The Vacancy

This exciting role combines supporting the management of Methodist historic places of worship and other spaces across Britain with interpretation and audience development. The Methodist Heritage Officer will advocate for Methodist Heritage, contribute to delivering the Methodist Heritage Strategy 2026-2032 and work towards our historic spaces being sustainable, welcoming and engaging. For example, you will aim to develop and promote a compelling and integrated missional visitor offer with our museums, and resource the pilgrimage opportunities offered by our historic chapels.

About You

We are seeking an experienced Christian heritage professional, who is passionate about the development of Methodist Heritage and its use as a tool to deliver contemporary Christian mission. You will work with our four nationally accredited museums, but also with our many other heritage sites and historic chapels. Working with the expert volunteers in the Methodist Heritage Committee and teams at our heritage sites, as well as Connexional (national) staff team colleagues in archives, property and communications, for example, you will be someone who can ensure coordinated best practice for the Church in heritage management in relation to historic properties, advise on collection care and develop engaging interpretation and outreach.

This role has an occupational requirement to be a practicing Christian in accordance with the Equality Act 2010.

We are also open to considering remote/homeworking arrangements (salary may vary accordingly).

Take the next step in your fundraising career

Lauderdale House is looking for an experienced fundraiser who is ready for a role with more responsibility and the opportunity to help shape how fundraising develops across the organisation.

This is our first dedicated fundraising role, but you won't be starting from scratch. We have successful previous trust fundraising, established education and community programmes, previous individual donors and a large community of people with a long-standing connection to Lauderdale House.

Working closely with the Director, you'll help develop fundraising into a consistent and sustainable income stream, with a particular focus on Trusts & Foundations andIndividual & Legacy Giving.

You'll develop and manage a pipeline of trust and foundation applications, write compelling applications and reports, build relationships with funders and develop approaches to encourage longer-term support.

You'll also help establish our individual and legacy giving programme, researching and cultivating prospective donors, making fundraising approaches, developing donor stewardship and putting appropriate systems in place for donor data and Gift Aid.

Alongside this, you'll contribute to fundraising strategy, impact and evaluation, cases for support, fundraising communications, reporting and compliance.

About you

We're looking for someone with solid practical fundraising experience and a track record of securing income who is ready to take the next step in their career and possesses all or most of the following:

• a successful track record in fundraising relevant to this role, preferably in arts, heritage and/or community organisations;
• experience managing your own fundraising workload or portfolio with a good degree of independence;
• the confidence to use your judgement, make recommendations and move work forward without extensive day-to-day supervision;
• experience taking responsibility for fundraising targets or income goals;
• a strong understanding of fundraising trends, especially within the arts, heritage and community sectors;
• an understanding of the role of fundraising in organisational growth;
• knowledge of fundraising regulations, data protection, ethical standards and best practice;
• experience using CRM systems, databases or other tools for data mining and supporting prospecting;

You don't need to have previously been a Head of Fundraising or run an entire fundraising function. You might currently be a Fundraising Officer, Senior Fundraising Officer, Development Officer or similar and be ready for a role with more responsibility and scope to use your own judgement.

Above all, we're looking for someone who combines fundraising knowledge and real experience with initiative. You won't be expected to arrive knowing everything about Lauderdale House, but you should have enough fundraising experience to recognise opportunities, recommend a course of action and confidently take responsibility for delivering it.

Lauderdale House is a Grade II* historic house in Waterlow Park, Highgate, brought to life as a busy arts, heritage, education and community centre. Around 80,000 people visit us each year, and in 2028 we will celebrate 50 years as an arts and education centre.

This is an important appointment at an exciting point in the Academy’s development. We will celebrate our 125th anniversary in 2027, following a period in which we have grown our policy work, transformed our building to create more opportunities for public engagement and developed a national network for early career researchers.

As Director of Finance & Resources, you will make sure we have the resources, systems and organisational capacity to deliver our ambitions. You will lead our finance function and have overall responsibility for HR, IT & AV, Estates & Facilities, and Venue Sales & Marketing, working with experienced Heads of Department across each area.

