We are a dynamic charity, focused on helping survivors of modern slavery rebuild their lives and achieve sustainable freedom by providing invaluable training, coaching, work experience and advocacy across the UK. It is now two years since we launched a new strategy from which we have increased our impact whilst strengthening and broadening our services for survivors of modern slavery. In these challenging times it is even more important that we continue to be bold, resilient and effective.
We are looking to find up to 3 inspirational Trustees with experience in one of more of the following areas:
- Legal (employment, contract, and charity law)
- Development/Fundraising (significant networks amongst corporate partners or major and mid-level donors)
- Policy/Advocacy or Public Affairs (with an understanding of the Modern Slavery or adjacent human rights topics)
As a trustee of the Sophie Hayes Foundation, you will be part of a small team of volunteers who are collectively responsible for developing and guiding the strategic direction of the organisation and ensure that we continue to support and advocate for survivors of modern slavery.
Trustee Role & Responsibilities

Responsibilities
As a trustee of SHF, you will work collectively with fellow board members to provide effective governance, oversight and strategic support. Your core duties will include:
1.Upholding SHF’s Mission and Values
- Support and advise on SHF’s purpose, vision, goals and charitable objects.
- Act at all times in the best interests of survivors and SHF’s mission.
- Promote SHF’s values, including survivor-centred practice, inclusion and safeguarding.
2. Governance, Compliance and Ethical Oversight
- Ensure SHF complies with its constitution, charity law and relevant regulations.
- Ensure resources are used responsibly and exclusively to further SHF’s charitable purposes.
- Maintain high standards of integrity, including declaring and managing conflicts of interest.
- Support effective governance structures, including participation in learningfocused reviews.
3. Financial Stewardship and Risk Management
- Oversee the charity’s financial health, ensuring sustainability and protection of assets.
- Monitor financial performance, risks and internal controls.
- Contribute to board-level scrutiny of finance and risk, supporting informed decision-making.
4. Strategic Support and Constructive Challenge
- Provide strategic guidance and support to the Executive, helping to shape direction, priorities and performance.
- Contribute to discussions on strategy, planning and organisational development.
- Offer constructive challenge in line with SHF’s values and governance expectations.
5. Safeguarding, Culture and Psychological Safety
- Promote a safe, transparent and inclusive organisational culture.
- Support safeguarding responsibilities, ensuring staff, volunteers and people with lived experience feel safe to raise concerns.
6. Board Participation and Collaboration
- Use your skills, experience and networks to strengthen the Board’s effectiveness.
- Prepare for, attend and actively contribute to Board and relevant committee meetings.
- Work collaboratively and respectfully with other trustees, the Chair and the Executive.
7. Advocacy and External Engagement
- Act as an ambassador for SHF, promoting our work and raising our profile.
- Advocate for survivors of modern slavery and support SHF’s influence, partnerships and fundraising efforts.

We are seeking up to 3 trustees who can bring specialist expertise in one or more of the following areas, complementing the skills of the Chair and wider Board:
Legal

What We Are Looking For
We’re seeking two trustees who can help Young Citizens expand our reach, influence, and financial resilience. You don’t need prior trustee experience, we provide a full induction, safeguarding training, and ongoing support.
We’re especially interested in those with expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Citizenship teaching or school leadership – understanding how schools work and how to embed civic learning and active citizenship across the curriculum.
- Marketing, communications and influencing – building brands, running campaigns, shifting perceptions and engaging educators, young people and supporters.
- Business growth, strategic partnerships and business development – scaling organisations, securing strategic partnerships and growing mission-aligned income streams.
- Digital transformation or innovation – using digital tools, products or platforms to grow impact.
- Fundraising and income generation – philanthropy, trusts and foundations, corporate fundraising or individual giving.

Role Requirements
The role requires around 4–6 hours per month, including preparation and engagement between meetings. Trustees attend four board meetings a year at our St Paul's office (usually weekday evenings), monthly online finance updates, and an annual Away Day. Appointments are for an initial three-year term, with potential renewal. While day-to-day operations are led by the Chief Executive and senior team, trustees hold ultimate responsibility for governance and compliance.

