Accounts Assistant
Location: Head Office, Walton Lodge, Aylesbury
Hours: Part-time 22.5 hours per week.

We are seeking an Accounts Assistant to provide support to the existing Accounts Payable Assistant and Finance Officers to maintain an efficient and accurate Accounts Payable process. This role has become necessary due to the expanding operations of the Charity, following a recent merger with South Bucks Hospice. With more growth expected longer term, this role has the potential to evolve further for the right candidate.
What will I be doing?
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a small and friendly team based in Walton Lodge in Aylesbury, helping the Finance Team to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the department.
Assist in all areas of Finance, most predominantly the Accounts Payable process, covering both the charity and retail activities which will include (but not limited to):
- Managing the receipt, authorisation and posting of all invoice payments on to our
accounting package (SAGE) - Ensuring the prompt and correct authorisation of invoices, in accordance with the
authorisation policy; and coded to the correct account codes - Assisting with the supplier and expense payments
- Liaising with the utility suppliers and keeping meter readings up-to-date
- Managing the intercompany account
- Performing monthly supplier and creditor control account reconciliation
- Assisting with the monthly accruals & prepayment process
- Ensuring all invoices are correctly handled and recorded for VAT purposes
- Managing the debit & credit card payments
- Working closely with the team on achieving a timely month end & the year end accounts
process - Assisting the Finance Officer in any other aspect of the month end process
About You
Required Experience/ Qualifications:
- AAT or studying towards an appropriate accountancy qualification, with good technical
knowledge of book keeping and basic accounting adjustments such as accruals - Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong organisational skills to ensure regular month/year end deadlines are met
- Ability to work as part of a small team as well as independently
- Ability to demonstrate accuracy and attention to detail
Desirable Experience/Qualifications:
- Familiarity with accounting software, ideally SAGE, and other IT packages (Excel)
- Previous experience working in a finance function within the charity sector, ideally within
Accounts Payable - A keen understanding of VAT

About the Role
The Management Accountant will work closely with the Head of Finance to enhance financial services and provide supportive management accounting at Solace. You will work alongside the Assistant Management Accountants to produce accurate and timely internal and external financial reports.
The Management Accountant will have line management responsibilities for the two Assistant Management Accountants.
In this role, you will prepare monthly income and expenditure reports for more complex allocated projects and the organisation as a whole, the monthly cashflow, funder reports and lead on the preparation of the budget and half yearly forecasting. You will ensure that management accounts are produced within established deadlines with commentary of financial reporting variances. You you will meet regularly with budget holders and be able to explain the accounts to non-finance colleagues. Provide project terms and financial information to the Director of Finance and Business Support and Head of Finance.
As part of your support to our business development plans you will provide fast responses to requests for support for pricing of new bids, grant applications, tenders and provision of other relevant financial information.
As part of the annual statutory reporting you will assist and support in the preparation of the year-end close and audit.
At all times you will support the Head of Finance to develop a business partnering approach between Finance and the widder organisation.
About You
The successful candidate will be a nearly or fully qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, CCAB) or qualified by experience and desirably with knowledge of charity SORP reporting requirements, with charity experience on multi projects accounting.
Able to produce accurate reporting on timely manner and able to work under pressure to meet deadlines. Strong team player as well as working independently. Can work with non-finance budget holders with clear communication skills. Have strong knowledge of Excel and of working with finance systems.

Responsibilities:
Accounting & Finance Support
- Lead on the daily accounting operations including journals, accruals, prepayments, and general ledger maintenance
- Lead on month-end and year-end close processes as per the organisation month end timetable

Position Overview
As Financial Controller, you will report to the Director of Finance & Resources and will lead the day-to-day finance operation, taking ownership of transactional accounting and the month-end close process. You'll maintain the general ledger, ensure data integrity across systems, and manage accounts payable, accounts receivable and credit control functions. The role involves coordinating payroll, preparing management accounts and VAT returns, supporting budget preparation and assisting with year-end accounts and audits. Responsibilities
· Lead and oversee the month-end close process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting
· Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, including credit control activities (with support from Finance Assistants)
· Maintain the general ledger and ensure data integrity between accounting systems

Interim Head of Finance | 6 Month + | £300 - £325 per day (outside IR35) | Hybrid | London
For a small London-based charity, we are recruiting an Interim Head of Finance for 6 + months, starting ASAP. Reporting to C-suite, the main accountabilities will focus on providing insightful monthly management accounts and reporting to the Senior Leadership Team and Trustees / Board, and to ensure the correct allocation of expenditure to a high number of grant funds.