Finance will be central to the role. You will lead our financial strategy and planning, oversee our financial controls and reporting, and provide clear advice to the Chief Executive, Senior Management Team, Council and its committees. You will also help us think longer term about our financial sustainability, including our plans to diversify income through philanthropy and commercial activity.

But we are looking for more than a strong Finance Director. You will be part of a close-knit Senior Management Team which works collectively to lead the Academy. About you

You will be a CCAB-qualified accountant with substantial and senior finance experience, gained in a complex organisation. You will have led finance teams and significant budgets and be comfortable advising senior leaders, Boards or Trustees.

You will also bring broader leadership experience. You may already have responsibility beyond finance, or have worked closely with areas such as people, operations, estates or technology.

We are looking for someone who can combine sound financial judgement with a practical, collaborative approach. You will be able to deal with complexity without making things unnecessarily complicated, communicate clearly with people who are not finance specialists, and provide constructive challenge when it is needed.

You should also be someone who enjoys leading through others. There are strong Heads of Department across the Resources portfolio, so this isn't about being the expert in every area. Brighton & Hove Speak Out is looking for an experienced, passionate and values-driven leader to manage and develop our flagship self-advocacy project, the Learning Disability Voices Network (LDVN).

This is an exciting opportunity to join a respected local advocacy charity at a time of growth and development. Thanks to new National Lottery funding, we are expanding opportunities for people with learning disabilities to build confidence, develop self-advocacy skills, influence decision-making and create positive change in their communities.

As Self-Advocacy Team Leader, you will lead the delivery of the LDVN project, support a dedicated team of staff and volunteers, and ensure people with learning disabilities remain at the heart of planning, delivery and decision-making.

About the role

You will be responsible for leading and coordinating all aspects of the Learning Disability Voices Network, including:

• Lead a team of 4 part-time project staff and volunteers across Brighton & Hove and West Sussex, supporting people with learning disabilities to identify issues that matter to them and take action to bring about change.

Citizens Advice Stevenage is an ambitious and innovative member of the Citizens Advice network. We have expanded our services and offering to meet the increased demand in the area, doubling in size over the last few years. 

As a positive subsequence, we are looking for a Head of Finance & Business Support, who will become a core member of the Senior Leadership Team, responsible for overseeing the financial stewardship of Citizens Advice Stevenage. To lead on financial governance, business support operations, and compliance, ensuring the organization operates sustainably and meets all legal and regulatory obligations. The role is pivotal in safeguarding the charity's financial integrity, supporting strategic decision-making, and enabling effective service delivery. 

Financial Leadership 

• Prepare, review, and present draft and final budgets for approval by the board, ensuring timely submission of financial information to the CEO and Trustee Board. 

• Oversee financial reporting processes, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and compliance with regulatory standards, including variance analysis and annual balance sheets, ensuring timely submission of financial information to the CEO and Trustee Board. 

• Manage the reserves policy, ensuring regular review and alignment with operational needs and financial risks. 

• Identify and manage financial risks, ensuring integration into the organization’s risk register and adherence to appropriate mitigations.

• Ensure that the day-to-day finance and back-office function is high performing and compliant, safeguarding effective and efficient financial management processes. 

• To co-ordinate the proactive and timely dissemination of high-quality financial information to services, the CEO, and Board such as annual budgets, monthly management accounts, cash flow analysis, financial forecasting and monthly business performance figures.

• To ensure that the organisation has in place, robust and compliant financial systems and procedures; and that these are complied with by all budget holders, ensuring that any oversights are fully investigated and reported upwards as necessary.

• To lead on the preparation of statutory accounts, provide year end accounts, provide appropriate support and assistance to the organisation’s auditors and delivery of recommendations arising from the Audit process.

