Volunteer Media correspondents (Campaigns) will be leading and supporting Centre for Big Synergy’s (CBS) SDG campaigns and events by capturing and sharing impactful stories and features across its communication channels, reaching millions.

What will you be doing?

Working closely with relevant campaigns or events team leadership and other volunteers of CBS, the Media Correspondents will interview members of public, campaign stakeholders, special guests, celebrities, leaders in policy, business and media , produce high‑quality audio‑visual content, and manage digital publications, helping to strengthen awareness, engagement, and visibility for our organisation’s mission and project outcomes.

Correspondents will play a key role in shaping and sharing the stories behind our sustainability initiatives. Your responsibilities will include:

• Working alone or in pairs; introduce campaigns to stakeholders/public, research, plan, compose and execute interviews and features (text, audio, video as applicable) 
• Conducting interviews with project leads, community members, partners, special guests, advisors and beneficiaries; for public events, public engagement, award ceremonies, campaigns
• Recording high‑quality audio and video content in the field (public places) or remotely.
• Editing interviews and project footage into clear, engaging, and professional media outputs.
• Creating compelling written and visual content for social media, newsletters, and other organisational platforms.
• Managing the publication of content across our digital channels, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and alignment with our mission.
• Collaborating with multiple project teams, selecting assignments based on your availability and areas of interest.
• Maintaining organised media archives and ensuring all content adheres to ethical and brand guidelines.

What are we looking for?

We are seeking a confident and capable media professional who brings:

• A minimum of three years’ experience in journalism, media production, communications, or a related field.
• Strong interviewing skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders respectfully and professionally.
• Proficiency in audio and video recording, editing software, and digital content creation.
• Excellent written communication skills and an eye for compelling storytelling.
• Familiarity with social media platforms and an understanding of how to tailor content for different audiences.
• The ability to work independently, manage multiple assignments, and meet agreed timelines.
• A genuine interest in sustainability, community development, and not‑for‑profit work.
• Professionalism, discretion, and a commitment to representing the organisation with integrity.

Our work is simple – we refurbish unwanted bikes and donate them to refugees and people seeking asylum, many living on less than £7 a day, giving them freedom and independence whilst they rebuild their lives.

A bike makes a huge difference – not only is it a practical tool for tackling poverty, those who receive bikes from us report they are more connected in their community, happier and healthier as a result:

• 91% of people use their bikes weekly for essential journeys

• 84% of people are better able to access legal and other vital support services 

• 93% report better physical and/or mental health

Alongside our core Bike Donations Programme, we support refugee women to learn to cycle through our Pedal Power Programme; provide ongoing support with bike maintenance through our Repair or Replace Programme; and offer the opportunity for connection and friendship through our volunteer-matching Bike Buddy Programme.

About You and the Role  

You don’t need to have experience of being on a Board, in fact the role would be ideal for someone considering taking on their first role as a trustee. We will work with you to understand your duties and support you.

You will, however, have an excellent understanding of charity finance and understand the unique set of challenges charities of our size face in delivering impact and ensuring financial resilience. You will be an excellent communicator – able to provide constructive feedback and scrutiny at the same time as helping the team to articulate financial information to others who may not have a finance background.
 
You will be joining a highly committed group of trustees who give their time, expertise and contacts to support the charity. Our trustees are critical in enabling us to thrive and this role plays a key role in supporting the wider board to fulfil its financial responsibilities.

You will work together with the board and wider staff team to set our strategic direction and improve our work with refugees. At the heart of everything we do is the real and immediate impact a bike makes to the lives of those who have been through so much. You will be part of us achieving that.
 
The time commitment for a trustee generally totals approximately 8 hours per month. Please see the role description for further details.

The Role

As our Volunteer Fundraising & Partnerships Officer, you will play a key role in helping us secure the funding needed to expand our impact.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop innovative fundraising campaigns and ideas.

The Hospital Broadcasting Association (HBA) is seeking a Grants & Fundraising Officer to support the charity’s financial sustainability by identifying funding opportunities, developing applications and helping to build relationships with funders, sponsors and partners.

This is an opportunity to use your fundraising, research and communication skills to support a national charity that helps more than 140 hospital, health and wellbeing broadcasting organisations develop, collaborate and thrive.

This is a volunteer role working closely with the Treasurer and Trustee Board to help identify and develop new income opportunities that support the HBA’s strategic objectives.

What you'll do

As Grants & Fundraising Officer, you will support the HBA’s fundraising activity. Responsibilities include:

• Researching and identifying suitable grant funding opportunities aligned with the charity’s objectives.
• Supporting the preparation and submission of grant applications, working with Trustees and relevant stakeholders to gather information and evidence.
• Maintaining a record of funding opportunities, deadlines, applications and outcomes.
• Supporting the development of sponsorship opportunities, including for HBA events, awards and initiatives.
• Exploring opportunities for additional fundraising activity, partnerships and donor engagement.
• Supporting the Treasurer to ensure fundraising activity aligns with the charity’s financial priorities and reporting requirements.
• Maintaining accurate records of funding received, application requirements and reporting deadlines.
• Supporting grant monitoring, evaluation and reporting activity where required.
• Building positive relationships with potential funders, sponsors and partners.
• Providing updates and recommendations to the Treasurer and Trustee Board on fundraising opportunities and progress.

About you

We're looking for someone who:

• Has an interest in fundraising, grant applications, partnerships or income generation.
• Can research opportunities and identify potential sources of funding.
• Has strong written communication skills, particularly for preparing applications and proposals.
• Is organised, reliable and able to manage deadlines.
• Can work independently while also collaborating with a volunteer-led team.
• Has good attention to detail when managing applications, records and reporting requirements.
• Is proactive and enjoys identifying opportunities for improvement and growth.
• Can represent the HBA in a professional and positive manner.
• Shares our commitment to supporting hospital, health and wellbeing broadcasting.

Previous experience in fundraising, grant writing, bid preparation or partnership development would be beneficial. We encourage applications from people with transferable skills gained in the charity, public or private sectors.

Role responsibilities and boundaries

The post holder reports to the Treasurer and works collaboratively with Trustees and other volunteers to support the HBA’s fundraising and income development activity. 

The role does not include authority to commit the HBA to funding agreements, sponsorship arrangements or financial obligations. The post holder must not enter into any agreement or contract on behalf of the HBA without prior approval from the Trustee Board.

Working with the HBA

The HBA is an entirely volunteer-led charity with no paid staff. Our volunteers play an important role in helping the organisation achieve its objectives by contributing their skills, experience and enthusiasm.

The Grants & Fundraising Officer will work closely with the Treasurer and Trustees, supporting the charity’s continued development while gaining experience of fundraising within a national voluntary organisation.

Meetings and commitment

The time commitment is approximately 8 hours per month.

Most activity can be carried out flexibly and remotely, with regular communication taking place online.

Location and expenses

This role can be carried out from anywhere in the UK, with most business conducted online.

Volunteers may occasionally be invited to attend HBA events, including trustee board meetings, the HBA Annual Conference and Awards, meetings with stakeholders or other charity activities.

Reasonable travel and out-of-pocket expenses incurred while carrying out volunteer duties will be reimbursed in line with the Association’s expenses policy.
