Microbiology Society is looking to find a new voluntary Chair of its Audit, Risk and Evaluation Committee Please see the role description along with the Terms of Reference for the Committee.

The Chair will use their experience and knowledge to provide an external perspective on the delivery of the annual audit; the risk management of the Society’s activities; and the evaluation of those activities.

About the Volunteer Role: Chair of the Board of Trustees

As our new Chair, you will play a central role in establishing SUNSHINE’s governance, supporting our Founder & CEO, and ensuring that our mission — reducing loneliness and building human connection — is delivered with integrity, compassion and clarity.

As our board has limited Trustee experience, we need a Chair with previous Trustee experience.

Your responsibilities may include:

• Providing leadership to the Board and ensuring effective governance and board performance.

• Supporting the Founder & CEO, as well as the board.

• Helping establish SUNSHINE’s early strategy, policies and direction.

• Ensuring the charity stays true to its mission and values.

• Helping recruit and develop a small, committed Board of Trustees.

Make a Smile is seeking a motivated and organised Chapter President to lead one of our local Chapters. This is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing committee operations, supporting volunteers, and ensuring the smooth running of all Chapter activities.

About Make a Smile

Make a Smile is a charity dedicated to bringing joy to children through character visits, events, and community engagement. Each Chapter is run by a volunteer committee, and the President plays a central role in guiding and supporting that team.

Role Overview

The Chapter President is responsible for the overall management, development, and compliance of their Chapter. You will lead the committee, coordinate activities, and act as the main link between your Chapter and the national Board of Trustees.

Key Responsibilities

• Local Leadership
• Oversee the day‑to‑day running of the Chapter and support committee members in their roles.

• Identify when committee members need support and step in with advice, delegation, or hands‑on help.

National Responsibilities

• Act as the primary point of contact between your Chapter and the Board of Trustees.
• Submit a monthly report on Chapter progress, challenges, and key decisions.

• Implement national guidance and changes communicated by Trustees.
• Manage your Chapter’s allocated budget and support fundraising targets.

As Volunteer Company Secretary, you will be the "conscience of the charity," ensuring that our Trustee and Executive Team operates within its legal and regulatory framework to ensure our beneficiaries receive the highest standard of care and support. 

This is a vital role at the heart of the charity’s operations and offers the opportunity to help shape the governance of a high-impact charity. 

You will provide the bridge between the Board and the executive team, contributing directly to the Trust’s mission by underpinning strong governance and accountability at Board level. By ensuring compliance, transparency, and well-run meetings, you will support the Trustee and executive team to make informed strategic decisions that enhance opportunities, independence, and wellbeing for adults with neuro-disabilities. 

You will:  

• Manage our core administration, ensuring governance and compliance documents, records and processes are kept up to date; including managing filings with Companies House and the Charity Commission, and managing the conflicts of interest register.
• Support the Board and CEO with meeting management; helping to prepare agendas, minutes, board packs and maintain a robust rolling action log.
• Ensure good governance, keeping us aligned with legal and regulatory requirements; always advising best practice and updating the board on the Charity Governance Code.
• Support the Trustee onboarding process, helping us to stay structured and efficient. 
• Be the organisational backbone, helping Minstead Trust to stay steady, safe and well run.

What are we looking for?  

• Commitment to our Mission: an understanding of, or interest in, the challenges faced by those living with neuro-disabilities and a willingness to lead according to our values.  
• Detail-Oriented: a "right first time" approach to legal documentation.  
• Discretion: the ability to handle sensitive clinical or financial information with absolute confidentiality.  
• Ability to think creatively and strategically and exercise good, independent judgement. 

About you: 

• You’re someone who loves order, clarity and good organisation.

• You have prior experience as a Company Secretary, Governance Officer, or Senior Administrator, ideally within the UK charity or public sector. (Essential) 
• You have a high level of digital literacy (e.g., Board portals, MS Teams/Zoom, SharePoint).  
• You have exceptional minute-taking skills and the ability to synthesize complex discussions into concise, professional records.

The Role of the Academy Advisory Council

• Provide local insight to inform Trust decisions
• Support safeguarding understanding at academy level

• Help ensure Trust values and ethos are lived day-to-day

Unlike traditional governing bodies, you won’t be burdened with financial or staffing decisions. Instead, you’ll have the time and focus to look at what really matters—impact, experience and community voice.

