigns across a range of social media platforms to engage supporters and increase donations.
Relationship Management
- Nurturing existing relationships and long standing supported to ensure stability for regular giving is well maintained.
- Networking and maintaining regular contact with an expanding portfolio of philanthropists, and major gift donors and prospects to build strong relationships, negotiate a wide range of on-going opportunities for support as well as partnerships.

ABOUT THE ROLE
Working closely with the Executive Director of Feedback Global, as well as with other members of the senior team and the Executive Director of Feedback EU, the Fundraising Manager will develop and implement a strategy to raise funds for Feedback Global and Feedback EU, with a target of £3m yearly income across both organisations by the end of 2025.
The overwhelming majority of the funds raised will be from trusts and foundations, and so the role will primarily consist of researching potential trusts and working with the different teams to research and write compelling concept notes and applications. As such, the postholder will be expected to proactively keep informed about developments in the food, social justice, and environmental sectors. The postholder will also lead on reporting to these funders and maintain and develop these relationships. The postholder will work to engage institutional supporters, create connections and develop the organisation’s networks with such funders. The postholder will identify new trusts and foundations and build and maintain a robust pipeline of income generation opportunities.