Our Top Priorities
We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Fundraising Trustee to work with the staff and Board to develop and build the existing fundraising strategy and capability of this small but rapidly growing national charity to the next step in realising our ambition, whilst embedding good governance, and strengthening the charity’s financial position. As a young charity we still need practical, hands on support from the trustees in their area of expertise while we work to mature into an organisation where the trustees can focus on a purely governance role.
Broad Description of Role
· Contribute actively as a member of the Board of Trustees to provide strategic direction, set overall strategy and policy, set targets and evaluate performance.
· Oversee all fundraising and ensure it is undertaken legally, honestly and accountably. Adhering to the Fundraising Regulator guidelines.
· Work with the CEO, Head of Marketing & Fundraising, Fundraising Manager and Board of Trustees to develop and implement a fundraising strategy for the charity to strengthen our financial sustainability, including maintaining existing donors and developing new funding streams.
· Use pre-existing networks to identify funding opportunities and facilitate introductions as well as strengthening relationships with existing donors and supporters.
· Support the development of a HNW network which will take some creativity in the current climate.
· Oversee the development and use of campaigns, social media and celebrity engagement so support income generation.
· Ensure donor reporting and compliance with fundraising legislation.
Who we’re looking for - knowledge and experience
· Demonstrable experience of fundraising at a senior level within the Third Sector.
· A thorough understanding of the Third Sector, Charity Commission legislation, charity governance and the Fundraising Regulator’s guidelines.
· Awareness of the challenges a small charity can face in developing long term funding streams.
· Experience of donor cultivation and journey.
· Experience of a diverse range of funding streams such as trust and foundations, corporate giving, HNW, individual giving and commercial income generation.
· Excellent networking, influencing and communication skills.
· Active support of fundraising programme.
· Help to create a culture of philanthropy.
Input and Time Commitment:
· A time commitment of 2-4 hours a month would be expected.
· Trustees are expected to be available for regular consultation and input on a range of issues in between meetings, usually via email.
· Attend at least one outreach a year.
· Attend virtual quarterly board meetings, held on third Tuesday of January, April, July, October at 6pm. Meetings duration approx 1 – 2 hours.
o Papers for the meeting are sent the week prior and Trustees must ensure they have read and understood all the information in advance in order to participate fully.
· Attend annual conference – usually 2 days in London.
· Attend in-person annual strategic review, usually half a day, in London.
· Training will be provided to give a good understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, liabilities and responsibilities of trustees.

The ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Service
Our ESOL provision is part of the Centre’s Employment and Learning Service, which also includes digital inclusion and employment support.
We have qualified volunteer ESOL teachers providing 1:1 support to clients who want to improve their English. We also have a couple of volunteers running small conversation classes at the Centre, within our Family Services.
We are expanding our ESOL offer to include learning opportunities offsite in a group setting to adults and young people in temporary accommodation, mainly asylum-seeking families.
What will you be doing?
- Conversational English with a small group
- Find out from your students what areas they want to cover and what skills they want to develop
- Encourage a positive atmosphere where students feel they can make mistakes
- The aim of the groups is to help our clients to become more independent and to pursue their social and professional goals.
- Be aware of the variety of levels within the class, providing support for weaker students and challenge for stronger ones
- Give students encouragement and constructive feedback
- To liaise with the manager of Family Services and communicate any issues that arise with the class
How does this role make a difference?
This support provided by volunteers to our clients really helps them progress with their English. Often clients do not have opportunities to learn English or interact with an English speaking person, so this opportunity is invaluable to them. Improving our clients English also enables individuals to access our other services such as welfare rights and Immigration advice services, digital inclusion, which will in turn, improve their employment prospects and assist in integration in their local community.
Who will you be helping?
Our clients are refugees, migrants and asylum seekers who are unable to afford or access English classes at colleges. We have many clients at the Centre who need support with their English.
What are we looking for?
- Experience in teaching English as a second language to adults in a group setting and to mixed abilities and a range of languages.
- A recognised ESOL/EFL teaching qualification such as CELTA.
- Good communication and organisational skills.
- An awareness of some of the issues that affect refugees, asylum seekers and migrants.
- A commitment to upholding the Centre’s values of valuing each person, welcoming, encouraging potential, working together, reflecting and improving.
Time Commitment:
The class will run in term times, on Wednesdays from 25th February 2026, from 10.30am – 12/12.30pm. We ask for a commitment to run this 90 – 120-minute class for at least two terms ideally.

- You will receive a Centre induction.
- You will have access to e-learning modules on a range of topics.

About Us
We are a small grassroots charity based in Southwark and the only surviving tenants’ federation in London. For decades, we have supported tenants and residents to defend their housing rights, challenge poor conditions, and have a collective voice in decisions that affect their homes and communities.
Our social housing advice service supports people facing homelessness, disrepair, evictions, and housing management issues, with a strong focus on empowerment and tenant-led action.
The Role
We are seeking a Volunteer Grant Officer to help us secure funding to sustain and grow our vital work. This role is crucial to keeping an independent, tenant-led voice alive in London.
You will work closely with a small, committed team and help ensure our advice service remains accessible to local residents.
Key Responsibilities
- Research grant funding opportunities suitable for a grassroots, tenant-led organisation
- Draft and submit grant applications to trusts, foundations, and statutory funders
- Maintain a simple funding pipeline and track deadlines
- Work with staff and volunteers to gather service data, outcomes, and case studies
- Assist with basic funder monitoring and reporting
About You
Essential:
- Strong written communication skills
- Good organisational skills and reliability
- Commitment to social justice and housing rights
Desirable (but not essential):
- Experience of grant writing or fundraising
- Knowledge of social housing, tenant organisations, or advice services

