We currently have space on our Board for up to eight new Trustees who want to work with us to help improve university communities so that every student gets the mental health support they need to reach their goals.
At Student Minds, we’re working to improve university communities so that no student is held back by their mental health. So it should come as no surprise that we are keen to reflect the communities we serve, maintain a diverse board and ensure student voices are represented. This is key to our mission and our continued impact.
You may be thinking that you don't have the experience because you haven't been a trustee before, or because charity governance isn't your field. Think again!

Key responsibilities
Student Minds Trustees are expected to commit to the following:
-
Preparation and attendance at four board meetings a year. Board meetings are held online and take place on weekdays from 5 - 7.30 pm.

Preparation and attendance at two board away days each year, usually from 12.30 - 5 pm. Board away days are in person and usually take place in Leeds. Travel expenses can be claimed.

Ad-hoc meetings and conversations with the senior management team as required. This usually constitutes approximately a further five working days a year.
If appointed, you will receive the training and onboarding you need to be a confident, contributing member of the board. We are also able to provide you with a board buddy to support you in your first few months.

What We Are Looking For
We’re looking for young trustees who bring fresh ideas, big-picture thinking, and a collaborative spirit. You’ll approach the role with openness and integrity, ready to learn, grow, and champion Young Citizens beyond the boardroom.
We welcome applications from young people aged 18–25 who are passionate about active citizenship and youth voice. You do not need prior board experience - training and support will be provided. We’re looking for potential, and learning as you go is part of the role. If you have experience or interest in any of the following areas, that’s great (but not essential):
- Citizenship education or youth engagement
- Marketing, communications, or influencing
- Business growth and partnerships
- Digital innovation or technology
- Fundraising and income generation
We also welcome diverse experiences or educational backgrounds, including leadership, public service, law, finance, policy, or community involvement.

Role Requirements
The role requires around 4–6 hours per month, including preparation and engagement between meetings. Trustees attend four board meetings a year (usually weekday evenings in London), monthly online finance updates, and an annual Away Day. Appointments are for an initial three-year term, with potential renewal. While day-to-day operations are led by the Chief Executive and senior team, trustees hold ultimate responsibility for governance and compliance.

Our Board
NYJO's current Board consists of seven Trustees with expertise spanning digital communications, governance, HR, jazz industry knowledge, music education, finance, and fundraising. We are pleased to have diversified our board significantly in recent years, knowing that diverse boards make better decisions. Ensuring that our board is representative of the communities in which we work and the young people that we serve remains a priority.
Board Responsibilities
NYJO Trustees are expected to play a full role as a board director and trustee in accordance with charity and company regulations, and governance best practice. Responsibilities include:
- Providing strategic direction, setting overall policy, defining goals, setting targets, and evaluating performance against agreed targets
- Maintaining a collaborative and supportive relationship with senior staff and fellow trustees
- Proactively advocating for our work, championing the transformative power of jazz education and the many benefits that young people derive from creative music-making
- Safeguarding the financial stability, reputation and values of the charity
- Protecting the interest of donors and current and future beneficiaries, acting as guardians of NYJO's assets and taking due care over their security, deployment and proper application
- Ensuring that NYJO complies with its Articles and Objects, charity and company law, and any other relevant legislation or regulations
What We're Looking For
We are keen to recruit Trustees who:
- Are committed to NYJO's mission and will advocate for our work
- Bring strategic judgement, vision and creative thinking to the charity
- Can provide sound, independent reasoning and constructive challenge to our management team
- Are numerate, with the ability to understand budgets and charity finance
- Are willing to devote the necessary time and effort to be a Trustee, and to undertake relevant training and appraisal

At this time, our priority is to appoint an individual with professional experience as a UK based jazz musician, as this perspective will complement our current board's existing expertise and help ensure our leadership reflects the communities and artists we support.

