About The Role
The Innovations Officer leads the development of a new project from concept to rollout, ensuring Make A Smile continues to evolve and deliver high‑quality, engaging experiences. You will design, test, refine, and launch an innovations project that strengthens the charity’s impact across all chapters.
Key Responsibilities
You will take ownership of an innovations project and guide it through every stage of development. Responsibilities include:
● Creating a full project outline, including aims, failure criteria, projected costs, timeline, and required skills.
● Recruiting and managing an Innovations Subcommittee with the skills needed to deliver the project.

The service is an independent charity, employing 35 people and benefiting from the support of about 70 highly trained volunteers. We are a full member of the National Association of Citizens Advice, our membership organisation, which supports our work.
Our chair plays a critical role in leading both the board and the organisation, as well as in representing the Salford service within the broader Citizens Advice movement. They will also provide strategic leadership and support the service’s chief executive.
The service provides advice to about 18,000 people each year, and is regulated by various bodies. Our offer is primarily through face to face contact, telephone advice, web access and we are looking at what new digital approaches such as AI can do for us.
We hold the specialist advice giving quality mark. Citizens Advice Salford has a strong reputation as a campaigner for change, for fighting against poverty, lobbying and campaigning on behalf of our clients, together with working across Greater Manchester with our colleague local citizens advice services.

Process Design: Research, evaluate and design a formal onboarding process for new volunteers. This will include interviewing new and older team members, as well as understanding our complete operating structure, tools and other processes that new members need to become familiar with.

Process Implementation: Implement tools that will help us deliver smooth and successful onboarding for new volunteers joining Bees Abroad.

Policy Implementation: Support with updating the tools used to implement our policies efficiently and in the most user-friendly manner.

Documentation: Collate any necessary documentation and manuals for use by Bees Abroad HR team in the future.
Skills & Experience:

UX Design/HR Processes: Experience implementing User journeys and experiences, service design or HR Onboarding in other teams

Technical Skills: Experience using automation tools, Microsoft Suite and Notion. Experience using AI tools is welcome.

Collaboration: Excellent written, verbal and phone communication skills. Experience working in a team, with strong sense of autonomy and accountability towards team members.
