Job description
About The Role

This is an18 month fixed term opportunity to take ownership of the volunteer experience behind one of the UK’s most recognised fundraising campaigns. As Volunteer Experience Manager, you’ll shape how thousands of volunteers feel, engage and stay connected throughout their journey with the Poppy Appeal. From impactful national communications and volunteer storytelling to improving onboarding and retention, this is a role for someone who knows how to create experiences that people genuinely want to be part of. You’ll understand how the right message, delivered at the right time, can turn a volunteer into a long-term advocate, and you’ll constantly be looking for smarter, more engaging ways to connect with people at scale.

Come and be part of the leading Armed Forces charity, making a difference to the lives of those who have served to keep us safe and protect our way of life.

We’re looking for someone who combines creativity with commercial awareness and can confidently influence change across a large, fast-paced operation. You’ll work closely with marketing, digital and fundraising teams, as well as Poppy Appeal Managers across the UK, using insight and feedback to continuously improve the volunteer journey. Whether it’s refining recruitment campaigns, simplifying processes, improving communications or introducing new ideas to boost engagement, you’ll have the freedom to challenge the status quo and make a visible impact. Strong copywriting skills, confidence using CRM and digital marketing tools, and the ability to turn data into action will all be key to success in this role.

This role would suit someone who thrives on building relationships, spotting opportunities and creating campaigns and experiences that genuinely resonate with people. You’ll bring experience in supporter engagement, volunteer or donor retention, and national-scale recruitment activity, alongside the confidence to influence stakeholders at all levels. Most importantly, you’ll be someone who understands what motivates people to give their time, and how to keep them inspired, informed and connected long after they first sign up.

You will be contracted to your home address, and you will perform most of your work remotely there using our collaboration tools to work with colleagues, with occasional travel (incl. for monthly team meetings).

Employee benefits include -

- 28 day’s paid holiday (plus bank holidays) increasing with service, with optional annual leave purchase scheme of up to 5 working days
- Enhanced paid maternity, paternity and adoption leave
- Generous pension contributions, with Employer contributions ranging from 6% to 10%
- Range of flexible working options may be available, depending on your role
- Employee Assistance Programme providing confidential counselling, financial and legal advice
- Range of courses delivered by learning specialists to support your development goals and objectives
- Opportunities to volunteer
- Travel loans, Cycle to Work, and more!

For more detailed information about the role, please see the Vacancy Information Pack attached to our direct advert. Our teams take a personalised approach to shortlisting, which is carried out without the use of AI and is based on the evidence provided in your application against the essential and desirable criteria in the Person Specification.

RBL is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive organisation, reflecting the diversity of the armed forces community and of wider society. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and personal characteristics.

As part of our commitment to inclusion, we offer guaranteed interview schemes for candidates who declare an Armed Forces connection and/or a disability. However, candidates are only eligible for this scheme if their application clearly demonstrates that they meet all of the essential criteria listed in the Person Specification for the role.