• To ensure that all statutory returns are complete in a timely and effective manner, including those in relation to VAT, PAYE, NIC and SSP, and that appropriate compliance dates are met for the Charities Commission and Companies House.

• Oversee the transactions, activities and processes of the external payroll provider.

• To monitor and advise on current and future tax legislation, with a view to optimisation.

• To support service managers in the preparation of bids and contract negotiations and provide financial activity analysis and reports in line with specific project reporting requirements.

• To monitor, report and make recommendations regarding the Investment and Reserves Policy to the Board.

• To oversee the payroll function to ensure employees are paid in an accurate and timely manner.

• To monitor and control creditors and debtors, ensuring invoices are paid on time and the risk of bad debts is minimised.

Compliance and Risk Management 

• Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory frameworks, including the Charity Commission, Companies House, FCA, ICO, and other relevant bodies. 

• Maintain and regularly review financial systems, controls, and policies, ensuring they are effectively implemented and aligned with legal requirements. 

• Conduct due diligence for pension, redundancy, and other liabilities, ensuring plans are in place for management and mitigation. 

• Support the trustee board in understanding risks related to projects and contracts, providing assurance of compliance with funders’ requirements. 

• To lead on the Risk Management process, advising the CEO and managers on risk matters, and reviewing the risk register on a regular basis, reporting to the Board of Trustees.

• To check, amend and monitor the Financial Procedures Manual; reporting material breaches to the CEO and Board of Trustees, as required/in-line with governance.

• Working with the senior leadership team monitoring and updating Insurance matters as required, reporting to the CEO and Board of Trustees.

Business Support Operations 

• Lead on organisational business continuity planning, ensuring resilience during crises and alignment with the charity's objectives. 

• Oversee the development, implementation, and review of key policies, ensuring they reflect legal obligations and organisational values. 

• Manage IT systems and cybersecurity measures to protect organisational data and operations, ensuring compliance with standards such as Cyber Essentials. 

Strategic Contribution 

• Provides proactive strategic financial advice and guidance to the Trustees and wider leadership team, monitoring and reporting on the financial performance against agreed targets, identified risks and key performance indicators. 

• Provide financial and operational insights to inform strategic decision-making and long-term planning. 

• Foster a culture of continuous improvement and financial accountability across the organisation. 

• Funding strategy: Support the CEO and board to regularly review the sustainability of its income sources and their impact on achieving charitable purposes in the short, medium and longer term.

• Work with the CEO and Head of Impact and Development to prepare the funding strategy that should go beyond immediate budgetary considerations and look at the wider funding landscape. The organisation needs to understand potential emerging opportunities and the organisation's readiness to pursue them. 

Team and Stakeholder Engagement 

• Build and maintain effective relationships with trustees, funders, regulators, and key stakeholders, to ensure that Citizens Advice Stevenage meets its financial, regulatory and legal obligations. 

• Provide leadership and support to finance and business support teams, ensuring professional development and effective performance management. 

People management and development  

• Develop and implement a culture of continuous learning that will equip and develop people to deliver outstanding delivery. Responsibility for the training and development plan for the Finance and Business Support ensuring it is in effective operation including maintaining records of training needs identified and training attended.  
   

• Working with the rest of the leadership team ensure the organisation delivers a fair, inclusive, equitable and transparent employee and volunteer experience, taking account of our EDI aims and in line with employment law and the Equality Act 2010. 
   

• Ensure Open and timely communication that provides information about the organisation and context for decisions that are made, helps to build trust and confidence and earn legitimacy.

Person Specification 

• ACA/ACCA/CIMA Qualified, CPE up to date.

• Strong financial management experience at a similar level within the charity/not for profit sector 

• A proven track record of leading, developing and inspiring small teams 

• Experience of strategic business & financial planning, forecasting and budget management. 

