This role will shape the future of public fundraising and engagement at Mencap. At a pivotal point in their strategy, you will lead an established and ambitious portfolio across Individual Giving, Community and Events, and Legacies, helping grow sustainable income, extend their reach and build deeper relationships with the people who support Mencap's work.

Many people who support Mencap have a personal connection to someone with a learning disability. You will build on these valued relationships while developing a compelling case for support that reaches further, inspires new people to engage with the cause and grows Mencap's supporter base. Working with colleagues across the organisation, you will turn awareness and commitment into meaningful action, strengthening their fundraising culture and helping make a greater difference for people with a learning disability and their families.

Recent investment in fundraising infrastructure, including the implementation of Salesforce, has created the foundations for future growth. The organisation is now focused on strengthening supporter insight, building a more integrated view of audiences and creating a smarter, more data-led approach to engagement and income generation. There is a clear appetite across the organisation to modernise and accelerate fundraising performance.

We are looking for a confident senior fundraising leader who combines strategic ambition with strong financial judgement, effective use of donor data and a clear understanding of regulation, compliance and return on investment. You will be credible with senior stakeholders, able to lead through change and passionate about building inclusive, high-performing teams focused on meaningful impact.

You will directly lead key roles across the function, including the Head of Public Fundraising and the Legacies Administration Lead, creating the leadership, confidence, systems and ways of working needed for public fundraising to grow. This role is for someone who can set direction, build the conditions for teams to succeed and help the function scale income and deliver lasting impact.

This role sits at the heart of Mencap's growth strategy. While there are areas of strong performance and established success, there are also significant opportunities to strengthen strategic planning, prioritisation, audience development and supporter engagement. The successful candidate will help shape the organisation's next fundraising strategy, ensuring investment decisions, income ambitions and delivery plans are aligned and achievable.

• Develop and begin delivering a public fundraising and engagement strategy aligned to Mencap 2030.

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced major donor, philanthropy or partnership fundraiser to take a leading role in developing high-value relationships for a national Christian charity tackling poverty across the UK.

For someone moving away from rough sleeping, having a safe place to stay can be the first step towards something much bigger. Gray’s Inn Road is a 16 bed short stay service in Camden, giving people the stability, support and breathing space they need to begin rebuilding their lives and move towards a home they can sustain.

As Service Manager, you’ll lead the team that makes that possible. You’ll create a service where people are treated with dignity, listened to and supported as individuals, while giving your team the leadership, challenge and encouragement they need to do their best work. From the quality of assessments and support planning to safeguarding, risk management and move on, you’ll set the standard for practice and make sure residents receive consistent, psychologically informed support that responds to what matters to them.

You’ll also build the relationships that help people move forward. Working closely with housing, health, substance use, criminal justice and other partners, you’ll help remove barriers, strengthen pathways into support and create more opportunities for residents beyond the service. Specialist experience 

For this role, you will need significant leadership experience across both Criminal Justice and Housing/Homelessness services, including housing or accommodation-based provision. 

You will understand the complexity of working across criminal justice, housing, local government and other statutory systems and be experienced in building effective relationships with commissioners and partners while maintaining strong operational and contractual oversight. 

This is a 12-month fixed-term appointment at an important stage in Cranstoun’s transformation, offering the opportunity to lead a significant portfolio, strengthen operational performance and help shape the future development of our operating model.

Role Overview:

The role will be carried out in the finance department, which is situated within Battersea Park. The role will be reporting to the Head of Finance. Regular duties would initially consist of, but not be limited to, the below. They will be reviewed on a regular basis to ensure they are in line with development needs. 

Central Services ensuresthe company operates smoothly and assists in working towards Enables strategic direction. Supporting the various services that make up Enable, Central Services consists of small and high output teams including Human Resources, Marcomms, Operations and Finance. Together, these teams make up the foundation of our business, driving our mission and fostering growth and development. 

Main Duties/Responsibilities:

• Lead the monthly, quarterly and annual reporting processes, delivering to the agreed timetable.
• Line manage the Finance Officer, providing guidance, objective setting, appraisal and performance management.
• Prepare and post all month-end journals, including accruals, prepayments and payroll journals.
• Post deferred and accrued income entries in Sage Intacct in line with the organisation’s revenue recognition policy.
• Run monthly depreciation, post fixed asset journals and maintain the fixed asset register.
• Process internal and external recharges.
• Review the bank and credit card reconciliations prepared by the Finance Officer and the debtors control account reconciliation prepared by the Credit Controller.
• Check the trial balance against the management accounts and prepare management accounts narratives and variance commentary for review by the Head of Finance.
• Compile and analyse financial data to create accurate and timely reports for management review.
• Take responsibility for all balance sheet reconciliations other than the debtors control account (prepared by the Credit Controller) and the bank and credit card accounts (prepared by the Finance Officer), ensuring reconciling items are investigated and cleared promptly.
• Review payment runs prepared by the Finance Officer ahead of approval by the Head of Finance, deputising as approver in the Head of Finance’s absence.
• Approve routine accounts receivable credit notes in line with delegated authority; credit notes above the delegated threshold and all write-offs are approved by the Head of Finance.
• Support the Credit Controller with receivables adjustments, write-offs and account queries.
• Apply accounting policies in line with relevant accounting standards and ensure they are followed across the organisation, escalating any issues to the Head of Finance.
• Assist with the preparation of the annual financial statements under the Charities SORP (FRS 102).
• Support the annual audit, preparing working papers and responding to auditor queries.
• Prepare and submit ONS returns.
• Assist with the preparation of budgets, forecasts and cash flow forecasts.
• Business partner with cross-functional teams, providing financial expertise, guidance and training as required.
• Provide recommendations to minimise risk and improve financial performance: identify areas for improvement, propose solutions and implement agreed changes.
• Provide Sage Intacct training and support to non-finance users.
• Act as the first point of contact for junior members of staff with operational and technical queries.

