Purpose of the Role

The Safeguarding Manager plays a key leadership role within the Archdiocese Safeguarding Service, supporting the Head of Safeguarding in the delivery and development of a safe, responsive and professional safeguarding function across the Diocese.

The postholder will provide operational management, administrative support, case supervision and guidance, ensuring safeguarding concerns and allegations are managed effectively, compassionately, and in accordance with statutory guidance, national and Archdiocese safeguarding policies, and procedures.

The Safeguarding Manager will help promote a culture of safeguarding across archdiocesan communities, ensuring that children, young people and adults at risk are protected and supported.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Safeguarding Management

• Support the Head of Safeguarding in the day-to-day management of the archdiocesan safeguarding service.
• Oversee the triaging, recording and supervision of safeguarding concerns, allegations, disclosures and referrals across the Diocese.
• Ensure safeguarding casework is managed consistently, appropriately and within required timescales.
• Set actions and monitor completion.
• Complete case work when required.
• Monitor lessons learnt and complaints to ensure quality assurance and learning.
• Support the recruitment and management of Parish Safeguarding Recruitment (PSR’s)
• Provide advice and guidance to clergy, parish safeguarding representatives, archdiocesan staff and volunteers on safeguarding matters and safer recruitment process.
• Manage invoices and budget requirements.
• Monitor safeguarding practices and contribute to quality assurance and continuous improvement.

Supervision and Team Leadership

• Record, triage, allocate and oversee safeguarding caseloads within the team.
• Foster a collaborative, reflective and trauma-informed safeguarding culture within the team.
• Assist in recruitment, induction and training of safeguarding volunteers (PSR’s).
• When required, support Head of Safeguarding in supervision and guidance for the safeguarding office.

Case Management and Risk Assessment

• Support complex safeguarding investigations and risk management processes.
• Participate in safeguarding meetings, strategy discussions and case conferences where required.
• Ensure accurate, confidential and timely safeguarding records are maintained.
• Contribute to the development and monitoring of safeguarding plans and risk assessments.
• Escalate high-risk or sensitive matters appropriately to the Head of Safeguarding.

Partnership Working

• Develop and maintain effective working relationships with statutory agencies, including social care, police, probation and health services.
• Liaise with national Catholic safeguarding bodies and other dioceses where appropriate.
• Support parishes and archdiocesan organisations in implementing safeguarding policies and safer working practices.

Training and Safeguarding Culture

• Support the delivery and promotion of safeguarding training throughout the archdiocese.
• Encourage awareness of safeguarding responsibilities among clergy, volunteers and staff.
• Contribute to safeguarding audits, inspections and policy reviews.
• Support the quarterly safeguarding sub-committee and Trustee meetings.
• Promote best practice and ensure compliance with national safeguarding standards and Church requirements.

About the role

Sands is the UK’s leading pregnancy and baby loss charity. We work to save babies’ lives and to ensure that anyone affected by pregnancy or baby loss receives the care and support they need.

We are looking for a compassionate, organised and collaborative Hospital Liaison Coordinator to support the delivery, embedding and sustainability of the National Bereavement Care Pathway in England.

This role will help strengthen Sands’ hospital liaison work by building, supporting and developing our network of Hospital Liaison Volunteers. Hospital Liaison Volunteers provide an important link between Sands, NHS services and local communities, helping hospital staff understand and access Sands’ support, training, resources and bereavement care guidance.

The postholder will work closely with volunteers, NHS staff and Sands colleagues to support high-quality, equitable bereavement care for bereaved parents and families. They will coordinate activity, monitor progress, gather feedback and insight, and help ensure learning from hospitals and volunteers informs continuous improvement across the NBCP England programme.

This is a role for someone who is highly organised, values-driven and confident working with people. You will bring experience of supporting volunteer networks, coordinating projects and building strong relationships with a range of stakeholders. You will also be able to communicate sensitively and clearly, work with feedback and evidence, and develop your understanding of bereavement care, maternity services and NHS systems.

Key responsibilities 

Support and develop the Hospital Liaison Volunteer network 

1. Develop, support and strengthen Sands’ network of Hospital Liaison Volunteers in England.

By analysing performance data, identifying emerging needs and providing strategic insight, you'll help shape service improvements, strengthen partnership working and support better outcomes for Birmingham residents.

The role:

Every year CSE's advice service helps thousands of people to cut their energy bills, improve their homes and stay warm. Thousands more struggle with cold homes and unaffordable bills without ever knowing that free, expert advice is available. This role exists to change that.

As Marketing Manager, you will grow awareness of, and referrals to, CSE's energy advice services across both B2B and B2C audiences. You will build relationships with the professionals and community organisations best placed to refer people to us and develop campaigns that reach householders directly.

You will own a sustained marketing plan, produce high-quality materials and measure your impact. Reporting to the Head of Communications, you will work closely with colleagues across Communications and our Household Energy Services team. It is a creative, fast-moving environment where good ideas get acted on.

Specific responsibilities

An applicant appointed to the role will be expected to:

• Develop and maintain a sustained, practical marketing plan for CSE's advice services, covering referrer engagement (B2B) and direct-to-public activity (B2C).
• Work with Household Energy Services project managers to set clear objectives and targets, and report on performance.
• Research and map the professional referrer landscape, identifying the right intermediaries for each project area.
• Build and maintain a segmented referrer database and lead a proactive outreach programme, re-engaging lapsed partners.
• Develop messaging and materials that help referrers understand our advice services and promote them confidently to their clients.
• Deliver public-facing campaigns across print, community and digital channels, including activity reaching people who are digitally excluded.
• Work with the Digital Communications Manager on project-specific digital activity, including Google Ads, website content and email campaigns.
• Produce print-ready materials independently in Canva or Adobe Creative Suite, in line with CSE's brand and co-branding guidelines.
• Own marketing measurement for the advice services, using data to inform decisions and make the case for investment.