• Sound experience of producing month-end management accounts and audited year-end financial accounts 

• Experience of managing and using financial systems 

• A working knowledge of relevant legislation (regulatory, legal and financial) in the context of a charitable organisation 

• Experience of managing change and change programmes 

• A track record of initiating, leading and managing associated risks 

• Strong influencing, negotiating and collaborative working skills, with the ability to present complex financial information clearly and concisely in writing or verbally 

• Confident IT skills; confident using Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel

• Experience designing and introducing new financial processes, procedures and reports

• Working knowledge of QuickBooks software [advantageous]

To organise the Finance Department and all its functions to ensure timely delivery of complete, accurate information to all users in order to minimise risk and maximise efficiency.

Location: This is a hybrid role based in our Folkestone Office, with the number of days spent in the office to be discussed and agreed with the successful candidate, taking into account the needs of the role.

Working Hours: Office open officially from 9am to 5.30pm (Mon-Fri) and 9am-4pm on Fridays.

Responsibilities

• To manage all banking and Treasury functions, ensuring all payments are properly authorised and funds are invested in the best manner.
• To manage the Finance Department, its staff and software systems.
• To ensure the appropriate delegation of tasks and responsibilities to the Finance & Administration Officer and overseeing their development and training.
• Maintaining a thorough understanding of, and ensuring the integrity of the financial reporting, Nominal Ledger and costing structures, internal controls and monthly processes 
• To manage all Payroll and Pension functions for UK and Overseas staff, ensuring full PAYE and NIC compliance, and processing MAFI pension contributions.
• To ensure all staff understand their payroll and pension matters, and help with understanding their tax situations, ensuring that overseas staff are on the correct tax (NT) code. Making staff aware when they need to take independent financial advice.

Job Activities:

 General

• Working with the Finance Director to understand the budgeting and reporting practices.
• Maintaining a thorough understanding of, and ensuring the integrity of the financial reporting, Nominal Ledger and costing structures, internal controls and monthly processes.

 Treasury Management

Primary responsibility for and management of:

• Ensuring that liquid funds are always available to fulfil planned expenditure.
• Ensuring that funds are held so as to attract the best rate of interest.
• To research the best options for investment and consult with the Finance Director.
• To ensure that all funds are invested in-line with charity policies.

Banking

Primary responsibility for and management of:

• All bank-payment related software. This includes NatWest Bankline, NW ClearSpend and Bacway IP.
• All domestic and foreign bank accounts.
• Ensuring account balances are maintained at agreed levels and movement of funds as required.
• Organisational banking requirements including daily monitoring of transactions and resolution of any arising queries and issues.

• Preparation, processing and payment of monthly Payroll and month end procedures to deadline.
• Adherence to HMRC rules and requirements ensuring MAF is protected from avoidable fines thereby minimising compliance costs.
• Advising Overseas Staff on matters of Tax and NI.
• Maintenance of the Payroll software and database.
• Driving process improvements across the Payroll function.

• Calculating, deducting, collating and validating personal pension contributions, and resolving any arising anomalies.

Arranging meetings with all Staff and IFA.

Tasks common to all staff:

1. Role modelling of organisational values and beliefs - to contribute to the shared spiritual life of the MAF UK team as a unique Christian charity. This will include attendance and participation in corporate times of biblical reflection and corporate prayer meetings.
2. To participate in appropriate matrix programme and project teams, contributing skills and expertise to required timescales from the appropriate programme leader.
3. To keep line manager informed of all relevant and timely information.
4. At all times comply with statutory requirements for handling personal and sensitive data in a confidential manner.
5. To abide by Safeguarding and Conduct Policies, and all other MAF UK policies provided on the Intranet.

Terms:

• As a senior appointment at least 36 hours per week but in addition those required to achieve the agreed responsibilities, with up to an hour for lunch daily, unpaid. Hours should be agreed with line manager.
• Flexibility will be required for working additional hours and travel to meet business needs or for travel or meetings on weekends or evenings.
• Annual leave entitlement of 22 days per year (pro rata) plus the 8 paid public holidays per year.
• Non contributory pension scheme (10%) of salary.
• Permanent, or 1 year fixed term contract.