Skills and Experience:

• Qualified Accountant - ACCA/ACA/CIMA.
• Experience operating at Management Accountant level within a charity or not-for-profit environment.
• Knowledge of relevant accounting systems. Strong IT literacy, Microsoft Excel in particular.
• Demonstrable experience of owning a month-end close and full balance sheet reconciliation cycle.
• Strong attention to detail and able to produce work to a high level of accuracy.
• Good problem-solving ability.
• Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain financial information to non-finance colleagues.
• Ability to prioritise and work independently to deadlines.
• Experience of Sage Intacct.
• Knowledge of the Charities SORP (FRS 102) and fund accounting.
• Experience of delivering system training to non-finance users.
• Experience of ONS or other statutory return submissions.

Events Manager

About the role

We're looking for an experienced Events Manager to lead the planning and delivery of a diverse portfolio of in-person, virtual and hybrid events for professional scientists. From conferences and seminars to workshops and training sessions, you'll be at the heart of how we bring our scientific community together, creating excellent stakeholder experiences, strong financial outcomes, and events that help us live out our charitable mission.

Reporting to the Head of Membership, this is a fantastic opportunity for a proactive events professional to take ownership of a busy, varied portfolio and make a genuine impact on the reputation of a leading learned society.

What you'll be doing

Strategic development

• Develop and implement our annual events programme, aligned to our mission, strategic objectives and members' professional development needs
• Use data, evaluation and stakeholder feedback to continuously improve how we plan and deliver events

Event planning and delivery

• Plan, coordinate and deliver a diverse programme of high-quality events, on time, within budget and to a high standard
• Manage the full mix of in-person, virtual and hybrid formats, ensuring digital platforms and in-person experiences work seamlessly together
• Own event logistics end-to-end: venue sourcing, contract negotiation, supplier management, registration, accommodation, catering, accessibility and technical infrastructure
• Act as the key point of contact for speakers, delegates, suppliers and stakeholders, delivering excellent customer service throughout
• Support the recruitment and management of speakers, chairs and facilitators
• Champion best-practice project management and a culture of continuous improvement across the events function

Financial and commercial management

• Prepare and manage event budgets, forecasts and financial reporting
• Monitor income and expenditure to ensure events are financially sustainable and hit agreed targets
• Identify opportunities for efficiencies, margin improvement and revenue growth
• Work closely with Marketing, Communications and Membership colleagues to maximise attendance and engagement

Risk, governance and compliance

• Ensure events comply with relevant legislation, health and safety, safeguarding, data protection and organisational policy
• Identify and manage operational, financial and reputational risks
• Maintain accurate event documentation, contracts and records

Monitoring and evaluation

• Set and track KPIs for the events programme
• Analyse attendance, financial performance and delegate feedback
• Report on outcomes and opportunities to senior management, committees and Council

What we're looking for

Essential experience

• Significant experience planning and delivering in-person, online and hybrid academic or professional events
• Track record of managing multiple projects simultaneously to tight deadlines
• Experience of budget management, financial monitoring and reporting
• Experience procuring and managing venues, suppliers and event-related contracts

Desirable experience

• Background working within membership organisations, professional associations, scientific, charity or PCO (professional conference organiser) environments

Working arrangements

Take the next step in your fundraising career

Lauderdale House is looking for an experienced fundraiser who is ready for a role with more responsibility and the opportunity to help shape how fundraising develops across the organisation.

This is our first dedicated fundraising role, but you won't be starting from scratch. We have successful previous trust fundraising, established education and community programmes, previous individual donors and a large community of people with a long-standing connection to Lauderdale House.

Working closely with the Director, you'll help develop fundraising into a consistent and sustainable income stream, with a particular focus on Trusts & Foundations andIndividual & Legacy Giving.

You'll develop and manage a pipeline of trust and foundation applications, write compelling applications and reports, build relationships with funders and develop approaches to encourage longer-term support.

You'll also help establish our individual and legacy giving programme, researching and cultivating prospective donors, making fundraising approaches, developing donor stewardship and putting appropriate systems in place for donor data and Gift Aid.

Alongside this, you'll contribute to fundraising strategy, impact and evaluation, cases for support, fundraising communications, reporting and compliance.

About you

We're looking for someone with solid practical fundraising experience and a track record of securing income who is ready to take the next step in their career and possesses all or most of the following:

• a successful track record in fundraising relevant to this role, preferably in arts, heritage and/or community organisations;
• experience managing your own fundraising workload or portfolio with a good degree of independence;
• the confidence to use your judgement, make recommendations and move work forward without extensive day-to-day supervision;
• experience taking responsibility for fundraising targets or income goals;
• a strong understanding of fundraising trends, especially within the arts, heritage and community sectors;
• an understanding of the role of fundraising in organisational growth;
• knowledge of fundraising regulations, data protection, ethical standards and best practice;

You don't need to have previously been a Head of Fundraising or run an entire fundraising function. You might currently be a Fundraising Officer, Senior Fundraising Officer, Development Officer or similar and be ready for a role with more responsibility and scope to use your own judgement.

Above all, we're looking for someone who combines fundraising knowledge and real experience with initiative. You won't be expected to arrive knowing everything about Lauderdale House, but you should have enough fundraising experience to recognise opportunities, recommend a course of action and confidently take responsibility for delivering it.