We are looking for a finance professional to join our engaged and friendly board as Treasurer, with specific oversight of the charity’s financial management. While day-to-day financial administration is carried out by employees or external providers, the Treasurer works closely with them and the Board to ensure sound financial governance. The Treasurer provides financial leadership, helps trustees understand the organisation’s finances, and ensures that the charity meets its financial and statutory obligations.
You will have a qualification in Financial Management, Accounting, or Audit, and a strong understanding of financial management in the voluntary or business sectors. Previous charity experience is not necessary, but a willingness to undertake training is essential (usually one day).
You will have the ability to communicate financial information clearly to those without financial expertise and be a strategic thinker, with the ability to balance financial scrutiny with broader trustee responsibilities.
Our board meet once a month (either virtually or in person in London) for around 90 minutes. We aim to have strategy days twice a year. You will meet with the CEO and Finance Manager once a month, and be available for ad hoc emails, advice. Trustees are usually appointed for a three-year term, which can usually be extended.
We will provide access to training (typically one day) if you do not have direct experience in charity finance.
You will also bring a commitment to the values, aims, and objectives of the charity, and a desire to help children and young people who have experienced grief.

We are a small charity, with an annual income under £500,000, working nationally across the UK. Despite being small, we are the largest alopecia charity in the UK and have big ambitions to continue our growth and development, reaching more people than ever before. We agreed a new strategy in May 2025, and are committed to our key goal, which is to increase our reach, particularly in the communities that haven’t yet found us.
We have a fantastic and dedicated staff team (5.4 FTE) and board of Trustees. We also rely upon the generosity of volunteers, many of whom have personal experience of alopecia themselves. Alopecia UK receives no statutory funding from the government and is funded by community fundraising, donations, funding grants, and corporate partnerships.
Alopecia UK Trustee Board
The Alopecia UK Trustee Board are a group of dedicated volunteers who are committed to Alopecia’s aims.
The Trustee Board meets four times a year (two face-to-face meetings and two virtual meetings). Face-to-face meetings tend to be held on Saturdays from approximately 10am-4pm. Virtual meetings tend to be held midweek from approximately 6.30-8.30pm.
Trustees are encouraged to participate in charity campaigns and attend flagship events, e.g., our Big Weekend and Alton Towers trip. Trustees are not paid, but out-of-pocket expenses are reimbursed. Trustees serve at least three years
To provide support, community, and education to improve the lives of those affected by alopecia.

What You’ll Do

- Attend quarterly board meetings in person at our offices in Orpington and/or online, reviewing monthly management accounts, preparation for and actions arising from board meetings plus ad hoc support working from home.

We are seeking a new Treasurer with experience as a qualified accountant, to drive the financial sustainability our charity supporting unpaid carers.
What will you be doing?
Our Board of Trustees is made up of 11 trustees from a range of backgrounds including, health, social care, education and the private sector.
Demand for our services is higher than it has ever been. Cases are increasingly complex and resources stretched. Changes to the funding landscape, including the Integrated Care Board (ICB) and North East Combined Authority (NECA) present both challenges and opportunities for the organisation. As the ICB looks to make savings, new regional opportunities are arising with NECA, which require collaboration across a number of carer organisations.
We are one year into our 5 year strategic cycle, which sets out clear priorities and goals. To help us grow and thrive, and, deliver our Corporate Strategy, we need a Treasurer who can:
- Oversee our finances and keep us sustainable
- Ensure we meet charity requirements
- Support the management team with budgets, reporting, and good financial practice.
The Treasurer will play a vital role in guiding our Trustees in overseeing our finances and helping us succeed. We’re looking for someone who is a qualified accountant and is willing to give a few hours a month to support the work we do.

Join us as a trustee and you’ll help ensure the good governance of CBM UK. You’ll provide financial scrutiny of fund management and supervise the performance of the CEO. Ultimately, you will help ensure our resources are used as effectively as possible to serve people with disabilities in some of the world’s poorest countries.
You’ll join a Board of 11 directors who have experience across international development, education, law, financial services and management. We’re looking for two new trustees who bring skills in:
- business (particularly social enterprise and start up),
- accountancy (with understanding of UK SORP), or
- innovative approaches to international development, including alternative models of development financing.

We are seeking up to 3 trustees who can bring specialist expertise in one or more of the following areas, complementing the skills of the Chair and wider Board:

- Strong personal or professional networks with potential corporate, philanthropic or major donors.
