Community Action Nepal (CAN) was established 25 years ago by the world-renowned mountaineer Doug Scott CBE, to raise the living standards of remote mountain communities in Nepal. In this time CAN, working predominantly with our implementation partner in Nepal, has built 17 schools, 19 health posts and three Porter Rescue Shelters and delivered a wide range of livelihoods, agriculture and cultural programmes, improving the lives of many thousands of people in rural Nepal. RAIS Lancaster is a charity founded in 2017 to offer advocacy, information, and support to refugees and asylum seekers in our area. We are volunteer-led, with a small staff team of two currently. We currently offer five drop-ins a week for asylum seekers and refugees, in collaboration with partner organisations, in Lancaster and Morecambe. Each drop-in is staffed by paid and voluntary workers.
We also conduct support work for asylum seekers and refugees facing more complex issues in one-to-one appointments in our office at the Cornerstone in Lancaster, and accompany clients to appointments where appropriate to offer support and advocacy. As the needs of asylum seekers and refugees in our area change, we adapt and develop our work to support those we work with. We are expecting to soon be registered with the Immigration Advice Authority.

Who we are
Every year, thousands of people in the UK face court alone. Often through no choice of their own, people must represent themselves at a moment that could have life-changing outcomes. This includes loss of access to children or homelessness. At the same time, people facing court alone may find themselves up against a party with legal representation. We provide a safe space with volunteers who listen to each client’s individual story. The rest of our team works full time in-office. However, for this particular part-time role we aim to agree on a working pattern that provides consistency and predictability while fitting around your other commitments. We particularly welcome applications from experienced candidates returning to work after a career break, including parents and carers.
About you
You’ll have strong experience managing or co-ordinating a busy office or operational environment. You’ll be confident in taking on tasks proactively, looking for ways to plan ahead to ensure smooth operational running and improved efficiency, and independently finding solutions. You’ll have excellent communication skills, liaising with all team members and providing the team with essential operational support as needed. You’ll have good IT office skills.

Take ownership of the day-to-day running of the London office, ensuring it is organised and efficient
Help co-ordinate logistics for meetings and staff travel
Co-ordinate IT support, equipment and asset management
Lead IT migration projects (e.g. changing software/support suppliers, as directed)
Ensure the office and kitchen are adequately supplied
Support with HR admin including recruitment of staff, volunteers and contractors
Organise staff socials
Organise cycle to work scheme
Liaise with accountants, support basic book-keeping (receipt filing)
Support with internal file storage, physical and digital
Support with maintenance of databases
Assist with postage and physical mailouts to our supporters
Commit to highest standards of data protection
Periodically undertake required office risk assessments
