The London Foundation for Banking & Finance’s (LFBF) is a registered charity incorporated by Royal Charter. Our charitable purpose ‘is the advancement of knowledge of and education in financial services and to carry out research and publish the results for the benefit of the public.’

LFBF also recognises the highest level of professional competence by awarding chartered status to individuals who have demonstrated their commitment to continued education and professional excellence within Financial Services.

Our Story

The London Foundation for Banking & Finance (LFBF) started life back in March 1879, when a group of bank workers came together to establish leadership and professional practice principles for the industry. They created the first Institute of Bankers in England and Wales to offer educational resources to those in the sector.

Over the years, the organisation developed its own industry leading qualifications to create a gold standard of banking and financial education. It also established itself as a leading voice in the banking world, providing invaluable insights into all areas of the industry and promoting the highest standards of professional competency.

Today, we exist to support the advancement of knowledge and education in financial services. Previously, we were called The London Institute of Banking and Finance (LIBF), and we were renamed following the sale of our education and training activities in March 2023.

Today, our focus is on:

• Supporting our members and creating community: We support financial services professionals, nurturing diversity, innovation and professional excellence. We believe that working with the financial services industry is crucial for building financial capability.
• Sharing insights and best practice: We produce research and thought leadership in financial capability and through our think-tank, the Centre for the Study of Financial Innovation. We believe that change requires evidence and innovative thought.
• Building financial capability: We work directly and through sponsorship and partnerships to reach individuals across the UK, empowering them with the skills they need to become financially capable. We believe everyone should have an opportunity to be financially capable.

 About the role

Our trustees play a vital role ensuring that The London Foundation for Banking & Finance (LFBF) achieves its charitable purpose. They oversee the overall strategic management and administration of the charity. They also ensure that LFBF has a clear strategy and that our work and goals are in line with our vision. Just as importantly, they support and challenge the executive team to enable LFBF to grow and thrive, and through this, achieve our mission.

Board members have a collective responsibility. This means that trustees always act as a group and not as individuals.

Role responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of the trustee are as follows:

• Support and provide advice on LFBF’s purpose, vision, goals and activities.
• Approve strategic objectives and policies and monitor and evaluate their implementation.
• Oversee LFBF’s financial plans and budgets and monitor and evaluate progress.
• Ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation.
• Ensure that key risks are being identified, monitored and controlled effectively.
• Review and approve LFBF’s financial statements.
• Provide support and challenge to LFBF’s CEO in the exercise of their delegated authority and affairs.
• Keep abreast of changes in LFBF’s operating environment.
• Contribute to regular reviews of LFBF’s own governance.
• Attend Board meetings, adequately prepared to contribute to discussions.
• Attend LFBF events as appropriate.
• Use independent judgment, acting legally and in good faith to promote and protect LFBF’s interests, to the exclusion of their own personal and/or any third party interests.
• Contribute to the broader promotion of LFBFs objects, aims and reputation by applying their skills, expertise, knowledge and contacts.

As a small charity, there will be times when the trustees will need to be actively involved beyond Board meetings. This may involve scrutinising board papers, leading discussions, focusing on key issues, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives, presenting externally, or other issues in which the trustee has special expertise.

We are looking for people willing to bring enthusiasm and commitment to the role, and who will broaden the diversity of thinking on our board.

Due to a number of our current trustees reaching their term in the coming months, we are looking to recruit up to 4 new trustees. In the main we are looking for experienced trustees however one trustee role will be available for those with little or no previous governance experience as we will provide a full induction and training.

In particular we are looking for:

• Knowledge and experience across 1 or more areas of our remit e.g. financial capability, education, membership, research, communications or in the areas of digital / artificial intelligence, marketing or fund raising
• Willingness and ability to understand and accept their responsibilities as trustees and to act in the best interests of the organisation.
• Ability to think creatively and strategically, exercise good, independent judgement and work effectively as a board member.
• Effective communication skills and willingness to participate actively in discussion.

Volunteer with Refugee Young People - Help with Homework and Activities

Location: Battersea, London

Programme: Future Foundations - Katherine Low Settlement

Join our Future Foundations programme and support young people from refugee and newly arrived backgrounds to thrive in school and beyond. Each club blends focused homework support with fun, creative activities that help build confidence, friendships and a sense of belonging. You'll be part of something that gives young people a brighter start in life, and you'll still get school holidays off.

Every hour you spend helps a young person feel more confident, more connected and more empowered to succeed.

Choose a club that works for you

Junior Homework Club (Ages 7-11) - Thursdays, 4:00 to 7:00pm
Support primary-aged children with reading, homework and structured play.

Senior Homework Club (Ages 11-14) - Wednesdays, 4:30 to 7:30pm
Help senior school aged students with schoolwork, confidence and communication, then join in with group games and creative activities.

