DIRECTOR OF FINANCE AND RESOURCES

They are now seeking an exceptional Director of Finance and Resources to help ensure that extraordinary mission work is sustainable for generations to come.

As a member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), you will provide strategic leadership across CMS's financial sustainability, organisational infrastructure and central resources. This is a genuinely broad and influential role, covering financial strategy and management, investments, treasury, risk, legal and regulatory compliance, property and facilities, IT and cyber security, and relevant corporate governance. You will also maintain oversight of CMS's residual pension-related responsibilities following the transfer of its defined-benefit pension liabilities.

You will be a trusted adviser to the CEO, board of trustees and the wider SLT, providing the financial clarity, challenge and confidence that enables CMS to make wise, sustainable decisions in service of its mission. You will lead four direct reports (Head of Finance, Head of ICT, Facilities Manager and Head of Legal) and serve as a director of a number of CMS subsidiary entities.

You will be a qualified accountant with significant senior finance leadership experience, ideally gained within a charity, not-for-profit or values-led organisation. You will bring proven ability to contribute at executive and board level, with strong experience across financial planning, audit, internal controls, management reporting and team leadership.

But this role asks for more than technical expertise. CMS is looking for someone with the wisdom to balance prudent stewardship with an appropriate appetite for risk, the courage to hold a firm line when necessary, and the humility to lead in a way that enables others to flourish. You will be collaborative, relational and service-oriented, someone who genuinely believes that finance exists to serve mission, not the other way around.

The Role

This varied and rewarding part-time role has two distinct strands. You will provide high-quality executive and governance support to our CEO, managing his diary, coordinating board processes, and ensuring follow-through on key commitments. 

You will also support the CEO in his role as International Coordinator of the Lausanne Consultation on Jewish Evangelism (LCJE), administering a global network spanning multiple countries and time zones - coordinating meetings, managing membership records, maintaining the LCJE website, and supporting international conferences and consultations.

Purpose of the Role

The Head of Operations will play a central leadership role within Bristol Avon Rivers Trust, ensuring the organisation operates safely, effectively, efficiently and sustainably as it continues to grow.

You’ll carry out key administrative tasks, growing the support and development function of the Charity. This is an exciting opportunity to help Cambridge City Foodbank realise its vision of ending the need for foodbanks, through an ambitious strategy operating through networks of affordable food clubs, foodbank welcome centres, holistic support projects, and campaigning to change current systems which contribute to food insecurity.

Your tasks will include stewardship communications with individual donors and creating assets for community supporters to generate food and financial resources. You will assist the securing of income from grant giving trusts and foundations, and will undertake key executive assistant duties on behalf of the Development Director and CEO.

Main Duties:

● Develop strong individual donor relations through regular stewardship communications and powerful fundraising appeals, alongside establishing the associated data and systems;

● Create community development assets, which enables community groups to engage with and provide resources for the Charity, such as for charitable fundraising / food donation events.

● Together with the Development Director and CEO, secure income from, and maintain relations with grant giving trusts and foundations.

● Together with the Development Director and CEO, develop a team of volunteers who can support the work of the Charity’s development function.

● Support the Development Director and CEO, in their communication with supporters and corporate partners, to build good relations, gain and maintain corporate partner support.

● Liaise with colleagues across the Trussell Trust network; sharing best practice and participating in learning opportunities, to further the work of Cambridge City Foodbank.

● Other administrative activities may be requested from time to time by the CEO and Development Director, consistent with the needs of the Charity and role of Executive Assistant.

Personal Specification:

Technical skills and minimum knowledge:

● Strong administrative experience, highly organised, and able to effectively juggle multiple administrative tasks at the same time!

● Competent in the use of Zoom/Teams and MS Office software. Training will be provided to upskill in the use of Canva, Mailchimp, donor databases and social media (such as LinkedIn and Instagram).

● Excellent written and verbal communication and relationship management skills, you will inspire and motivate existing and prospective supporters, providing excellent stewardship and crafting compelling donor updates, applications and appeals.

NB. Experience of charitable fundraising is not essential when demonstrating the strong transferable skills above. Training will be provided.

Person Specification 

Essential

• Significant experience in a senior operational leadership role, ideally as a COO, Head of Operations or Director of Operations in a charity, social enterprise or purpose-driven organisation.

