The Senior Philanthropy Manager (Maternity Cover) will play a pivotal role in the delivery of its major donor programme. Reporting to the Head of Philanthropy, this role sits at the heart of the philanthropy team, combining hands-on major gifts fundraising with oversight of systems, processes and pipeline management. The postholder will shape and steward a growing portfolio of high-value supporters during a critical phase of the Hall’s capital appeal, while ensuring that donor engagement activity is coordinated, consistent and effective.

As Senior Philanthropy Manager, you will:
- Report to the Head of Philanthropy and line manage two direct reports – Senior Prospect Researcher and Philanthropy Coordinator – fostering clarity, structure and confidence within your team.
- Manage a personal portfolio of major donors, stewarding relationships typically in the £20,000–£500,000 range.
- Work to a team income target, generating funds from HNWIs through major gifts, mid-value gifts and legacies.
- Own and drive the major donor pipeline, ensuring clear next steps, momentum and follow-through across cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
- Be donor-facing, through regular face-to-face meetings, cultivation activity and events, including evening engagement as part of stewardship.
- Ensure robust processes are in place for tracking, thanking and income processing, with delivery support from the Philanthropy Coordinator.
- Act as a central coordinating figure for major donor activity, working closely with the Head of Philanthropy, Development Director and selected Philanthropy Board members.
- Lead on the rollout of donor communications, including tailored donor stewardship and wider impact reporting.
- Work closely with other development colleagues who focus on the Hall’s Friends and Patrons programmes, Trust and Foundation approaches and Events.
Essential skills and experience:
- Demonstrable experience of managing and stewarding high-value individual donors, ideally within a major gifts or upper mid-value context.
- Experience of personally securing c.£50K+ donations from HNWIs – please ensure that examples of personally secured gifts from HNWIs, including £value, are included on your CV. It would also be helpful to include context e.g., uplift, new donor
- Confidence working with fundraising databases and systems (ideally Tessitura), and a strong understanding of GDPR and DPA 2018.
- Strong organisational and process skills, with the ability to keep complex, multi-strand activity moving and well-tracked.
- Experience of working collaboratively in a matrixed environment with senior stakeholders and volunteers.
- Some line management or mentoring experience, with the ability to provide clear direction and practical support. However, this is not a heavily people-management-focused role
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence engaging donors in a range of settings.
- A proactive, detail-oriented approach, combined with sound judgement and professionalism.
Desirable:
- Arts, culture or heritage fundraising experience.
- Experience of working on or alongside a capital appeal.

About Us:
The Cowrie Scholarship Foundation, established in June 2020 (Charity Number 1191471), was set up to enable talented economically disadvantaged Black British students to attend UK universities by providing full scholarships. Black British students are found to be under-represented at many of our universities, and individuals from affluent areas are five times more likely than those from deprived areas to attend a high-tariff university. The Cowrie Scholarship Foundation aims to remove one fundamental obstacle – the financial cost of university education.
The Foundation has already allocated 70 scholarships and maintains a busy annual schedule of activity across partner and scholarship management; fundraising, communications and governance. The charity is led by the founder, Professor Richard Oreffo, and the Trustees, with the support of a freelance Project Manager.
Job Description
An experienced Project Assistant role is offered on a consultancy (freelance contract, applicants must be self-employed) basis, initially on a 6 month contract with opportunity to extend a further 6 months; possible renewal to follow. This represents an incredible opportunity for a hands on delivery role to be involved in a very active, transformational education charity.
Key targets for the role are:
- Undertake day-to-day administration of the charity using Gmail, Google Drive and (Beacon) CRM database;
- Support the Project Manager in the operations of the charity, including in fundraising, events, and Scholar and partner collaboration, compliance and working.
- Support the founder, trustee board and Project Manager to develop strong relationship with core university and business partners, ambassadors, supporters, Scholars, alumni, and Friends of Cowrie;
- Undertake social media planning and scheduling;
- Support the running of the mentoring programme for Cowrie Scholars;
- Liaising with universities and corporate partners to share opportunities and information.
About You
You will be looking for a challenging and demanding role as a project officer and administrator in a
fast-paced charity.
- You must have at least 3+ years’ demonstrable experience in a comparable role in the charitable or corporate sector, and you will be motivated and passionate to achieve our aims as we are.
- Demonstrable familiarity with Gmail and Google Drive, CRM databases is essential (Beacon experience desirable), and social media scheduling would be an advantage.
- The ability to be proactive, a motivated self-starter, have discretion and be organised is essential. The role is not suited to entry-level applicants or applicants needing supervision or extensive training.
- Experience in Higher Education sector is desirable but not essential.
About the role:
The role is offered on an initial basis of 6 months’ probation to be upgraded to a year, with the opportunity to renew.
A weekly commitment of 10 hours per week will be paid at £25/hour. Times worked will be negotiable, but some key hours to be worked on a Thursday to support the founder. The role is predominantly virtual and the successful candidate will provide all their own working equipment, including a computer and office space. Annual opportunities to meet up with the board in person and scholars at a fundraiser annually will be available, but attendance for the Project Officer is not mandatory.
Duties to include:
Administration / Governance
i) Day to day running of the charity’s ‘virtual’ office (email / Microsoft Office / use of Beacon CRM database / Google Drive).
ii) Managing correspondence and email flagging, filing, online storage / filing and retrieval of documents.
iii) Setting dates for trustee meetings and updating board papers.
iv) Prepare board notes for regular board meetings.
v) Support the Project Manager and founder with any other project tasks.
Partner Management
i) Ensure regular communications are sent to Scholars and universities as required.
ii) Ensure Cowrie donors (businesses and individuals) are kept up-to-date with progress.
iii) Manage administration with regards to university partnerships and annual student intake.
Communications and Events
Support the marketing communication sub-group of the Board; elements will include:
i) Assist with coordinating a range of events each year including annual summer events and the annual student festival.
ii) Handling and supporting with press / external enquiries for Professor Richard Oreffo.
iii) Assist with implementing planned content through social media to engage fundraising activities, potential donors, universities and students.
Consultancy Terms
i) The role will be paid hourly - initially typically around 10 hours a week as required (will require typically hours on a Thursday) (timings and induction to be agreed) at a rate of £25 an hour on an initial six month consultancy contract with the opportunity, on joint agreement between the Charity and consultant, to extend to a further 6 months and by negotiation thereafter.
ii) Hours – Flexible working hours across the week – with ~3 core hours on a Thursday. Occasional early evening board meetings (~2 hours, 3 times per year).
iii) Location – work from home with regular meet ups with members of the board by MS Teams/Zoom and occasional UK meet up F2F as events allow/required (travel expenses will be covered on top of hours worked).
iv) Must have access to own computer, appropriate software (MS Office etc.) and phone.
v) Please note this is a freelance opportunity and as such, will require the successful individual to manage their own tax, national insurance, invoicing and associated activity upon entering a contract for services with the Charity.

