The Role

As our Volunteer Fundraising & Partnerships Officer, you will play a key role in helping us secure the funding needed to expand our impact.

You will have the opportunity to develop and implement creative fundraising ideas while building meaningful relationships with businesses, community groups, and individual supporters.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop innovative fundraising campaigns and ideas.
• Identify new fundraising opportunities and income streams.
• Approach local and national businesses for sponsorship and corporate donations.
• Build relationships with corporate partners and community organisations.
• Research charitable trusts, foundations, and grant opportunities.
• Support online fundraising campaigns and digital donation initiatives.
• Promote fundraising activities through social media and online platforms.
• Help organise fundraising events and community initiatives.
• Encourage regular giving and supporter engagement.
• Work alongside the charity's leadership team to develop long-term fundraising strategies.

We're Looking For Someone Who

• Is passionate about supporting disadvantaged young people.
• Has excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

• Can work independently and take initiative.
• Has an interest in fundraising, sales, business development, marketing, or partnerships (experience is welcome but not essential).

This role presents an opportunity to liaise with businesses and organisations in your local community to find and arrange suitable reading venues for your group. Reading venues are typically in local libraries, churches and other businesses and organisations that can provide places where there is at least one other person in the building, whilst also providing an element of confidentiality, they are never classroom settings.

What you will be doing

● Ensuring there are sufficient suitable venues for reading pairs, in line with the Venue and Lone Worker Policy.

● Managing the relationship between the venues and the group and source new venues as the group grows.

● Finding organisations and businesses willing to offer a room or suitable space on their premises for your reading pairs to use at certain times of the week when it is not in use.

● Ensuring that the premises are suitable for Read Easy by using the Venue Checklist.

● Reporting on the venues arranged to the Management Team to gain their approval.

● Confirming the arrangements in writing with the venue provider.© Read Easy UK 2 June 2023

● Keeping an up-to-date record of venues and regularly review venue arrangements.

● Supporting the Team in finding and booking other venues for Read Easy events.

● Attending Management Team meetings, typically every six to eight weeks.

The skills you will need

● Experience of networking or the confidence to contact local organisations to explain how each venue can support local people to improve their reading.

● Ability to develop strong working relationships with local venue providers.

● Good communication and people skills, with a commitment to maintaining confidentiality.

● Reasonable confidence in using IT.

● The ability to use initiative and work independently.

● A willingness to abide by Read Easy policies and procedures.

● An open attitude that encourages two-way communication and willingness to ask for and offer support to the Team.

● A non-judgemental attitude and respect for others, with a commitment to equality and diversity, so that you can make everyone feel valued and included.

● Energy and enthusiasm with an average of one hour a week to commit to the role.

What does it look like to Chair a charity at a pivotal moment of change?

Voluntary Action North Somerset (VANS) is an established infrastructure charity supporting, connecting and championing voluntary and community organisations across North Somerset and beyond.

With a strong local reputation and a clear ambition for the future, VANS plays a vital role in strengthening communities by bringing organisations together, amplifying collective voice, and enabling others to deliver impact.

Now, at an important point in its development, the organisation is focused on building on its strengths, refining how it works, and positioning itself to be futureproof. We’re looking for a new Chair to lead the charity into its next phase.

Location: Based in North Somerset working across the South West and beyond
Remuneration: Voluntary, with expenses covered

Time commitment: Governance commitment supported by a Vice-Chair. Currently, 4 Board meetings and 2 Development days per annum, 3-4 Governance group meetings, regular meetings with the CEO, as well as ad-hoc meetings, preparation and urgent matters arising.

About the opportunity

This is a Chair role with real scope to shape both direction and approach. You’ll work alongside a committed Board and Chief Executive to provide strategic leadership, focus on achieving growth, and building a high-performing team and organisation as it continues to evolve.

As Chair, you’ll play a key role in:

• Keeping the Board focused, effective and forward‑looking
• Providing support and constructive challenge to the Chief Executive
• Ensuring clear governance, decision-making, and delivery

About you

We’re open to different backgrounds and pathways into this role. You may already be a Chair, or an experienced trustee or senior leader ready to be one. What matters most is your ability to provide confident, thoughtful and effective leadership.

We’re particularly interested in people who can:

• Operate at a senior strategic level and see the bigger picture
• Build strong, effective relationships across a Board and executive team
• Balance support and challenge in a constructive way
• Bring a level of commercial awareness and focus on sustainability

Experience of the voluntary sector, health or place‑based working would be valuable, but it’s not essential if you can quickly build that understanding.

Fundraising is at the heart of this role and is driven by your own ideas, local connections, and enthusiasm. Whether it's organising a community event, engaging local businesses, securing donations, or encouraging others to get involved, you'll help generate the funds needed to grant wishes. We'll provide guidance, resources, and support along the way. 

 How You'll Get Started 

Getting started as a Community Wish Maker is simple. Within your first few months, you'll choose a fundraising activity from our Community Fundraising Toolkit or create your own fundraising idea. 

You can: 

- Organise an activity independently 
- Fundraise with friends, family or colleagues 
- Team up with other local Community Wish Makers 
- Support an existing Make-A-Wish fundraising campaign or event 
- Whether it's a bake sale, quiz night, sponsored challenge, workplace fundraiser, school activity or local business partnership, you'll be helping raise the funds needed to grant more wishes

We'll provide resources, guidance and support to help you succeed. 

What We're Looking For 

You don't need fundraising experience—just enthusiasm, initiative, and a desire to make a difference

We're looking for people who are: 

- Confident building relationships and engaging others 
- Self-motivated and proactive 
- Creative in finding fundraising opportunities 
- Organised and reliable 
- Positive, enthusiastic, and passionate about helping others

- You will receive a 12 week induction training
- Community Fundraising Volunteer Toolkit to help you get started 
- A one-to-one introductory phone call with a member of our team 
- Materials to get you started in your role 
- A dedicated Volunteer manager

- Make-A-Wish email address / ID Badge / Letter of Authority to help with your fundraising
- Help & support you with ideas and steward you as much as you would like
- Regular volunteer newsletters with updates, opportunities, and useful information

The Baked Bean Charity is looking for dedicated and experienced individuals to join our Board of Trustees as we embark on a period of strategy development.

This is a unique opportunity to use your skills and expertise to help shape the future of a vibrant charity that supports more than 170 people with learning disabilities every week.

We're Looking For People Who:

• Have strong relationship-building and networking skills
• Bring a proactive approach and a willingness to contribute
• Can dedicate approximately 2–3 hours per month to trustee responsibilities.

Skills and Experience We Need

We are particularly interested in hearing from people with expertise in one or more of the following areas:

• Fundraising
• Charity or business development
• Marketing and communications
• Legal services
• Human Resources

Previous experience as a charity trustee is welcomed but not essential.

What We're Looking For

Successful candidates will:

• Understand the responsibilities and legal duties of charity trustees
• Be passionate about equality, inclusion, and empowering people with learning disabilities
• Be committed to making decisions that put the needs of our service users first
• Support our mission of delivering outstanding, person-centred services

Time Commitment

• Board meetings take place approximately every 6 weeks
• Meetings last approximately 2 hours
• Most meetings alternate between online and in person in Wimbledon
• The role is voluntary and unpaid, although reasonable expenses can be reimbursed

• Dance, Drama, Choir and DJing
• Zumba, Boxing and other sports activities
• Social clubs, holidays and community events
• Theatre in Education programmes that help businesses, schools and community organisations improve understanding, accessibility and inclusion