What’s Expected of You

We understand this is a voluntary role, and we aim to make it meaningful and manageable:

• Three meetings per year, usually held after school
• Preparation by reading papers and contributing to discussions
• Occasional focused academy visits to understand life on the ground

Chair of Trustees - The Family Place Foundation

We are recruiting a new Chair of Trustees to lead our Board and support the next stage of our charity’s development.

Location: Remote, with occasional in‑person trustee meetings (typically once or twice a year) held in the Clyro/Herefordshire area.

Time commitment: Approximately 1–2 days per month. This includes six trustee meetings a year, occasional ad‑hoc discussions and light‑touch support between meetings (for example reviewing policies or responding to emails).

Established in 2020, we are a small, well-established charity with a strong grounding and a clear purpose. We raise funds to provide support to adopted, fostered and kinship care children and their families to improve emotional wellbeing, strengthen relationships, and reduce the impact of early trauma. In collaboration with leading UK practitioners, we support the delivery of a range of services providing essential therapeutic care and family support that isn’t covered by statutory funding. We are now seeking a Chair of Trustees to help guide the charity through its next stage of development, including shaping our emerging Family Foundations project, a significant new early‑years initiative for the charity, alongside our ongoing portfolio of funded projects delivered through our specialist partner. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dedicated Board and a small operational support team who care deeply about the families we serve and the long‑term sustainability of the organisation.

The charity is currently led by a Board of four trustees, supported by two part‑time operational staff and a small group of volunteers.

As Chair, you will provide leadership to the Board, ensure effective governance, and help the charity continue enabling the delivery of high‑quality, trauma‑informed support. You will work closely with the trustees and operational colleagues to help shape strategy, strengthen partnerships, and ensure the charity remains compliant, resilient, and focused on its mission. You will also play a key role in strengthening the charity’s governance and fundraising, which in turn enables the therapeutic delivery carried out by our specialist partner. 

A supportive handover will be provided to ensure a smooth and confident transition into the role.

Person Specification

We are looking for someone who brings:

• Warmth, clarity and good judgement, with a balanced, proportionate approach to governance.

• A genuine commitment to improving the lives of adopted, fostered and kinship care children and an understanding of the challenges faced by families affected by early trauma.

• Confidence in chairing discussions, helping the Board reach clear, well‑considered decisions.

• An understanding of good governance, including risk, safeguarding and compliance (or a willingness to learn).

• The ability to work collaboratively with trustees and our small operational support team, offering encouragement and constructive challenge while supporting the charity’s governance and fundraising role, which enables the specialist delivery work carried out by our partner.

• Strategic thinking, with the ability to help shape the charity’s direction and ensure long‑term sustainability.

• Reliability, integrity and a calm, steady approach, keeping the charity’s purpose at the centre of decision‑making.

• Meets the eligibility requirements to serve as a charity trustee, as set out by the Charity Commission.

Helpful but not essential:

• Experience of chairing a board or committee

• Experience in charity governance, education, social care, therapeutic work, or community leadership would be helpful, but we are open to a wide range of backgrounds.

• Lived or professional experience related to adoption, fostering, trauma or family support.

Based at Fawcett Estate Community Hall in Clapton, Hackney, we run a Community Food Hub, alternative education, SEN support, and community programmes including Jumping Beans. Behind every programme we run and every family we support, there is careful administration keeping everything in order. We are looking for a Volunteer Admin Coordinator to be that backbone — someone who takes ownership of the detail, keeps our systems running, and makes sure the rest of the team can focus on delivery.

This is an ideal role for someone who is highly organised, discreet, and takes real pride in getting things right.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Day-to-Day Administration

• Manage correspondence, scheduling, and general administrative tasks across the organisation

• Maintain accurate records, databases, and filing systems in line with GDPR and data protection requirements

• Support the preparation of reports, meeting notes, and key organisational documents

Operational Support

• Support the Operations Manager with administrative aspects of HR, finance, and governance

• Help coordinate onboarding for volunteers and new team members

• Track outputs, attendance, and impact data for monitoring and evaluation

Communications & Coordination

• Act as the first point of contact for internal queries — directing people quickly and clearly

• Maintain shared systems and tools so information is easy to find and act on

• Support communication between teams, leadership, and external partners

Governance & Compliance Support

• Help prepare materials for Trustee and leadership meetings

• Support safeguarding admin — DBS checks, consent forms, and record keeping

• Flag gaps in processes and help develop simple, workable solutions
