Background
Lumos Foundation works to realise every child’s right to a family by transforming care systems around the world. Our vision is a world in which all children grow up in safe and loving families within supported communities. Founded in 2005 by author J.K. Rowling, Lumos partners with governments, civil society, and young people with lived experience to transform care systems globally and advocate for family-based solutions that help children thrive.
We ensure that families receive the support they need to stay together or reunite, and that children grow up in family-based settings such as foster or kinship care, not institutions. Despite clear evidence of the harms of institutionalisation, more than 5 million children worldwide continue to live in institutions. And a much larger number of children are at risk of family breakdown and separation – those living in poverty, experiencing domestic violence and abuse, and living in countries affected by conflict.
We are ambitious for children. In the next 10 years, Lumos will enable 500,000 children in care to return to family-based care and prevent 10 million children from experiencing family breakdown and separation – so that they can thrive in their own families. Working with local, national, and global partners, Lumos supports government-led transformation of childcare systems across Asia, Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and Latin America- driving systemic and sustainable change. Lumos’ ambition for children is significant and will require the organisation and its partners to work in new ways – with a pace, drive and urgency that this moment demands – and that children everywhere deserve. Lumos’ success will continue to be based not just on what we do, but on how we do it – our values. We embrace collaboration. We strive for excellence. We show respect. We always care. And we are passionate. We are Lumos.

Lumos’ ambition for children is significant and will require the organisation and its partners to work in new ways, with a pace, drive, and urgency that this moment demands, and that children everywhere deserve. Lumos’ success will continue to be based not just on what we do, but on how we do it – our values. We embrace collaboration. We strive for excellence. We show respect. We always care. And we are passionate. We are Lumos.

What if your ability to transform tax processes could unlock thousands of pounds in savings while building best-in-class compliance systems for one of the UK's biggest charities?
As a Financial Accountant within our Finance & Assurance directorate, you'll be part of a team that's transforming how we deliver financial partnership across the organisation. We're on an ambitious journey to become the Society's single point of financial truth. We aim to be trusted partners and credible experts who enable the organisation to make faster, better-informed decisions.
This is a highly technical, hands-on role where you'll own and improve our tax function. You'll be responsible for the essential technical delivery, preparing VAT returns, managing partial exemption calculations, overseeing Corporation Tax and Gift Aid. Ensuring we meet every regulatory requirement. But what sets this role apart is the opportunity to transform how we deliver this work. You'll drive continuous improvement across all tax processes, identifying inefficiencies, implementing automation, redesigning workflows, and developing robust controls that optimise our position while maintaining compliance. This is your opportunity to leave your mark on a critical area of the finance function.
Your process improvement mindset and ability to explain complex matters clearly, will help colleagues make tax-efficient decisions.
About you:
You're a qualified accountant with strong process improvement experience who thrives on identifying inefficiencies and implementing better ways of working. You're excited by the prospect of shaping an entire area within a finance function.
You're a problem-solver who constantly asks, "how can we do this better?" You have a genuine curiosity about how things work and a drive to continuously improve. Existing knowledge of VAT compliance, particularly partial exemption, would be beneficial, as would broader familiarity with Corporation Tax, Gift Aid, and other statutory obligations. However, what matters most is your appetite to learn and your determination to find better ways forward.
You'll have:
- Proven experience driving process improvements in a finance environment, demonstrating where you've identified inefficiencies, redesigned workflows, or delivered measurable improvements.
- A CCAB qualification achieved through education, or demonstrable equivalent knowledge and experience that evidences your understanding of the role's requirements.
- Some experience with VAT, Corporation Tax, Gift Aid, or other UK tax regulations. You don't need to be a tax specialist, but you should have exposure to tax compliance and a genuine interest in developing deep expertise in this area.
- The ability to quickly build technical knowledge and confidence in complex tax scenarios, with a problem-solving approach to navigating regulations.
- Experience working with HMRC or other regulatory bodies, demonstrating credibility and professionalism in external relationships.
