Job Description:

The Women & Families Resource Centre (WFRC) is a registered charity based in Wolverhampton which supports, empowers and advocates for women and children. We aim to actively encourage women to be self-reliant, through empowering them to identify their own needs, make their own choices and create their own solutions.

We offer short term home visits, counselling sessions, practical & emotional One to One support, Domestic violence groups, Awareness raising workshops and drop in or chat groups to help women facing crises or challenging situations.

Purpose of Volunteer Role

Task Description

Fundraising volunteers will take part in a variety of activities to raise money for WFRC - some planned at the start of the year, and some arising during the year. We are seeking a creative and experienced Communications Team Lead to play a vital role in raising awareness of the mission of Bounds Green Food Bank and drive donations. They will be responsible for leading a team of volunteers and assisting the team in coming up with creative ways to spread the word of the food bank.
 

About Bounds Green Food Bank: 

Open since June 2020, we serve over 4,600 children and adults in the community. We are committed to improving lives by providing food and essential household items to build a healthy, hunger-free tomorrow. We strive to promote social inclusion by supporting people who find themselves in a crisis situation where they need assistance to feed themselves and their families.

The role: 

• Create and lead on communication campaigns and initiatives to raise funds, recruit volunteers and promote our impact

• Manage a fantastic Communications Team of remote volunteers with specific roles (social media, website management, business partnership, graphics and community liaison), providing guidance and managing workload

• Work closely with the Fundraising Lead to create effective fundraising campaigns through newsletters, social media, flyers, events and our website.

About the Role

Our Board of Trustees provides strategic leadership and strong governance, helping to shape Earthwatch’s direction and impact. Trustees act as ambassadors for our mission, bringing diverse perspectives and expertise to guide our work

The Board meets four times a year, usually for full-day meetings on a Friday, held either in person or online via Microsoft Teams. Meetings usually take place in London or Oxford. Two standing committees — Finance (meets quarterly) and Nominations (meets twice a year) — provide additional oversight. Manor Gardens Welfare Trust has been at the heart of Islington since 1913, where we were set up to address 10% rates of infant mortality. What we're looking for

We're seeking trustees with expertise in one or more of the below areas:

Fundraising and income development — You will have significant experience leading or overseeing fundraising strategy, with a strong track record across trusts and foundations, statutory commissioning, or other income streams relevant to a charity of our size and complexity. You understand what sustainable income looks like for a community health organisation navigating a difficult funding environment.

Services and community leadership — You will have deep experience leading or developing services for under-represented, minoritised, or marginalised communities, ideally in the voluntary and community sector. You understand what excellent, culturally competent, trauma-informed practice looks like — and how to govern it well.

Human resources — You will have significant HR expertise and an understanding of what good people management looks like in a complex, mission-driven organisation. Whether your background is in-house, consultancy, or the voluntary sector, you'll be able to bring a thoughtful, practical perspective to workforce questions at board level and contribute to our HR and Communications sub-group, as well as the wider board.

What you'll join

Our board of six trustees brings expertise spanning third sector leadership, asset management, law, HR, finance, and communications. We meet five times a year, with three sub-groups (Fundraising and Services; HR and Communications; Finance and Facilities) that meet as needed. The time commitment averages around six hours per month. Trustees are appointed for three-year terms, with the potential for renewal.

What You'll Be Doing

No two events are the same! You could be:

• Welcoming visitors and helping create a friendly, inclusive atmosphere.
• Supporting disabled people and their families to take part in activities with confidence.
• Getting involved in arts, crafts, games, and creative activities.
• Helping set up and pack down event spaces.
• Running activity stalls, information stands, or family-friendly games.
• Sharing information about Sense and the support we provide.
• Assisting with fundraising activities at community events.
• Working alongside staff and fellow volunteers to ensure events run smoothly.

We'll regularly share upcoming volunteering opportunities with you, and you can choose the events that match your interests, location, and availability.

You don't need previous experience—just enthusiasm and a willingness to get involved.

This role is ideal for students and community-minded individuals who are:

• Friendly, approachable, and confident engaging with people from all backgrounds.

Due to the nature of the role, we require all applicants to be aged 16 or over. You must have a UK address to volunteer with Sense.

As a Grants and Funding Volunteer, you will play a vital role in supporting our work. You will:

• Identify and apply for funding opportunities through compelling proposals
• Craft engaging campaigns to attract donors and increase awareness
• Develop clear and impactful communication strategies to share our mission and successes with stakeholders, partners, and the public

You'll collaborate closely with the admin team, a small group of volunteers who work behind the scenes to enable our success with our project goals. You'll also liaise with our Project Director to align your work with the trust's aims and objectives.

This role is adaptable to your skills and interests. Whether your expertise lies in campaign writing, digital communications, or event-based fundraising, we’ll work with you to tailor the responsibilities and focus areas to make the most of your time and talents.

Skills and Experience (any of these):

• Grant Writing: Proven ability to identify funding opportunities and write compelling grant applications that secure essential resources.
• Fundraising Expertise: Experience in planning, managing, or supporting successful fundraising campaigns. This could include individual giving, events, or digital campaigns.
• Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills to create impactful messaging across multiple platforms, such as social media, press releases, or donor communications.
• Digital Marketing and Social Media: Familiarity with digital marketing strategies, including using social media for engagement and online fundraising.
• Relationship Building: Experience in building and maintaining relationships with donors, corporate sponsors, or community groups.
• Project Management: The ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and deliver high-quality results.
