About the Role:

This is an ideal role for someone who enjoys being at the heart of an organisation and likes supporting a busy, friendly team, working across teams – grants development, fundraising and marketing alongside the finance and operations team. We are looking for someone with good experience of working in a growing organisation who is able to build good working relationships with colleagues and manage multiple priorities.

Knowledge of basic financial principles and previous experience of working within finance and administrative roles is essential. This role will be a key part of the finance and operations team and contribute to the team’s objectives.

What will you be doing?

1.  Grants and Finance Support:

· To support the Finance and Grants teams by liaising with suppliers of items for grants, checking invoices and records, issuing purchase orders and placing orders

·  Providing first level support with the grants database system.

· Support with invoice entry and payment reconciliation on the grants system.

· Manage the organisation’s petty cash and reconciliation

· Support with processing invoices for payment

· Scanning, filing and logging account documents

·  Checking and updating ledger balances using the computerised accounting systems

2. HR Support:

· Support the HR Manager with recruitment and onboarding processes, and other key HR activities, including:

·  Assist the teams with recruitment administrative tasks including posting job adverts on relevant job boards; arranging interviews; responding to job applicants; issuing reference requests; filing of recruitment records.

· Provide support with induction process and induction schedules for new joiners.

·  Perform data entry and update records and databases for personnel in the HR Information system.

· Update organisation charts and other key documents and handle confidential information professionally.

3. Reception and Enquiries:

· Welcome visitors at Buttle UK and be the first point of contact for phone calls and visitors, signposting callers and enquiries when Buttle UK cannot assist

·  Take responsibility for the out-of-hours voicemail facility and respond to all messages on a timely basis.

· Manage company correspondence including phone calls, emails, letters and packages in accordance with Buttle UK procedures, and distribute to relevant staff.

4. General Administration for the Buttle Office

· Organise set up of meeting rooms ahead of key meetings

· Make travel arrangements and hotel bookings for staff where necessary

· Ad-hoc admin tasks as directed by the Senior Management Team

· Track office stationery levels, including printer requirements and equipment for home-based staff, re-ordering, when required, and maintain relationships with stationery suppliers.

·  Oversee day-to-day office functions to ensure the office runs smoothly and efficiently.

· Maintain and organise office files, both physical and digital.

·  Support the organisation during office events including staff meetings, team building activities and corporate functions.

Purpose of the role

The purpose of this role is to support our Head of Finance and Operations with our HR, operations and admin functions including managing systems to efficiently run the business and achieve strategic objectives agreed by Black Thrive Board of Directors. Duties and responsibilities

1. The HR Manager assumes the primary responsibility for ensuring the organisations employment policies are fit for purpose and in line with any changes in employment legislation and for communicating the changes to the Directors and SLT where required.

2. Support the Head of Finance & Operations to manage HR and admin functions, including working with managers to prepare job descriptions, employment contracts, onboarding and offboarding.

3. Lead the recruitment process for new staff to source appropriate candidates for the organisation. This includes job advertising, shortlisting, interviewing, pre-employment checks and other pre-employment activities that are necessary.

4. Ensure the renewal of DBS checks for all staff is carried out on a periodic basis.

5. Process new joiners and leavers on the HR platforms and liaising with IT Support to ensure staff are set up or removed as needed.

6. Plan and coordinate induction for new employees.

7. Manage the employee performance reviews, and performance improvement plans in line with the organisations policies and any legislative requirements.

8. Work with the Head of Finance and Operations to implement and review the organisations reward principles and salary benchmarking exercise.

9. Support the Head of Finance and Operations to embed Black Thrive’s mission and values across the organisation, leading and driving the required culture change.

10. Review the existing policies and update or create new HR related policies in line with the current employment laws or governance requirements.

11. Develop, implement and review the employee development and training plan / strategy with the Head of Finance and Operations.

The Philanthropy Manager will own an assigned portfolio of prospects and donors at five to six figure level and act as the day-to-day relationship manager within that portfolio.

Communications 

• Develop, contribute to and implement impact-driven and strategic communications campaigns that build Kineara’s fundraising capacity and raise awareness of the issues

About the role

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Fire Safety Engineer to act as the Institute’s Technical Authority and Systems Owner for all active fire and life safety systems, including fire alarms, suppression systems, and associated protection technologies. This is a critical operational role at the heart of keeping the Crick safe.

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Fire Safety Engineer to act as the Institute’s Technical Authority and Systems Owner for all active fire and life safety systems, including fire alarms, suppression systems, and associated protection technologies. This is a critical operational role at the heart of keeping the Crick safe.

You will bring deep operational and technical expertise. Your background will enable you to interpret risk, understand how systems integrate within a complex building, and ensure our fire protection infrastructure is designed, maintained, and operated to the highest standards.

As the Institute’s subject matter expert, you will provide authoritative guidance to senior leadership, engineering projects, and operational teams. You will lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of our fire safety management system, ensuring we not only meet but exceed our obligations under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the Building Safety Act 2022, and all relevant British and European standards.

What you will be doing

As a Fire Safety Engineer at the Crick, you will:

• Act as the Systems Owner and Technical Authority for the entire portfolio of active fire protection systems
• Undertake and lead the development, implementation, and ongoing review of the Institute's Fire Safety Policy, Strategy, and Management System.
• Lead the investigation of all fire incidents, alarms, and near-misses to identify root causes and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.
• Act as the primary point of contact for the Fire and Rescue Service, building control, and other enforcing authorities.
• Collaborate with and support Engineering Project Managers, ensuring project works are delivered without compromising the live environment and meet all fire safety regulations.
• Prepare and present a comprehensive Fire Safety Dashboard and operational reports to the quarterly General Health and Safety Committee and Fire Safety Group, providing data-driven insights, trend analysis, and actionable recommendations.

About you

You will have:

• NEBOSH National Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management or an equivalent qualification (e.g., IFE Level 4 Diploma, Certified Fire Protection Specialist - CFPS).
• Graduate or Member grade of the Institute of Fire Safety Managers (GradIFSM / MIFSM) or equivalent professional membership (e.g., IOSH, RICS).
• Significant experience as a Fire Safety Specialist/Engineer in a complex, high-risk environment (e.g., healthcare, research, industrial, major commercial).*
• Demonstrable, hands-on experience as a Systems Owner for a range of complex fire protection systems (sprinklers, gaseous suppression, fire alarms), including administering isolations and impairments.*
• Expert knowledge of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the Building Safety Act 2022, and in-depth technical knowledge of British/European Standards for fire safety systems.*
• Proven ability to analyse complex situations, identify underlying risks, and develop pragmatic, effective solutions.*
• Excellent communication, influencing, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to act as a trusted advisor to all levels of the organisation and external authorities.
