Purpose of the Role

The Director of External Affairs and Growth is an SLT role responsible for leveraging the voice and power of the eoa's network to influence and accelerate the growth of the employee owned sector.

The role leads the eoa’s external affairs, policy and insights, marcomms and events, shaping the external environment for employee ownership and securing the funding and commercial income needed to support sustainable sector growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead external affairs strategy, building the relationships and influence needed to shape policy, remove barriers and expand EO.
• Build strategic relationships and secure grant funding and commercial partnerships, generating income to support advocacy, events and sector growth initiatives, including the UK EO Growth Strategy.

1. Event Coordination and Delivery

1.1: Coordinate and deliver regular community engagement activities, including; coffee mornings and

support events.

2. Awareness, Training and Engagement

(CYP) and Bereavement in workplace support training.

2.3: Lead awareness and advocacy activities with local ‘support champions’, including professionals

within non-emergency services.

3. Partnership and Network Development

3.1: Actively engage with local bereavement networks through attendance at meetings, hosting

information stands and building strong professional relationships across the region.

3.2: Develop and maintain effective links with community partners to expand reach and awareness of

services.

4. Volunteer Support

4.1: Act as a key local contact for volunteers.

4.2: Support the recruitment, training and retention of volunteers in collaboration with the wider

team.

5.1: Maintain and take ownership of relevant systems and spreadsheets, including those used for:

WDC, Whale and Dolphin Conservation, is the leading global charity dedicated to the conservation and protection of whales and dolphins. We are looking for a full-time, social media officer to join our team in Chippenham, Wiltshire.  Reporting to the head of comms, you will help to develop WDC’s busy social media activity, advising fundraising, campaigns and policy colleagues on the best ways to grow the number of people who support our work. 

We are looking for someone with proven track record of developing and delivering digital communications plans, experience in the use of social media to support communications, marketing and/or fundraising functions, and a good understanding of digital platforms and social media (especially Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok). 

The role requires solid copywriting skills, an eye for detail, creative thinking, a proactive attitude, commitment, and enthusiasm for the cause.

The Role
We are looking for an Advice & Guidance Officer who can make a meaningful difference in the lives of deaf children, young people, and their families.

A key focus of this role will be delivering the service remotely using technology. In addition, you will use your interpersonal skills and experience working with families to connect with local community groups, raise awareness of our services, promote membership, and provide support to families, deaf young people, and professionals.
 
This role is part time, based on 21 hours per week.
 
This is a fully remote role, but will have a focus on Central Scotland Casework and will require some regional travel so applicants should live in Scotland and possess a driving licence and have access to a car.
 
 
What you'll do
 

• Deliver tailored information and advice to individuals and groups of deaf children, young people, and their families.
• Support deaf children, young people, and their families in becoming more confident in articulating their needs independently.
• Help deaf children, young people, and their families explore their options and decide on a preferred course of action.
• Develop and maintain effective relationships with professionals and organisations that support deaf children.
• Attend both in-person and online events to provide information and advice tailored to different audiences.

 
What you'll need
 

• Significant experience and understanding of the skills and practices required to deliver person-centred support to children, young people, and their families.
• Experience providing information and advice to families and young people, both digitally and face-to-face.
• A strong working knowledge of education and special educational needs, including relevant legislation, government guidance, and local implementation.
• An understanding of deafness and its impact on children, family dynamics, raising a deaf child, and child development-translating this into effective, child-centred practice.
• Strong digital skills and a sound understanding of agile values & principles.
• A criminal record check / PVG Scheme Disclosure (if offered the position).
