We’re the UK fire family’s charity, providing timely clinical care and wellbeing support to members of the UK’s fire services and their families, helping them to adapt to physical, emotional and social challenges, to adapt to conditions, injuries and illness, and to transition to life after service.
We are looking for a relationship-driven fundraising professional to take on this varied role, to support engagement across Fire and Rescue Services in Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk.
You will have flexibility to plan and manage your workload in line with the strategy you develop for your region. You will build strong partnerships across fire stations, control rooms, training programmes and corporate networks. Your focus will be to grow sustainable income by increased engagement with Fire and Rescue Service personnel, volunteers, and the wider community.
You will work collaboratively with internal teams, volunteers, and key stakeholders to identify and maximise fundraising opportunities, support local committees, and deliver impactful campaigns. The role also involves supporting volunteers, analysing performance against targets, and ensuring all fundraising activity meets best practice and compliance standards.
This is a varied and rewarding role where you will manage relationships, deliver engagement plans, and contribute to raising awareness of the charity’s services—helping to make a real difference to the Fire and Rescue community.
This role is part time at 22.5 hours per week (average), there will be the occasional evenings and weekends required, and we can discuss flexible options.
Actual salary is £23,402.04 per year, with an additional £3,400 per year car allowance paid monthly (terms and conditions apply).
About You
We are looking for a motivated and organised individual with experience in fundraising or income generation, and a passion for building meaningful relationships.
You’ll bring:
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence a wide range of stakeholders
- Proven experience of growing income across fundraising streams
- The ability to develop, manage and deliver plans, budgets and KPIs

A willingness to regularly travel across the region and occasionally stay overnight is essential.

The purpose of this role
This is a new role, being the operational engine to strengthen the organisation at a time of change. Shifts in the wider Unitarian movement with patterns of innovation, rebuilding, and growth alongside congregational vulnerabilities and closures mean that the GA’s operational function must adapt.
This role would suit someone who is excited to manage governance, systems, and data as strategic enablers in a values-driven organisation, who can drive change while delivering operational excellence.
This is a role with real scope to shape how an organisation that is approaching its centenary works in the years ahead - including how good data, digital systems, and emerging tools can support a small team to make best use of its resources and build capacity for relational work.
The Operations Director will work closely with the Chief Officer, and will be a collaborative and proactive enabler to lead a transition to a future-fit organisation that can better serve its members and have a greater impact.

Strategy & organisational development — Partner closely with the Chief Officer to shape strategy, translate priorities into action, and build the systems that make us resilient.

Governance, legal & compliance — Serve as Company Secretary, stewarding our transition to CIO and ensuring we meet our legal and regulatory obligations with confidence.

Financial oversight — Ensure financial management arrangements (including outsourced providers) deliver accurate, timely information and sound controls; work with the Honorary Treasurer and external accountants on budgeting, fund oversight and audit support, escalating risks and holding providers to account.

Systems, data & digital — Lead our information infrastructure, oversee our CRM migration, and champion a culture of good data practice — including thoughtful use of AI where beneficial.

People & HR — Line manage two team members and keep our HR and supplier relationships running smoothly, with care and clarity.

Unitarian relationships — Nurture collaborative relationships with key Unitarian bodies from an operational perspective, including governance support for affiliated organisations.

Events & communications — Take operational ownership of the Annual Meeting and ensure the infrastructure behind our communications is solid and reliable.

What core skills and experience you’ll have
Essential:

Senior operations leadership experience in a purpose-led or membership organisation, with a track record of building capacity through periods of organisational change.

About the Role
As we scale, we are looking for a Head of Operations to provide operational leadership to ensure the charity operates effectively, compliantly and sustainably in line with its mission and ethos. Job purpose: Provide a range of administration services to enable the Trust to operate its day-to-day activities, management and governance processes effectively.
Roles and responsibilities:
The main responsibilities of the job are:
· Provide administrative support to the Programme Manager, Trustees and Youth Board
· Provide general administrative support across the Trust, including scheduling meetings, administering our Microsoft 365 system, helping to produce reports/ letters, managing emails, facilitating in-house communication, managing our records, research, and other general duties
· Assist implementation of the Trust’s charitable programmes e.g., by providing administration support to project teams and organising promotional activities.
· Manage enquiries to the Trust and respond to routine enquiries, ensuring that actions are followed up
· Proactively manage our website day-to-day and post to our social media, consulting where necessary. Produce leaflets, publicity and newsletters

As our proactive and driven Strategic Partnership Development Manager you will lead partnership development for a range of priority corporate sectors - working closely with global partnerships, programmes and policy colleagues - to secure new multi-year partnerships and drive sustainable change.
In this role, you will:
- Lead on partnership development for strategically important sectors including food and beverage and agriculture, as well as other sectors to be determined. Effectively utilising your commercial awareness and corporate partnerships expertise to present WaterAid’s partnerships offering and value-add externally to these industries.
- Develop and manage a pipeline of potential high value, annual and multi-year new business opportunities, ensuring there is sufficient lead generation, active movement and conversion to secure annual and multi-year 6-figure+ partnerships.
- Collaborate with colleagues across the WaterAid federation including partnerships, communications, programmes and advocacy to identify and develop high-quality propositions that meet both partner and WaterAid needs.
- Lead WaterAid’s presence at global events and conferences, building a network of contacts amongst companies and actively cultivating this network.

Requirements
To be successful, you will need:
- Proven experience in generating six-figure strategic, new business partnerships from cold in the charity sector or in a commercial setting and proven ability to meet and exceed personal targets.
- An externally focused and proactive attitude, with the energy and passion to engage people and excite them about WaterAid, alongside the ability to forge effective working relationships with stakeholders at all levels, including internal and external C-suite.
- Excellent presentation, verbal and written communication skills with an aptitude for writing high-quality and engaging proposals for a corporate audience.
- Strong working understanding of charity-corporate partnerships, corporate sustainability, Environmental Social and Governance (ESG) and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
Although not essential, we’d prefer you to have:
- Understanding and experience of international development
- Understanding of and active interest in the agriculture and food & beverage sectors, including key materially important sustainability topics.

As Team Manager, you will play a key role in helping the service remain steady, responsive and ambitious for people who may have been let down by systems before.
Working closely with the Service Manager, you will support the day to day leadership of the service, guiding frontline staff, volunteers and peer mentors to deliver support that is trauma-informed, strengths-based and focused on recovery, safety and move on.