Our client is looking to appoint a Regular Giving and Legacy Giving Manager to oversee a sector-leading, multi-channel appeal programme to increase numbers of gifts and donors to the University. Following the launch of this leading universities bold and ambitious strategy they are preparing to launch a comprehensive fundraising campaign. The Regular Giving and Legacy Giving team will play a pivotal role in bringing about a step-change in regular, mid-value and legacy donations to the University.
You will oversee and implement the overall strategy and supporter journey for alumni and donors primarily through direct mail, telephone, email and social media.
After an internal promotion, an exciting role has arisen with opportunities for the postholder to oversee an award-winning acquisition campaign, a brand-new mid-value programme and a successful legacy marketing programme. You will be instrumental in building collaboration with the Alumni Engagement team to promote philanthropy and take alumni on a journey to their first gift.
This position is based in West London (Central Line) offering a hybrid working pattern of mostly 2 days a week which are Tuesdays and Thursdays, with some requirements to come in 3 days per week when needed.
What you would be doing:
Working across the Regular Giving & Legacy Giving team, you will oversee supporter journeys for donors, working on cases for support, appeal development and data segmentation. You will have the opportunity to pilot new ideas as well as delivering a mature and sector-leading programme.
Working across Advancement, you will build relationships with key internal stakeholders especially the Alumni Engagement team, Major Gift, and Event teams to capitalise on opportunities to embed regular giving and legacy messaging in all University activities.

We are delighted to be working with St Margaret’s Hospice Care who support patients, families and carers across the majority of Somerset, providing specialist in-patient hospice care, an adviceline and community service.
St Margaret’s are now seeking an experienced and innovative Supporter Development Manager to lead the ‘Supporter Experience’ function, bringing fresh ideas and insight-driven strategies to enhance donor engagement. You will manage supporter journeys across all income streams, focus on retention and stewardship, recognise and thank donors appropriately, and ensure accurate data management, Gift Aid compliance, and adherence to fundraising policies.
Reporting to the Head of Fundraising, you will help drive the hospice’s five-year income generation strategy, maximising income through innovative, supporter-focused engagement. With one direct report and oversight of a further three team members, you will embed gold-standard stewardship across the directorate, use CRM insights to guide decisions, and support the growth of mid-level giving while ensuring consistently high-quality supporter experiences.
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Experience delivering high-quality supporter care and stewardship strategies that retain donors, reduce attrition, and increase giving opportunities.
- Highly developed organisational and project management skills, with the ability to plan, prioritise, and manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
- Proven experience managing and delivering income-generating campaigns or appeals, including setting and managing budgets.
- Experience leading a high-performing team and supporting individuals to achieve their objectives.
- Demonstrable experience using CRM databases to analyse supporter data, with a strong understanding of accurate data capture, data governance, and using insight to enhance the supporter experience.
Open minded, you will be creative in approach, with effective leadership skills, and a strong empathetic and kind nature, particularly towards colleagues and bereaved supporters. Who we are:
We want to create a world filled with wildlife, and we do this through pioneering community engagement and Rewilding Our Future. For us, rewilding is about rewilding people as well as rewilding nature, reconnecting communities to the natural world and restoring functional ecosystems through habitat restoration and species reintroductions.
From our work to reintroduce beavers to London for the first time in 400 years, to restoring river catchments with water voles, we focus on interventions that create real ecological change on the ground. We support landscape-scale recovery too, from bringing back iconic species such as white storks and working on wider habitat restoration across East Anglia.
The need
To grow Citizen Zoo sustainably, we need to grow our secure unrestricted income. Our monthly, direct debit membership currently brings in around £10k per year, and we’re aiming to grow this towards £60K per year within the first 12 months (or 1,000 equivalent members), through improved digital acquisition, better retention, and a strong on-the-ground recruitment presence across London.