AMR Action UK (formerly Antibiotic Research UK) is the UK Patient Organisation for Antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Its legitimacy to advocate for patients, with policy-makers and with NHS systems, comes from its insight, and therefore through its patient support services, patient-focussed research and direct patient and public engagement activities.
The organisation is at an exciting stage of its development. Following the appointment of a new Chief Executive in late 2024 it has a new strategy in place and by greatly increasing its impact over the next 3 years intends to significantly reduce the harm from AMR across all four nations of the United Kingdom. The charity is also committed to expanding its services to meet the growing demand from patients and families directly impacted by AMR. This growth will be underpinned by a new name and new brand, a fresh approach to communications that will greatly increase awareness of the charity’s work with the UK public, and a new fundraising strategy that will both grow and diversify income and also increase sustainability.
The charity is now looking for a dynamic new Chair of Trustees who is excited by our plans, and by the difference this will make to peoples’ lives. Given the growth agenda for the period 2025-28, the suitable candidate at this point in time is likely to come from a commercial background, with a strong understanding of strategy, investment, business development, and communications in the context of a rapidly changing environment. They are also likely to have a track-record of successfully managing risk v reward in a growing business. Increasing donations from corporates and philanthropists is important to the charity at this stage in its development and the new Chair will be comfortable operating in these environments.
A key part of the role will be to support the new senior executive team charged with delivering the growth agenda, including establishing and maintaining a strong working relationship with the CEO.
This is a fully remote role, but the successful candidate must live in the UK. You would be expected to attend 1 strategy away day per year, and also to support the CEO in in-person meetings in London as and when required.

What’s the role?
Role: Bristol SU Co-opted (external) Trustee (non-student)
Hours: Meetings are during working hours. The role requires a level of flexibility (hours, commitment and expectations section on the role description)
Voluntary: Reasonable expenses reimbursed when carrying out trustee duties
Location: Bristol and Online
Requirements: Trustee meetings and subcommittees occur in person (some opportunity for online as well) but the events (training and awayday) are in person in Bristol.
Duration: 3 years (with potential for another 2 terms of 3 years)

What will you bring?
Experience as a trustee, a member of a commercial board, or in a senior management role with leadership or governance responsibilities is essential. This is due to the nature of our board: as a membership organisation, we have a strong representation of student voice through officers and student trustees. They are almost always first-time trustees and will benefit from co-opted trustees with strong insight and experience in leadership, governance and strategic decision making.
We value and are looking for committed and engaged trustees. However, whilst we’re relatively open in terms of skillsets, ideally, you’ll have expertise in one or more of these areas:
· Legal especially charity or company law
· Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity
· Charity governance
Most importantly, you’ll be committed to making a difference to the lives of our 32,000 members and around 400 clubs and societies.
Please note, this role is not open to current University of Bristol students or anyone who has been one within the last two years. Student trustee opportunities and other student leadership roles will be available in the March 2026 election.

The role of the Governing Body includes collective oversight of the College’s activities and setting and reviewing
our strategy and mission. The governor role is comparable with the non-executive directors of a public company
but instead of being accountable to shareholders, governors are accountable for public funds. As the College is an exempt charity, all governors are charity trustees.
Being a governor is a hugely rewarding leadership role. Governors can make a real difference and give something
back to the local community.
The College is currently looking for two new governors to join the Board. We are seeking experienced individuals, who
are looking for an opportunity to use and develop their professional skills in a board-level environment.

Hospital Visitor Volunteer
Hospital Visitor volunteers visit hospital settings to ensure that people detained under the Mental Health Act are aware that they have a legal right to an IMHA qualified advocate. The volunteers are instrumental in ensuring that clients get access to an advocate and can also support the work that advocates undertake.
As a hospital volunteer, you might:

hold drop-in sessions

attend events and ward meetings at local facilities

assist people to request advocacy support by completing a form online or calling our contact centre
Please note: You must be able to attend one of the following locations on a weekly basis, in order to volunteer as a Hospital Visitor; Caludon Centre or Hawkesbury Lodge (Coventry), Aspen Unit or St Michaals Hospital (Warwickshire)
Support Session Volunteer
You’ll be supporting people over the age of 18 with disabilities, this may include those with poor mental health, learning difficulties, autism and other disabilities. Your role will include supporting clients to understand and undertake a task on a one-to-one basis. The task will vary from client to client as will the needs of the individual.
As a support session volunteer, you might:

Helping individuals navigate challenges and ensuring their needs are met

help people to make complaints and use local services
All volunteering will take place Monday to Friday between 09:00 and 17:00. You will need to be over 18 years old and be living in the UK. Please note that there is no opportunity to volunteer at weekends or in the evening.
