Battersea is two years into an exciting phase of innovation and transformation as part of a five-year strategy to be here for every dog and cat. With increased investment in income generation, we have recently expanded our team to drive the growth necessary to achieve our organisational goals. Our fundraising team connects the journey of the animals in our care to the wider public, demonstrating how their contributions enable us to support every dog and cat. This is an opportunity to play a pivotal role in the implementation of our new strategy.
This role leads the ongoing development and implementation of Battersea's Supporter Experience strategy, creating relevant and engaging supporter experiences that build loyalty, increase long-term value and support income growth. Working across Public Fundraising and the wider Income Generation directorate, the role is responsible for shaping supporter journeys, embedding supporter-centred approaches and using insight, data and technology to continuously improve engagement, retention and supporter value.
What we can offer you:
In return for your commitment to our cause and to recognise the value of our employees, Battersea offers a range of benefits to support the wellbeing of our employees. These include:
- 28 days of annual leave (plus 8 days paid public holidays) per year.
- Discounted gym memberships and cycle to work schemes.
- Employee Assistance Programme and access to Wellbeing Resources.
- Generous pension contributions - up to 10% employer contribution.
- Free healthcare cash plan, where you can claim for a range of treatment including dental, optical, physiotherapy, chiropody and acupuncture every year.
- Annual interest-free season ticket loans.
We are also committed to providing learning and development to our employees. During your time with us, we provide support for your professional and career development, including access to digital and in-person training programmes, leadership and management training, mentoring and much more.
Our hybrid working model:
We operate a 50% onsite hybrid working model, with our office-based staff splitting their time between site based and home working. This enables our office-based staff to balance the benefits of home working with onsite collaboration and maintaining a connection to our cause.
Diversity and inclusion:
We are committed to providing a welcoming and inclusive experience for all staff, volunteers and trustees and those hoping to join us. We operate an anonymised shortlisting process and actively seek to ensure our process is fair and equitable for all.
We understand the value of diverse voices, perspectives, and experiences to help us deliver even more for our dogs and cats, and we welcome applicants from all sections of the community.
As a Disability Confident Committed Employer we will ask about any adjustments you may need at application and/or interview stage, and if you are offered a role with us, we’ll talk to you about any workplace adjustments you may need to help you perform at your best. If you would like to talk more about this, please contact us. Greyscale copies of the recruitment pack are also available on request.
More about us:
At Battersea, we aim to never turn away a dog or cat in need of help. We give each one lots of love, expert care and get to know their characters and quirks so we can find them a new home that’s just right for them. Join us and help us be here for every dog and cat, wherever they are, for as long as they need us.
Acceptable use of AI:
At Battersea, we value expertise. We recognise each candidate that applies to us will have a range of expertise they can offer us, so we want to hear about this in your own words. We understand the support that generative artificial intelligence (AI) software can offer but it can also lead to numerous applications presenting as generic and impersonal. This makes it difficult to gain understanding of your unique experience.
To best showcase yourself, we encourage you to write your responses without the assistance of AI. If you require the use of AI software to aid in completing your application, we ask you use the generative responses as a prompt for writing your answers and avoid copying and pasting. You must also ensure the information presented in your application accurately reflects your experience.
Closing date:
28th July 2026, 11:59pm
All applications must be submitted before the closing date advertised. We reserve the right to close the vacancy early if a high volume of applications is received.
Interview date(s):
First round (online) - 5th August 2026
Second round (in person, it may include a task) - 11th and/or 12th August 2026

This is a rare opportunity to help shape a new £475,000 programme funded by The National Lottery Community Fund that puts communities at the heart of nature recovery and environmental action across Kent and Medway.
We are looking for a passionate and people-focused Community Organising Officer to help communities create lasting positive change for nature, climate and local wellbeing.
What you'll be doing:
This exciting role sits within our Wilder Streets, Wilder Lives programme, which works alongside communities facing barriers to accessing nature and environmental opportunities. Using a community organising approach, you will help local people identify priorities, build connections, develop leadership skills and take action to improve their neighbourhoods for both people and wildlife.
Working closely with residents, community groups, local authorities and project partners, you will support the co-design and delivery of a wide range of initiatives, including community greening projects, volunteering opportunities, sustainable living workshops, environmental training, BioBlitzes and community events.
At the heart of this role is relationship building. You will spend time listening to communities, understanding local needs and strengths, and helping people turn ideas into meaningful action. Through your work, you will empower individuals and groups to become confident leaders and champions for nature in their own neighbourhoods.
You will also have the opportunity to develop your own skills through specialist training in Community Organising and Climate Literacy, alongside learning from experienced partners and colleagues.
Your key responsibilities will include:
Community Organising and Engagement – Building trusted relationships with residents, developing local leaders, facilitating community conversations and supporting communities to identify priorities and take collective action.
Partnership Working – Collaborating with local authorities, grassroots organisations and project partners to deliver a coordinated, place-based approach to community engagement and environmental improvement.
Project Development and Support – Helping communities develop ideas into viable projects, supporting small grants and seed funding opportunities, and enabling local groups to access resources and support.
Events, Training and Volunteering – Supporting and delivering workshops, volunteering activities, environmental training sessions and community events that bring people together and build long-term capacity for change.
Monitoring and Learning – Gathering insights, maintaining records and contributing to project evaluation, reporting and shared learning across the programme.
What we need you to bring:
You are an enthusiastic, approachable and highly organised individual who is passionate about empowering people and supporting communities to create positive change.
You understand that lasting environmental change happens when local people are at the centre of decision-making, and you are motivated by helping communities develop the confidence, skills and connections needed to make a difference.
You will thrive in this role if you:
Enjoy building relationships and are skilled at connecting with people from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences.
Are a confident listener and communicator who can build trust, facilitate conversations and bring people together around shared goals.
Have experience in community engagement, community organising, development work or similar people-centred roles.
Are passionate about social justice, environmental action and creating opportunities for everyone to engage with and benefit from nature.
Have experience working alongside diverse communities, particularly those facing barriers to participation or who have traditionally been underrepresented in the environmental sector.
Can support people to develop ideas, solve problems and turn ambitions into practical action.
Are comfortable working collaboratively with partners, community groups, volunteers and stakeholders.
Have strong organisational skills, can manage competing priorities and maintain accurate records.
Are adaptable, resilient and able to work flexibly in response to community needs.
Are committed to Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging and actively champion these values in your work.
We recognise that local knowledge, lived experience and trusted relationships are invaluable, and we welcome applications from people who already have strong connections to the communities involved in the project. If you are passionate about helping communities lead change for nature and creating a fairer, greener future for everyone, we would love to hear from you.
Please read the job description for the full person specification.
A DBS check will be required for this role.
