THE ROLE
You'll deliver accessible homelessness prevention support in community settings across Kingston Upon Thames — helping people connect with services and support before they reach crisis point.
You'll build and strengthen partnerships with a wide range of local agencies, including the Housing Allocations team, CAB, food/energy poverty and debt management charities, legal advice, employment support, and community inclusion groups. You'll bring these services together at around 20 events a year, creating informal, welcoming spaces where clients can engage with the support on offer.
You'll also provide direct information, advice and guidance to around 100 clients a year, delivering swift, impactful interventions that reduce homelessness risk — advocating and mediating on their behalf as they navigate complex systems.

About the role

Main Purposes of the Post

About this key role
You will be embedded in the trauma team, working closely with clinicians and hospital staff to provide support for young people admitted to the Major Trauma Centre right through to their discharge back into the community, including access to appropriate longer-term support. You will be based in our psychosocial team working with adult males (over 18 years old). You need to be committed to supporting people who use our services to make positive changes to prepare them for release into the community, and you will arrange continuity of care. You will work in collaboration with the clinical team and integrated working is a key element of this role. You will work within the prison setting and contribute towards the wider prison drug strategy.
Having experience of supporting people with complex health needs including substance use, you will bring knowledge and commitment to deliver drug and alcohol treatment. You will have a non-judgemental attitude and a desire to support the lives of people who use our services to be healthier and safer by delivering a high-quality service.
Experience of working with drug and alcohol use is essential. You will be a competent communicator, with the ability to work independently and be comfortable and enthusiastic, both with the highlighted client group and working in partnership with other service providers. Position: Assistant Key Worker, Women’s Community Project
Location: The role is based at Alana House in Reading, our Alana House service covers the communities of Berkshire, Oxford City and South Oxfordshire and travel may be required across all locations.
Contract: Permanent full time – 37 hours per week Monday to Friday.
Working pattern to be agreed within the hours of: Mon and Tues 8.30am-5pm | Weds 8.30am-7pm | Thurs 8.30am-5pm | Fri 8.30am-4pm
Salary: within the range of £25,878 to £28,557 per annum
Alana House is PACT’s flagship community project that uses a holistic approach to support and empower women. We offer a confidential, women-only, non-judgemental space and our services are delivered for women by women to ensure a safe, comfortable and trauma informed environment for those accessing support.
About the role:
As an Assistant Key Worker, you will work closely with the Alana House team to support service delivery and help create a welcoming and safe environment. You will focus on developing practical skills, actively supporting clients while learning best practice and building your experience through a range of learning opportunities to help you to grow in the role.
No day is the same at Alana House and your activities may include:
· Responding to phone calls and welcoming visitors to the service
· Supporting service user events and activities
· Liaising with a range of other professionals and partner agencies, promoting collaboration and advocating for clients’ needs
· Supporting clients across a range of holistic recovery pathways
· Co-facilitating groups and helping to manage our community café
About you:
As an Assistant Key Worker, you will bring professional, personal, or academic experience of supporting people experiencing multiple disadvantages. You will also have a professional interest in domestic abuse and supporting people in, or at risk of entering, the criminal justice system. You will understand the importance of maintaining professional boundaries and be committed to delivering high quality, person-centred support. With a willingness to learn, you will be supported through comprehensive training and ongoing development opportunities will be provided.

The Sickle Cell Society (SCS) is the only national charity in the UK that supports and represents people affected by a sickle cell disorder. We provide information, advice and support to enable people to improve their overall quality of life. Over 19,000 people in the UK have a sickle cell disorder, an inherited condition that predominantly affects people of Black African and Black Caribbean heritage; and to a lesser extent people of Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, South Asian and Central/South American heritage.
Job Purpose:
To assist the Fundraising Manager in the delivery of our Fundraising Strategy and on-going development to achieve our fundraising priorities and targets. An exciting and varied role, we are seeking a strong team player, and someone with the confidence and initiative to help develop and grow charitable income. The post holder will be someone with a ‘can-do’ attitude and the enthusiasm to want to learn and get things done. We are a small, friendly and closely knit team of 20 skilled and highly committed staff and over 50 active volunteers.
The post-holder will work closely with the Fundraising Manager, and wider team to provide an engaging supporter journey and timely, efficient donor care to existing and new supporters of the Society. Responsible for helping the team meet our agreed income targets for celebratory giving, challenge events, community fundraising and corporate payroll giving initiatives.; the post-holder will be keen on developing their Fundraising career and interested in expanding their use of CRM databases, data management and the production of reports for effective donor stewardship.
You will be responsible for the membership and donors’ database (Beacon) keeping it up to date and reporting back on results, whilst ensuring data compliance and implementation of data. You will be highly proficient in the use of business IT systems in particular Microsoft Excel to analyse data, and you will also have at least one year’s experience, or equivalent, in producing detailed and insightful reports.
The post-holder will be a confident communicator and collaborator with proven relationship building and creative and innovative fundraising skills. You will also support the development of our fundraising communications, monitoring performance across all channels driving best practice and income growth. You will generate and develop engaging fundraising communications and be responsible for your own copywriting, including thanking our wonderful donors via the most appropriate communication channels.
This varied role will give you the opportunity to further your fundraising skills across a broad range of income generating activities as well as build strong, professional relationships to benefit the SCS’ charitable objectives.
