About World Book Day
World Book Day (WBD) is a small national charity with significant reach and profile, consistently punching above our weight. WBD champions reading for fun because it seriously improves lives. In fact, it is the biggest indicator that a child will grow up to enjoy a happier and more successful future. With the spotlight in this National Year of Reading on reversing the decline in children's reading, now is an exciting time to join us.
This is a rare opportunity to help more children, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, develop a lifelong habit of reading for fun and access the improved life chances this brings them.
New World Book Day Trustees
WBD is governed by its board of trustees, 3 of which are appointed by the Publishers' Association and 3 by the Booksellers' Association, each in their capacity as a founding member. The remaining trustees are appointed by the board. New trustees are recruited to infill the gaps identified from regular skills audits. We are now seeking three new trustees, one of whom will be the new Chair of the trustee board, to fill an existing and two upcoming vacancies.
The three new trustees sought are expected to fulfil the following specifications:
· Chair of the Trustee Board: This post is advertised separately
· Publishers' Association Appointed Trustee: This trustee will be an individual from within the publishing industry. We are particularly looking for someone with senior level strategic HR experience, in particular remuneration and reward, performance management and employee health, safety and wellbeing.
· Education/literacy trustee: This person will have senior level strategic education and/or literacy experience, ideally derived from lived experience as an educator, academic or policy expert.
All trustees are expected to bring a commitment to our mission to promote reading for pleasure, offering every child and young person the opportunity to have a book of their own. Trustees will use their specific skills, knowledge or experience to help the board of trustees reach sound decisions, supporting effective governance in a national literacy charity and playing a vital role in its future success.

We’re looking for a Treasurer who wants to join our friendly and committed Board of Trustees to support and develop the work of Maa Shanti.
About Maa Shanti
We offer practical support, advocacy, emotional support, and activities tailored to the needs of South Asian mothers. Services are available in person, online, or in a blended format, and the team speaks Bengali, Urdu, Hindi and Punjabi to ensure culturally sensitive engagement.
What will you be doing?
Key Responsibilities:
- To oversee, approve and present all yearly budgets, quarterly and annual accounts and other relevant financial statements.
- Review budgets, accounts, and financial statements in advance of Board meetings.
- Present regular reports on the organisation's financial position.
- Advise fellow Trustees on a regular basis of the financial status of the charity, and where necessary, recommend action.
- Ensure the charity complies with legislative and regulatory requirements with regards to financial matters.
- Maintain sound financial management of the charity’s resources, ensuring expenditure is in line with the agreed budget and investment activities meet accepted standards and policies.
Time Commitment
- Quarterly Board meetings (which are currently held online).
- 2 away days a year. In addition to Board meetings, there will be some ad hoc work support required in between meetings.
- Overall estimated time commitment is 1 day a month.
- Remote/hybrid working offered if needed.
What are we looking for?
You do not need previous governance experience to join the board. We will provide an induction an ongoing support.
Skills and experience:
- Practicing finance professional (i.e. Accountant, Finance Manager, Finance Director).
- Ideally you will have charity finance experience.
- Ability to communicate and explain financial information to members of the Board.
- Willingness and ability to understand and accept their responsibilities and liabilities as trustees and to act in the best interests of the organisation.
- Ability to think creatively and strategically, exercise good, independent judgement and work effectively as a board member.
- Effective communication skills and willingness to participate actively in discussion.
- Enthusiasm for the work of Maa Shanti.

As Community Engagement & Moderation Manager, you will lead the strategy and day-to-day management of all member-facing spaces, ensuring they operate smoothly, safely, and in alignment with our values-led, anti-capitalist mission. Main Responsibilities/ Key Duties

- Develop and implement engagement strategies that encourage active participation, collaboration, and a sense of belonging among members. Supporting discussion spaces, events, campaigns, and feedback mechanisms that reflect the diversity of the community and promote respectful dialogue.
- Monitoring and moderation of community interactions. - Work closely with technical and operational teams to support the implementation and effective use of moderation tools, reporting systems, and engagement metrics. Contributing to the refinement of workflows for reporting concerns, tracking incidents, and measuring participation and sentiment.
- Support the onboarding and orientation of new members, volunteers, and staff into community platforms, systems, and protocols. This includes communicating expectations, safeguarding responsibilities, and available support resources to promote confident and informed participation.
- Accurate documentation is key. Record engagement activities, moderation actions, member feedback, and emerging issues to inform transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Working with young people in a variety of educational settings, St. Giles’ SOS+ Service delivers early intervention work, through one-to-one mentoring and preventative sessions on violence, vulnerability and exploitation. The mission of SOS+ is to prevent children and young people becoming involved in gangs and youth violence by equipping them with tools, knowledge and support delivered by experts with lived experience.
About this key role
As Volunteer Education Project Coordinator, you’ll take the lead on coordinating project bookings, managing communication with schools and partners, and ensuring smooth delivery of the SOS+ service through first-class administrative, data, and logistical support. Your work will directly contribute to St Giles Trust’s mission to create safer communities and empower young people to thrive.
What you’ll be doing:
· Coordinating bookings for SOS+ education projects and managing the team’s delivery calendar.
· Supporting income generation by bringing in new Spot Purchase bookings.
· Recording accurate project data, monitoring deliverables, and flagging barriers to success.
· Organising travel, accommodation, and logistics for virtual and face-to-face delivery.
· Assisting with data collection, evaluation, and performance reporting.
· Following up on business development leads and supporting project growth.
What we are looking for
· A proven track record of providing efficient, high-quality administrative support
· Experience of coordinating bookings, managing calendars, booking travel and accommodation, and providing high-quality customer service via phone calls, emails, and in meetings
· Experience of project coordination, ideally including partnership work with schools and external organisations to achieve agreed outcomes