You are an adaptable, entrepreneurial fundraiser/marketer who loves turning public interest into long-term support. You are equally comfortable improving a digital join journey and writing supporter comms, and getting out in the field, setting up a stand at events, speaking to the public and signing people up to monthly direct debits. You thrive working independently, you’re confident working to targets, and you use data to learn fast and improve performance. You’re motivated by building something that compounds: a membership base that grows every month and funds rewilding for years to come.
The Team & The Role
We’re a not-for-profit social enterprise with a team who mostly work from home in London. You’ll work as part of this remote team from home, our shared desk spaces in central London, and out on the ground at events, partner venues and project sites across the city and beyond. You’ll work closely with delivery and communications colleagues to turn audiences (visitors, volunteers, event attendees, online supporters) into loyal members, and ensure members receive a positive, joined-up experience that retains them long term.
What you’ll do
You will own and deliver a data-led membership growth plan that increases acquisition, improves retention, and grows member value (including upgrades from £3 → £5/month over time). You’ll sharpen Citizen Zoo’s membership proposition so it clearly connects supporters to our impact, and you’ll turn that into campaigns and activity that consistently convert interest into monthly direct debits.
Digitally, you’ll create and optimise the online join journey (landing pages, forms and messaging) and run recruitment activity across email and social. You’ll work with agency partners to plan and launch Meta and/or Google campaigns, shape and iterate creative, manage a monthly marketing budget, and improve cost-per-join and conversion rates through ongoing performance monitoring.
For retention, you’ll build joined-up supporter journeys from welcome/onboarding through impact updates, renewal/retention thorough engagement and exclusive membership offerings, upgrade prompts and lapsed reactivation. You’ll use segmentation and insight to keep communications relevant, strengthen the member experience, and reduce churn.
On the ground, you’ll lead in-person recruitment across Greater London at events, fairs, community days and partner sites, setting up an effective stand, engaging the public, and signing people up to direct debit. You’ll keep improving the recruitment “kit” (scripts, FAQs, signage, QR codes and follow-up journeys) and coordinate volunteer/colleague support when needed.
Ideal candidates will also focus on lifetime value (LTV) of supporting members and as such be able to work towards an appropriate cost-per-acquisition target (CPA).
Minimum requirements
- Full UK driving licence (hard requirement), candidates will not be considered without one (please ensure you list this on your CV).
- Demonstrable experience growing income or supporters through membership, regular giving, direct marketing, subscriptions, fundraising, or performance marketing.
- Experience delivering campaigns across digital channels (email/social), and using data/insight to improve results.
- Confidence in communicating with the public, including proactively starting conversations and handling objections.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple workstreams independently.
- Willingness to travel across Greater London and work occasional evenings/weekends (time off in lieu provided).
Preferred requirements
- Experience managing a membership scheme (acquisition + retention) with clear performance targets.
- Experience using a CRM or ticketing/membership platform (e.g., Hubspot, Salesforce, Spektrix, Tessitura or similar).
- Experience running or supporting face-to-face fundraising/membership recruitment at events.
- Experience managing external suppliers (design/print/digital) and working with paid social agencies.

Success measures (first year)
In your first 12 months, success will look like building a repeatable membership growth engine that consistently brings in new direct debits through a combination of digital campaigns and in-person recruitment, while improving retention so income compounds over time.
You will be expected to help grow membership income from around £10k/year towards £60K/year, supported by clear monthly targets, a functioning reporting dashboard, and evidence-based optimisation of messaging, channels, and supporter journeys. You’ll also put in place a retention programme that reduces churn and increases lifetime value, so membership becomes a reliable, scalable source of unrestricted funding for Citizen Zoo’s rewilding work.
Working Hours
At Citizen Zoo we have standard working hours from 09:00–17:30, but team members can start earlier or later if agreed with your line manager. This role will require occasional evening and weekend work, particularly around events and recruitment opportunities, and this is given back as time off in lieu.
Location
Must be able to travel regularly across all of London, and across other parts of Greater London, to deliver events and recruitment activity.

Key Responsibilities
The Development Director will:
- lead our efforts to raise money into our own parent charity, from primarily new sources;
- support the CEO and investment team to raise investment capital (which may take the form of repayable grants) into our investment funds;
- lead our efforts to support organisations in the sector to raise philanthropic giving as a source of income for themselves, particularly focused around place (including the development of our existing Arts Council funded place-based philanthropy networks) and social impact (including our Big Give Arts for Impact match funding campaign);