- Demonstrated experience as a Financial Accountant in a large or complex organisation.
- The ability to work effectively across departments and at all levels, translating complex financial or technical matters into practical guidance.
- Experience with cloud-based ERP systems (we use Unit4) and a mindset of continuous improvement.
What you'll focus on:
- Driving continuous improvement across the tax function.
- Developing robust tax processes and controls that optimise our position while ensuring compliance.
- Overseeing VAT compliance – preparing and reviewing accurate VAT returns, managing partial exemption calculations, and optimising our VAT position.
- Overseeing Corporation Tax and Gift Aid compliance as well as other statutory tax obligations.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with HMRC, managing enquiries or audits with professionalism.
- Providing clear tax guidance across the Society, empowering colleagues to make tax-efficient decisions.
- Working seamlessly with colleagues across the Finance team to provide integrated financial partnership, while role-modelling our values.
Can you see yourself as the person who transforms our tax function, not just maintains it? Are you ready to shape an entire area within our finance function and make your mark?

Our Second Home (OSH) is a youth movement for young people with refugee experience to build community, become leaders, and flourish in the place they now call home. Each year, thousands of displaced young people arrive in the UK facing isolation, disruption to education, and limited opportunities to belong. OSH exists to change that.
Our work begins with residential programmes, where young people form friendships, build confidence, and experience joy and belonging. From there, many go on to take part in our nationally certified Leadership Training Programme and our regular Youth Hubs in London and Bristol. With the right support, young people return as peer leaders themselves – shaping programmes, mentoring others, and helping to build a self-sustaining, youth-led movement.
We are now looking for a Communications & Content Producer to help bring this work to life. This role is about turning the energy, warmth and leadership that exists across OSH into compelling stories, images and short videos that deepen connection with supporters, recruit volunteers, and support fundraising and events.
The role (abridged - see attached job description)
The Communications & Content Producer is a freelance role, working 1.5 days per week, reporting to the CEO. You will be responsible for capturing and producing content from across OSH’s programmes – particularly youth hubs, leadership training days and residentials – and shaping it into consistent, values-aligned output across our digital channels.
This includes attending programmes to capture photos, short-form video and quotes; identifying moments that tell the story of OSH; and maintaining a simple, organised content library. You will lead delivery of a regular social media rhythm, with a particular focus on Instagram, including posts, reels and stories, as well as adapting content for other platforms where appropriate.
You will develop and run a small number of recurring content series, write clear and engaging captions in UK English, and design simple, on-brand graphics using tools such as Canva. The role also involves producing a monthly supporter email newsletter, keeping key website pages up to date, supporting fundraising pushes and events such as the Young Leaders’ Graduation Showcase, and helping amplify partners, funders and sector allies.
Alongside content creation, you will put in place light systems – a content calendar, simple co-creation processes for staff and volunteers, and basic analytics – to track what is working and refine output over time.
About You
You do not need a traditional communications background, but you should be excited by youth spaces, storytelling and social impact. You are proactive, organised and practical, with the confidence to work independently and make good use of limited hours.
You will have experience managing social media channels and creating content for an organisation, campaign or project. You are comfortable capturing and editing photos and short-form video on a smartphone, writing clearly and concisely in UK English, and adapting tone for different platforms including Instagram, email and LinkedIn. You care about quality, but you are not precious – you get content made.
Crucially, you are confident working in youth and community settings, committed to safeguarding and consent, and thoughtful about how young people are represented. You build trust easily, encourage others to contribute ideas and content, and understand the importance of protecting dignity as well as telling a strong story.
Experience working or volunteering in youth, refugee or grassroots community settings is highly valued. Alignment with OSH’s values – young people at the centre, acting with not for, leadership, and freedom and acceptance – is essential.
The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.

About Hatch
Hatch Enterprise is an award-winning charity that exists to level the playing field in entrepreneurship. Our beneficiaries build businesses that tackle some of society's most vital challenges through social enterprise, addressing a wide range of socioeconomic problems, from homelessness to community cohesion, healthcare and climate change.