Who we are
For 15 years, Tutor Trust has been changing lives through high-quality tutoring, building long-term partnerships with schools across the North. We’re driven by a vision of an education system that provides excellence, equity and opportunity to every child and young person in the UK. Last year, we supported over 6,000 pupils across 149 schools, with 92% either entitled to Pupil Premium funding or attending schools in low-income areas. Our impact is proven: primary pupils made 7.07 scaled score points progress in their SATs, while secondary pupils made 0.86 grades progress at GCSE level.
We recruit talented university students, many from the communities we serve, who act as relatable role models while delivering evidence-based tutoring. Our approach works: Education Endowment Foundation trials showed our pupils made three months’ additional progress in maths, with even greater gains for those eligible for Free School Meals.
Following the end of the National Tutoring Programme, we’re continuing to successfully navigate challenges while maintaining our school partnerships and impact. About the role
We’re looking for two trustees who will join our board of Trustees and sit on our Education Committee, bringing the voice of secondary school leadership to our board. This is a chance to contribute to something genuinely transformative during a period of both challenge and opportunity for education, working towards a future where excellence and equity go hand in hand across the North and beyond.
Who we are looking for
We’re looking for people with secondary school leadership experience, such as headteachers, executive heads, or senior leaders in multi-academy trusts, who understand the pressures schools face and the realities of serving disadvantaged communities. You’ll bring an understanding of boards and governance, demonstrating strategic thinking and appropriate challenge, alongside a genuine passion for closing the attainment gap and creating opportunity for all young people to succeed.
We’re particularly keen to hear from leaders across Liverpool, Merseyside, Leeds, Yorkshire, and the North East. We are interested in people with experience of school improvement, Ofsted, or broader curriculum expertise alongside secondary leadership.
While our primary focus is on educational leadership, we’re also interested in hearing from people with expertise in digital, fundraising, PR and marketing; skills that will be valuable as we implement our ambitious growth strategy and build our vision of an education system rooted in excellence and equity.
Time commitment
Board meetings are held six times a year, typically at 8:00 a.m. for two hours, with most meetings conducted online and some held in person in Manchester. As members of the Education Committee, you’ll also attend termly committee meetings online, along with an annual half-day strategy session held in person. The overall time commitment is equivalent to up to a day per month.

Governors for Schools operates across England and Wales to improve educational standards and ensure all children and young people have the chance to realise their full potential.

Governors for Schools recruits and matches volunteers with school governing boards and provides ongoing support.
What’s involved?
There are governor vacancies across England and Wales. Some schools are also looking for remote governors who don't need to live near the school they support.
Governors volunteer at board level to set the strategic vision for their school. This involves constructively challenging current processes, using your unique skills to support senior leaders, and overseeing school finances. You’ll be involved in areas such as monitoring, budget management, and data analysis. As well as putting your expertise to good use, you’ll have the opportunity to develop your professional skills. Ultimately, you’ll work towards facilitating the delivery of a broad and exciting curriculum and oversee wellbeing and inclusion initiatives. Governance represents a fantastic opportunity to develop yourself while making a real impact on the education of children and young people.
Governors work collaboratively with the headteacher and other members of the board, including parents and school staff. In most schools, full board meetings are held termly, as are committee meetings. Many governors will sit on a committee linked to their expertise or interests, such as teaching and learning or finance and resources. In addition to attending meetings, governors will need to read the papers in advance, complete training courses, and occasionally visit their school.
Governors usually support schools for a period of four years and with an estimated time commitment of 7 hours per month. During these hours, you will attend meetings, read papers, attend training sessions, and make occasional visits to school.
Who can be a governor?
The most important part of being a governor is the ability to ask questions, provide support and have the best interests of the school at heart. You don't have to be a parent or have experience in education to become a governor. Schools seek a wide range of skills to support the board, including finance, HR, and data analysis.
Boards also need governors with a diversity of backgrounds and lived experiences to ensure a range of perspectives are considered during board meetings.
Schools welcome professional experience, as well as community insight and experience of working collaboratively.
You need to be aged 18 or above and there are certain criminal convictions that would exclude you from the role. A Disclosure and Barring Service check will be carried out by the school.
What’s the process?
You can find out more about the school governor role by attending one of our recruitment webinars.
You can complete your online profile on the website, including your motivation to take on the role, your skills and your school preferences. Your regional Partnership Manager will then look at vacancies that match your requirements. Once a school is identified, you will have the opportunity to discuss the role with them in more detail, visit the school, and observe a meeting. If appointed, a DBS check will take place and, in some cases, the school will seek references.

Educational partnerships and community developers wanted to help East London Waterworks Park deliver its environmental learning goals
East London Waterworks Park is a volunteer-led charity that has won a 2024 New London Architecture award and raised £2m towards buying land from the Department for Education to transform the 14-acre Thames Water Depot on Lea Bridge Road on the border of Waltham Forest and Hackney, into a new biodiverse park with natural swimming ponds, forest schools and community spaces.
We are looking for a volunteer to lead partnership development and community outreach efforts for East London Waterworks Park. This role focuses on building and nurturing relationships with learning bodies to increase the opportunity for partnership opportunities.
The role would include:
- Researching and identifying new opportunities for environmental learning initiatives
- Building and nurturing relationships with schools, education bodies, and nonprofit organizations
- Supporting outreach efforts to promote ELWP’s existing learning programmes

Our roles are quite flexible. We hope that people bring radical imagination, peace with nature, and courageous inclusiveness to the role.

This will in turn provide a sense of stewardship over the land once the park is created and student's ideas have been built into the park. Creating learning projects with educational institutions will also help our charity with the strategy to buy the land through showing the value of our environmental education programme before we create the park.