• Demonstrable track record of building and improving operational infrastructure: systems, processes, policies and ways of working that make organisations more effective and resilient.

• Proven people management experience, including line management of senior staff, performance development, recruitment and team culture-building.

• Strong financial literacy, including experience of budget management, grant compliance, financial reporting and working with a board finance function.

• Experience of leading or supporting governance processes, including board reporting, risk management and compliance.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate complex operational information into clear, accessible reports and presentations for senior stakeholders.

• A genuine, demonstrable commitment to racial equity and an understanding of the specific systemic barriers faced by Black professionals, artists and communities.

• The emotional intelligence and interpersonal skill to lead with care, build trust quickly and navigate complex relationships under pressure.

• The resilience and adaptability to thrive in a small, fast-paced, mission-driven organisation where the work is varied, the stakes are high and no day is the same.

Desirable

• Experience of working in or with the music industry, creative industries or arts and culture sector.

• Familiarity with Arts Council England funding frameworks, charity law and the regulatory environment for non-profit organisations.

• Experience of implementing or managing a CRM system, project management platform or other operational technology.

• Knowledge of equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) frameworks and how to embed inclusive practice into operational systems and culture.

• Experience of leading an organisation through a period of significant change, transition or growth.

• An existing network within the UK music sector, creative industries or racial equity and social justice space.

Job purpose

We are seeking a strategic, collaborative and experienced Head of income and partnerships to drive forward and deliver our plans for income growth and diversification in line with our 5-year organisational strategy.

This is a new, pivotal role at a defining moment for the organisation. As we evolve our operating model and ambitions, you will lead the development of a more diverse, sustainable and innovative income portfolio, ensuring we can continue to grow our impact in advancing the quality of veterinary care for the benefit of animals, the public and society.

Reporting directly to the CEO and working closely with your senior team colleagues, you will develop and implement our income generation strategy, unlocking opportunities across industry partnerships, trust and foundations and individual giving.

We’re looking for someone who is both strategically minded and comfortable with hands-on delivery, and who will take a proactive approach to building our income-generating capacity from the ground up.

Key responsibilities

Strategy and leadership

• Play a key role in developing and refining our income strategy to meet our organisational strategy and priorities
• Take a leadership role in income generation, collaborating with colleagues to identify and take forward opportunities for income generation and partnerships
• Advise the CEO and senior team on growth opportunities and strategic partnerships while providing coaching, guidance and support to the team on best practice in developing successful partnerships to generate income
• Encourage cross-team collaboration on income opportunities
• Work with the CEO and the rest of the senior team to set the annual business plan and budget, and monitor delivery and performance

Delivery

• Build, manage and deliver a pipeline of opportunities across multiple income streams, with a primary focus on industry partnerships, trusts and foundations, and the development of individual giving.

• Develop and secure high-value partnerships with carefully selected industry partners in line with our partnerships policy. Oversee stewardship of partners to develop successful strategic relationships in both the short and long term

• Work with senior team colleagues, clinical leads and other team members to develop compelling, outcome-driven cases for support
• Explore and support potential opportunities for income generation in other areas such as public sector and earned income.

Performance and compliance

• Monitor and report on progress towards KPIs and income targets
• Create and enhance systems, processes and tools to develop the charity’s income-generation capability
• Ensure compliance with fundraising regulation and best practice
• Work with finance colleagues on forecasting, reporting and income tracking.

Person specification

Essential

• Substantial experience leading income‑generation activity, including developing strategies, building pipelines and securing income across multiple streams
• Strong track record of developing and stewarding high‑value partnerships that deliver income and impact
• Experience personally leading successful bids, proposals and pitches
• Confidence operating both strategically and hands‑on within a small or medium-sized organisation
• Strong senior‑level stakeholder‑management skills and the ability to translate organisational strengths into compelling cases for support
• Solid financial literacy, including budgeting, forecasting and income tracking
• Clear understanding of best practice, governance and ethical considerations in income generation

Desirable

• Experience working within the veterinary or animal‑health sector, or in a similarly technical or evidence‑based environment
• Familiarity with developing income opportunities in collaboration with technical or clinical experts.