• Three to five years' experience in a marketing role, with responsibility for planning and delivering campaigns or marketing programmes.

Context and Background

The Finance function has responsibility to ensure the accurate recording of all income and expenditure of the NSPCC and its associated companies; the collation and presentation of budget/forecast; monitoring of both consolidated income and expenditure against budget/forecast; and the preparation of statutory annual accounts, tax compliance and associated returns. It is also responsible for the payment of all invoices, collection of monies due, the payment of staff and the provision of advice on financial matters throughout the organisation.

The Senior Finance Business Partner role sits within the Finance & Technology Directorate and reports to the Head of Finance Business Partnering. The role is responsible for the delivery of all aspects of operational financial management within each directorate area or sub-area it supports, through the provision of high-quality financial management and advice, together with comprehensive reporting and analysis, to both inform and aid decision making. The role is expected to operate at both a strategic and operational level, building strong relationships with internal and external partners, and be a key and active member of the Directorate’s senior management teams.

Job purpose

  Budget, Planning, Forecasting and Financial Management

•   Produce, collate and ensure timely delivery of accurate departmental and Directorate budget and forecasts for the areas the role supports. Ensure relevant budget assumptions are followed; phased budget/forecast templates are completed; along with the production of detailed analysis and commentary backing up the budget and forecasts.

•   Provide timely, accurate information and advice to budget holders to allow effective management of their budgets and assist them in carrying out their financial duties, constructively challenging them where appropriate.

•   Highlight potential opportunities and risks; supporting the formulation and implementation of mitigation plans where necessary.

•   Propose and develop appropriate cost drivers and key performance measures to accurately monitor directorate performance.

This will include responsibility for month-end data cleansing, journal production and authorisation, which could include prepayments, income & expenditure accruals, income deferrals, recharge journals, restricted and designated fund journals and other general journals.

•   Prepare and deliver accurate consolidated financial monthly, quarterly, annual and ad-hoc operational performance reporting packs to defined deadlines, with no material errors, omissions or miscoding. To include Directorate monthly operational review and quarterly business review packs.

•   Present Directorate financial reporting as required.

•   Analyse, interpret and communicate financial and performance data, and provide financial advice in the form of operational performance and management reports.

•   Complete financial returns and questionnaires as required.

•   Prepare revenue and capital project reporting.

•   Work alongside the Head of Finance Business Partnering to prepare financial models to support the evaluation of any proposed business changes, investment appraisals and subsequent implementation, supporting our stakeholders to prepare robust business cases from a financial perspective, identifying and quantifying associated costs, benefits, risks and funding solutions, in a timely manner.

•   Own restricted and designated fund reporting, alongside monitoring of appropriate allocation of costs to funds. Accountable for understanding and considering the future implications of pledged and committed funds; escalating concerns and proposing mitigations as appropriate.

•   Ensure the Directorates use the organisation’s financial systems (e.g. Proactis for procurement) appropriately and effectively.

•   Ensure the financial management of the Directorates is as efficient as possible. Implement improvements and developments to reporting, processes and procedures; ensuring changes are documented.

Internal Controls and Compliance

•   Ensure the effective development, implementation and maintenance of financial controls, processes and procedures. Work with both the Directorate’s and with other members of finance to ensure best practice is applied across systems and processes.

•   Promote and abide with the Society's financial policies, ensuring Directorate compliance at all times.

•   Maintain the integrity of the Directorate’s finances ensuring compliance with appropriate accounting standards, financial regulations and internal procedures. In addition, ensure audit trails are transparent and complete.

•   Train staff in the application of statutory regulations, internal control procedures and standards and to provide regular follow-up training.

•   Provide accurate timely information for internal and external auditors and to take follow-up action on reports issued as required.

•   Keep up to date with local or national legislation and reporting requirements and to advise of these additional regulations and ensure they are complied with. This might for example include Charity Reporting requirements in Northern Ireland/Scotland.

  Training

•   Identify requirements and train key stakeholders and other relevant staff in matters relating to financial management, compliance and processes. Provide verbal advice, written procedures (working with other finance staff) and financial training, to enable budgetary control and decision making on the effective use of resources, along with contribution to the production of financial information and transparent financial management.

•   Qualified Accountant (CCAB or equivalent) with extensive experience of working within a management accounts or business partnering function of a complex organisation. Knowledge of Charity accounting (SORP) desirable.

• Assist with the day-to-day operation and upkeep of buildings and grounds
• Coordinate planned and reactive maintenance works
• Conduct regular inspections to identify issues and ensure standards are maintained
• Ensure facilities comply with health and safety regulations and building standards
• Maintain and update health & safety records, logs, and risk assessments
• Support compliance checks and statutory inspections (e.g., fire safety, electrical testing)
• Report hazards and ensure corrective actions are taken
• On a rota basis, support the Finance and Operations Directorate by covering the Hammersmith reception between 2pm and 5pm, and on the days when the Operations Administrator is out of office

About You:

To be successful as the Facilities Officer you will have great organisation and problem solving skills, a good understanding of health and safety regulations and the ability to communicate effectively with internal stakeholders and external suppliers. You will need to travel regularly between sites, build relationships with different teams and be the go-to person for facilities management queries.
