The Marketing Officer/Senior Marketing Officer (Acquisition) at CBM UK is an important role in making our life-changing work possible. Advertised at Officer or Senior Officer level (subject to experience), the role delivers direct and digital marketing communications to grow awareness, and recruit and engage with new long-term CBM supporters, through creative and impactful fundraising communications.
Key responsibilities:
The position holder is responsible for developing and delivering fundraising campaigns that will engage with CBM target individual audiences; supporting the development of the annual public fundraising plan; building supporter journeys and testing new channels and messages.
Working closely with the Head of Marketing and across the Fundraising & Communications team to plan, coordinate and deliver donor acquisition appeals to recruit new individual supporters, using a variety of direct and digital marketing channels.
Regular giving (mostly monthly Direct Debits) are a large part of CBMs donor acquisition activity, and as such, part of this acquisition role is the planning and co-ordination of regular giving conversion, recruitment, retention, and upgrade campaigns.
Donor Acquisition (30%)
- Working alongside the Head of Marketing and external agencies to plan and deliver a supporter recruitment programme, using channels that may include, but not limited to, inserts, press adverts, and door drops. email, paid social media adverts, Pay Per Click Googe adverts, and lead generation activities.
- Optimise the performance (traffic and income) of website fundraising pages, including appeal landing pages and donation platforms. Ensuring pages on the CBM website are engaging to existing and new audiences and utilising Search Engine Optimisation tools.
- Plan and coordinate an off-line and online welcome journey for new supporters to CBM, that will encourage ongoing engagement and long-term support.
- Develop excellent working relationships with existing and new agencies and suppliers, including marketing agencies, writers, designers, print suppliers and mailing houses. Source new agencies and suppliers as appropriate.
Regular Giving (20%)
- As part of the regular giving retention plan, deliver inspiring direct and digital marketing communications and updates to monthly supporters about CBMs work and the people their gifts are supporting. This can involve creating briefs, working alongside freelance copywriters and designers, and managing print and fulfilment suppliers.
- Working alongside our inhouse Supporter Relations team and external telephone fundraising agencies to co-ordinate regular giving conversion, upgrade and retention campaigns over the telephone.
- Deliver, test and refine a welcome and ongoing donor journey for regular giving supporters, across digital, post and phone channels, to update and thank supporters.
Legacy and In-Memoriam Giving (20%)
- Work alongside the Head of Marketing and Senior Supporter Relations Officer to develop marketing plans for legacy and in-memoriam giving.
- Responsible for legacy and in-memoriam giving direct mail and email appeals, and work alongside the Communications Team to ensure the legacy and in-memoriam giving website pages inspire new and existing supporters to support CBM in these ways.
New product testing (20%)
a. Test and develop new fundraising ideas, channels and messages to engage with and raise funds from new and existing audiences.
b. Maintain an awareness and anticipation of charity sector trends relating to direct marketing and keep abreast of competitor activities to enable CBM to respond and adapt quickly where appropriate.
Planning and reporting (10%)
- Analysis and reporting of appeals and projects, providing learnings that will enable informed decision making around future activity.
- Develop a good knowledge of the CRM system (Salesforce) and ensure appropriate recording and reporting of direct marketing activity.
Other
- Ensure the consistent implementation of CBMs brand, key messages and style guide in fundraising activities.
- Awareness of, and compliance across direct marketing, of Fundraising Regulator and Data Protection legal requirements (GDPR and PECR).
- Work with other teams, including the CBM Global Federation, to maximise collaboration opportunities and integrated working.
- Help develop a culture of enthusiasm, continual improvement and success which reflects the ambitions of CBM UK.
- Occasional out of normal office working hours. Occasional travel in the UK and possibility of travel internationally.

- Prepare internal marketing materials for CBM UK colleagues and provide briefings for supporter facing teams ahead of each campaign.
- Develop excellent working relationships with existing and new agencies and suppliers, including marketing agencies, writers, designers, print suppliers and mailing houses. Source new agencies and suppliers as appropriate.
High donor fundraising (20%)
- Lead on CBM’s high donor fundraising programme, through planning and managing regular communications and fundraising asks to this segment of supporters, working towards achieving annual income growth targets.
- Work alongside the Supporter Relations team to develop and carry out a donor journey for high donors, including personalised communications through phone, email and post.

We raise around £1.5m a year against operating costs of around £2.5m.
Fundraising needs to grow — but more importantly, it needs to work better.

The role (what you’ll actually do)
As Head of Fundraising & Communications, you will:
- Sit on the Senior Management Team and report to the CEO
- Lead all fundraising and marketing comms activity
- Take responsibility for income and cost-effectiveness
- Shape strategy, set priorities and make evidence-based decisions
- Personally steward a small number of key major donors and partners
You’ll lead a talented team covering:
· Individual Giving
· Major Donors & Philanthropy
· Corporate Partnerships
· Trusts & Grants
· Digital Content
- Data, CRM & Compliance
You’ll also work closely with our Heads of Equine Welfare and Discovery to fundraise for our work with vulnerable horses & children.

Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic leadership and planning
- Develop and deliver a clear community and events fundraising strategy aligned with Bipolar UK’s wider fundraising and organisational goals.
- Translate strategy into achievable annual plans, income targets and team objectives.
- Use insight, data and evaluation to inform decision-making and continuous improvement.
- Work with the Director of Fundraising to forecast income, manage risk and maximise return on investment.
2. Community and events fundraising delivery
- Lead the planning, delivery and growth of a portfolio of community fundraising initiatives and challenge events, both in person and online.
- Ensure a consistently high-quality supporter experience across all community and events activity.
- Oversee web content and digital resources to support community and event fundraising
- Identify and develop new fundraising opportunities that align with Bipolar UK’s mission, values and supporter base.
- Act as an ambassador for Bipolar UK at key events when required.
3. Volunteer fundraising offer
- Develop a clear, accessible and motivating events and community fundraising volunteer offer.
- Design and implement an effective volunteer induction process, ensuring fundraisers feel confident, supported and well-equipped.
- Work with colleagues to ensure volunteer fundraising activity is aligned with safeguarding, wellbeing and organisational policies.
4. Digital campaigns and income growth
- Lead on the planning and delivery of digital-led community and events fundraising campaigns.
- Work collaboratively with Marketing and Communications colleagues to develop supporter journeys, content and communications that drive engagement and income.
- Develop approaches to grow connected income streams, including regular giving and in-memory giving, through community and digital activity.
- Monitor performance, assess impact and report clearly on outcomes and learning.
5. Supporter experience and stewardship
- Ensure supporters are stewarded with care, empathy and professionalism, recognising the personal connection many have to bipolar.
- Oversee thanking, updating and re-engagement activity to build long-term supporter relationships.
- Ensure accurate and compliant use of the CRM and fundraising data.
6. Team leadership and organisational contribution
- Line-manage and support the Fundraising Officer and Supporter Engagement Assistant, providing clear direction, coaching and development.
- Create a positive, supportive and high-performing team culture focused on impact and learning.
- Oversee income and expenditure for the community and events portfolio, monitoring budgets and performance against targets.
- Contribute to organisational planning, cross-team working and the development of efficient systems and processes.
- Evaluate performance and produce insight-led reports to support decision-making and improvement.

Essential Criteria
- Significant experience managing community and/or events fundraising, with a track record of achieving income and engagement targets.
- Experience of line-managing staff and leading a small team to deliver effectively.
- Strong planning and organisational skills, with experience translating strategy into delivery plans.
- Experience of managing budgets and reporting on performance and impact.
- Demonstrable experience of digital fundraising and use of online fundraising platforms.
- Experience working with volunteers or community fundraisers.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire others.
- Confidence using CRM systems and fundraising data.
- Knowledge of the UK charity sector, GDPR and fundraising best practice.
- A compassionate, values-led approach and confidence working in a mental health context.

The Role
We are looking for a dynamic and motivated individual to join our team, with a strong record of developing and stewarding successful and trusted relationships with corporate and community partners, securing income, volunteering support, increased awareness and pro bono support. Ideally from a fundraising background, we are also happy to receive applications from individuals currently working in Sales & Marketing and Account Management.
Working closely with our Corporate Partnerships Manager, this role will have responsibility for growing fundraised income, with an emphasis on developing corporate partnerships and encouraging partners to get involved with events. The role holder will play a key part in helping secure the ambitious targets for FareShare Midlands new Birmingham hub in particular as well as supporting the wider fundraising team in achieving fundraising targets.
Key duties and responsibilities:
- Identify, secure and develop new corporate partnership opportunities, focusing on, employee fundraising, Charity of the Year partnerships, sponsorship opportunities and donations.
- Work collaboratively with the Head of Fundraising, Corporate Fundraising Manager and volunteering team to seek out and develop new business opportunities through networking and prospecting to generate income from our Team Volunteering Days at our Birmingham Hub (soon to be rolled out to our other depots), to include the Community Kitchen and Conference and Collaboration room hire.
- Maximise account management and stewardship activities with our existing portfolio of corporate contacts including face to face meetings and presentations, reviews and updates to drive incremental revenue as appropriate.
- Play a proactive role in researching and prospecting potential corporate and group supporters to then plan and execute engaging approaches in support of delivering income from our challenge events.
- Contribute ideas for innovative fundraising and engagement opportunities to help diversify income and grow supporter reach.
- Attend business meetings and events, building excellent connections with key business contacts, stakeholders and other groups at a local and regional level.
- Work collaboratively with internal colleagues across the organisation to identify opportunities for corporate support. This may include Community Food Members, suppliers and other key stakeholders.
- Updating our Customer Relationship Management system, Donorfy, with key contacts and information.
- Represent FSM externally at events, forums and exhibitions.
- Some hours outside of normal office hours are expected (including evenings and weekends). Time off in lieu will be given.
Person Specification - Skills, Qualities & Experience
Essential
- Established experience in a fundraising or sales and account management role.
- Experience of working in income generation with proven success
- Experience of working to deadlines and achieving outcomes against agreed financial targets.
- Demonstrate excellent
written and verbal communicationskills, with experience in developing high quality, professional presentations or proposals to a diverse range of audiences. - Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage time, prioritise and plan effectively.
- Excellent IT skills, including Word, Outlook, Excel and Teams.
- A strong team player who able to engage and collaborate with other internal teams across the charity and contribute effectively to the organisational goals of FareShare Midlands.
- This is a hands-on role, with face-to-face meetings and events. The successful candidate will need to be a car driver with ongoing access to a vehicle and a willingness to travel across the Midlands and at our sites in Birmingham, Leicester and Nottingham.

The hospice’s work is centred on the individual's needs and they provide specialist support wherever it is needed; whether that is in the home, another setting in the community, in hospital or in the hospice itself. Support is provided to patients and their families via the Inpatient Unit, the Community Care Unit including outpatient’s clinics, home visits from the community nursing, medical or therapy team, the OneCall 24/7 telephone helpline and bereavement support.
In 2023, St Elizabeth Hospice merged with East Coast Hospice to form a collaborative approach to developing achievable and sustainable specialist palliative care services for people living the Great Yarmouth and Waveney area.
We have to generate over 70% of our funding ourselves and our Income generation team are key in helping us achieve this.