We recognise that talent is distributed equally, but opportunities are not. Too many people with ideas and ambition never get the chance to turn them into thriving businesses that create lasting social change. That’s why we’re on a mission to nurture innovation across the UK’s diverse society, to build a fairer, more sustainable economy that works for everyone.
We are a team of 20 passionate changemakers, working alongside underrepresented founders across the UK to help them imagine, launch and grow sustainable businesses, community interest companies and charities. Our work is rooted in belief in human potential, practical support and deep connection to the communities we serve.
In early 2026, Hatch will launch its first three-year fundraising campaign - a defining moment that will allow us to back more innovators, push boundaries and create lasting social, environmental and economic change both for those we support, and the people they serve through their ventures. This role sits right at the heart of that ambition
The role
This maternity cover role offers a meaningful opportunity to help secure the funding that makes our work possible at a pivotal point in Hatch’s journey.
Reporting to the Director of Fundraising & Engagement, you will lead the delivery of Trusts & Foundations, Statutory and Major Donor fundraising, while managing our inspiring partners, you will build new income pipelines aligned to Hatch’s pioneering programmes. You will also support the launch and early delivery of our three-year fundraising campaign.
Alongside hands-on fundraising, you will line manage, mentor and develop the Fundraising Manager, helping to build confidence, capability and strong, future-focused fundraising practice.
What you’ll be doing
-
Securing transformational funding from Trusts & Foundations, Statutory and Major donors, enabling more underrepresented founders to turn ideas into sustainable businesses.
-
Building and stewarding a strong pipeline of opportunity, ensuring Hatch can grow its reach and respond to demand with confidence.
-
Crafting and delivering compelling proposals and presentations that bring Hatch’s mission, impact and ambition to life and inspire partners to invest in change.
-
Caring for and deepening funder relationships through thoughtful, high-quality account management, reporting and ongoing engagement.
-
Helping launch and build momentum for Hatch’s first three-year fundraising campaign, a pivotal moment in scaling our impact.
-
Strengthening people, processes and systems, so fundraising at Hatch is effective, ethical and continually learning.
About you
You are someone who believes deeply in fair access to opportunity and understands the power of funding to unlock long-term change.
You may be motivated by seeing ideas become reality, by helping others succeed, or by building partnerships that genuinely matter. You bring care and intention to your relationships, and you want funders to feel proud of the impact their support enables.
You’ll bring experience securing six figure gifts within the charity or not-for-profit sector, alongside strong proposal writing and relationship-building skills. Just as importantly, you are thoughtful, collaborative and committed to doing fundraising in a way that is ethical, inclusive and values-led.
You enjoy mentoring others, sharing knowledge and building confidence. You’re organised and proactive, but also reflective, keen to learn, improve and adapt in a fast-moving environment.
If you’re excited by the chance to contribute your skills to work that creates real opportunity for people too often excluded, this role could be for you.
We warmly welcome applications from people with lived experience of the barriers our founders face. If you are excited by this role and our mission, but do not meet every requirement listed, we encourage you to apply – we value potential, perspective and a willingness to grow as much as experience.
Applicants must have the right to work in the UK and be based in the UK for the duration of the role.
Interested?
Please submit your application on the Hatch portal, sending your CV, and a cover letter answering the two questions below;
1) Please describe a six- or seven-figure partnership that you personally secured. What motivated the funder to invest, how did you build and steward the relationship, and what does this experience say about your approach to fundraising and why we should recruit you for this role?
2) Please share a funder you believe Hatch should prioritise approaching, and why? Please reflect on how our mission aligns with their values, and how your experience would help turn that alignment into a successful funding partnership.
We are only accepting applications via the portal, which is accessible on our website. Please note - we will not consider any applications unless they include a CV and a cover letter that responds to the points above.
If you have any questions or need any help with your application, please contact us via our website (recruiters will be politely turned away).