Youth Homework Club (Ages 14-20) - Mondays, 4:00 to 7:00pm
Help older, newly arrived students with schoolwork, confidence and communication, then join in with group games and creative activities.

Independent Visitor Volunteer 

Our Independent Visitor Volunteers provide consistent and supportive relationships to children ad young people in care, offering emotional support, companionship, and guidance through shared activities and time together.The Independent Visitor plays a vital role in helping the young people build confidence and feel secure while enhancing their personal, social, and cultural development. 

As an Independent Visitor Volunteer in England, you might: 

• support the child/young person to experience enriching activities that contribute to their personal and cultural development

• engage in activities such as pursuing hobbies, meeting for meals, or socialising in a community setting

• listen to and support the young person, fostering a sense of safety and trust

• help the young person develop social skills and increase their involvement in their community

• develop a positive and lasting relationship, ensuring the young person feels valued and supported 

You will need to be over 18 years old and be living in the UK. Please note that the Independent Visitor Volunteers generally volunteer at evening and weekends due to the children’s and young person’s availability.

Overall Responsibility for Coordinating the service delivery and impact measurement of a chosen charity project on a day-to-day basis.

This is an exciting and unique opportunity to be instrumental in the growth and development of a fast-growing women & children’s charity. We are looking for someone to be an integral part of our team by ‘masterminding’ all aspects of running a chosen community project.

With your positive approach, you will enjoy working proactively and have the ability to juggle multiple tasks and respond to the day to day needs of the programme. The Willats Trust is a grant-making, cross-denominational Christian charity with a vision to see our estates and most deprived communities around the UK transformed by the love of Jesus.

Our mission is to fund relational evangelism through local expressions of church, by working with like-hearted partners to share the good news of Jesus in the areas of greatest deprivation across the UK.

Since our establishment in 1858, sharing the Gospel in these communities has always been our priority. Thanks to the generosity of Mr Willats, who gifted a significant property portfolio to the charity at its inception, we have been able to use funds generated from this property portfolio to finance grant-making to support evangelists, church planters, or other activities related to evangelism and making disciples in the top 20% areas of deprivation across the UK.

Following a strategic review in 2025, we have an ambition to more than double the amount we award in grants from £500,000 to £1m a year. Over the next ten years, we want to see more thriving Jesus-centric churches planted in our areas of greatest deprivation and led by people who look like the communities they are serving. This means part of our grant-making supports immediate tactical needs, but part of our grant-making also seeks to influence the underlying factors which will enable the long-term fulfilment of our vision.  

We believe the kingdom of God works best when we all bring what is in our hand and let God do the multiplication. Our posture is to come alongside like-hearted partners who share the same vision and work together in partnership to support and equip those God has called to these communities.

We are seeking to make two Trustee appointments. Individuals who bring expertise in one or more of the following areas:

- Mission-related: someone with lived experience of planting, leading or supporting Jesus-centric churches in communities experiencing significant deprivation. You will probably also carry a sense of calling that is bigger than a single geographic area and will be able help us think strategically about how we use our resources to contribute to increased church planting and evangelism in our areas of greatest deprivation, alongside others, over the next decade and bring deep relationships with others already serving in this space.

- Commercial property: someone with professional property expertise relating to exiting portfolios of residential and non-purpose-built HMO properties, or property development, who can advise on asset optimisation and property exits over the coming years, which will enable us to give more money away.

- Legal, financial or HR: individuals with strategic leadership skills and a passion to see resources deployed for Kingdom-purpose.

The time commitment required of a Trustee is usually likely to equate to approximately 6-8 days per year.

It’s a crucial and exciting time in the history and further development of The Willats Trust. By being a Trustee you will be able to make a difference across the UK and get to have a ringside seat to see what God is doing, as we know his heart is always for the most overlooked and forgotten. We are full of expectancy for what God is going to do in this current season and want to play our small part in this, alongside others.

Bromley Brighter Beginnings is a local charity founded in 2012 which provides essential baby, child and household items to families facing poverty.
We believe no child should be disadvantaged because of financial hardship, and no parent should have to struggle to meet their family’s basic needs.

Join our team as a Grants & Fundraising Volunteer and help secure the funding that keeps our services going. In this role, you’ll support our Fundraising & Communications Lead with tasks that directly impact how many families we’re able to help.

What You’ll Do

• Research and identify potential grant funding opportunities (“horizon scanning”)
• Help maintain our 'tracker' of funding opportunities
• Assist with drafting and editing grant applications
• Attend relevant online events or webinars to stay up to date with funding trends
• Support the preparation of reports and updates for current funders

 About You

You’ll thrive in this role if you have:

• Experience of researching and / or writing grant applications / funding bids
• Great attention to detail
• Good IT skills
• An understanding of the charity sector (helpful but not essential)
• The ability to work independently and meet deadlines
• A genuine commitment to supporting families living in poverty
