The Degrees Initiative is a UK-based NGO that builds the capacity of developing countries to evaluate solar radiation modification (SRM), a controversial proposal for reducing some impacts of climate change by reflecting sunlight away from the Earth. Degrees is neutral on whether SRM should ever be used, but we believe that developing countries should be empowered to conduct their own research and to play a central role in SRM discussions.

Degrees’ programmatic work is centred on capacity-building through research grants and North–South and South–South collaboration schemes, outreach activities, and cross-cutting community building. As part of this, Degrees runs workshops in the Global South that bring new voices into the SRM conversation, and our research funds support scientists and other experts in developing countries as they research what SRM could mean for their regions and become part of a global research community.

The Administrative Officer role offers a fantastic opportunity for the right candidate to help scale up the organisation’s work, building on the successes of the last decade, and to help the most climate-vulnerable countries make up their own minds about SRM. 

Joining a growing team, the Administrative Officer will support the Policy Engagement and Programmes teams through the provision of administrative services to ensure the efficient organisation of, execution of, and participation in events. Secondarily, the Officer will provide general administrative support to the Policy Engagement team. 

The Administrative Officer will work under the supervision of the Policy Engagement Director, while supporting the Policy Engagement Managers and the Programmes team. Responsibilities will include: 

• Arranging travel, lodging and other travel logistics for Degrees staff, funded scientists, policymakers, and other external participants; 
• Managing the policy engagement events budgets;
• Arranging meeting facilities; 
• Facilitating requests for visas and other travel authorisations; 
• Serving as a point of contact for external event participants’ queries about travel and events; 
• Ensuring proper distribution of information documents and meeting minutes in a timely manner;
• Drafting general and formal correspondence; reviewing and formatting documents and slides according to style;
• Organising and maintaining the policy engagement team’s shared mailbox and filing system;
• Scheduling staff and other meetings; 
• Supporting processes for this new team, including aspects of monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL); 
• Maintaining the list of external policy engagement contacts; 
• Any other related activity in support of the Policy Engagement team. 

Charityworks is a 12-month, talent programme where you will deliver a full time paid job in a partner charity or housing association and have the opportunity to make real social impact.

Alongside your placement, you will also take part in an acclaimed development programme recognised by the Institute of Leadership and Management; this has been designed to accelerate your career development and provide you with the skills needed to launch your career in the social sector. 

Throughout the process you’ll be supported and challenged by our programme team, an external mentor from the sector and a peer coach to help you make the most of the year. About Chapter One

Chapter One is a dynamic, growing charity with a vision of a world in which all children have the literacy skills needed to thrive. Our mission is to close the reading gap by providing children with one-to-one support at the time they need it most. 

Our unique Online Reading Volunteer programme currently supports over 3,200 children a year. It pairs disadvantaged, struggling five to eight-year old (KS1) readers with reading support volunteers who come from over 160 local and national businesses. The volunteer ask is very focused: readers commit 30 minutes a week to read with a child using a bespoke digital platform for an entire academic year. About the Role

The Finance Assistant has responsibility for a variety of finance functions including the purchase and sales ledger, making payments to suppliers, invoicing Corporate Partners and Schools and reconciling bank accounts. They support the day to day running of the Finance Team ensuring that tasks such as posting invoices, reconciling customer accounts, supporting credit control and chasing non-payments are carried out in a timely and accurate fashion. 

The Finance Assistant reports to and works closely with the Head of Finance and plays a critical role in resolving finance queries from Chapter One colleagues, maintaining accurate financial records, supporting internal processes and contributing to the effective financial management of Chapter One. 

This role is ideal for someone who has experience in a similar position within a finance team and has good working knowledge of accounting principles and a basic understanding of income for charities. They will work remotely and will need to have access to a reliable internet connection. This role is subject to an Enhanced DBS check, and the post-holder must be permanently based in the UK at the time of applying and for the duration of their employment.

All Chapter One employees are required to attend quarterly in-person staff meetings held in various locations across the UK (all expenses covered) as well as monthly all staff virtual meetings which are held on the first Wednesday of each month from 12:00 - 13:00; participation is mandatory.

By providing high quality governance and administrative support you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our organisation. Key Tasks

 Overseeing our Governance & Administration:

Job Description 

As the Fundraising and Programme Officer at Temwa, your time will be split across both fundraising and programmes. You will support fundraising through grant proposal research, preparation and submission, as well as support project management through project development, reporting and monitoring. You will report directly to the Programme Lead as well as be accountable to the Fundraising Manager.

Temwa is a Bristol-based charity committed to empowering remote communities in Northern Malawi. Our goal is to harness the power of bringing communities together to support community-led development. We partner with hard-to-reach communities in Malawi, empowering local people to end poverty and transform their own futures. At the same time, we inspire local communities in the UK to come together to help bring about this change. We have been working in Northern Malawi for over 20 years, and our work currently includes sustainable agriculture, forestry, health and education programmes.

We have a highly skilled team of 27 full-time employees in Malawi implementing this work, based out of two offices in the Northern Region. Our UK office in Bristol comprises a small fundraising and operations team of six staff (two team members are full-time, all other team members are part-time), 3-5 regular volunteers and interns, and a wider family of volunteers and supporters. 

Key Roles and Responsibilities   

Fundraising (60%) 

• Ongoing management of a portfolio of charitable trusts and grant-making bodies 

• Researching and maintaining a database of donors including Trusts and Foundations in the UK and overseas to which Temwa could apply for fundin 

• Stewardship of current donors to promote repeat, long-term funding

• Growing the organisation’s fundraising portfolio by submitting funding proposals to new donors, including Trusts, Foundations, and Institutional Donors

• Working to form strategic partnerships with relevant organisations and agencies 

• Developing the organisation’s case for support, including through proposal templates for all projects 

• Working with the Temwa Fundraising Manager and MD on corporate partner engagement

• Supporting fundraising events, and representing Temwa at events and networking meetings 

• The postholder will be required to undertake other duties and responsibilities from time to time - Temwa is a small team, and all staff are occasionally called upon to support the work of others 

Programmes (40%) 

• Supporting project development and budgeting 

• Monitoring progress of projects against targets 

• Assisting with the implementation of agreed programme management systems, including the development of logical frameworks and other monitoring tools 

• Reviewing internal reports and leading on all donor reports 

• Supporting development of Impact and Annual Reports as well as Temwa’s other capability statements

• Liaising with the Malawi office on programme queries related to UK fundraising and programmes 

Experience, Qualifications, and Requirements: 

The ideal applicant would have the following attributes: 

• Educated to degree level or equivalent in work experience 

• Experience of fundraising, including trust and grant fundraising, with proven track record of securing income against set targets 

• Knowledge and experience of writing compelling and persuasive fundraising applications/reports

• Experience in researching trusts, foundations, and a variety of fundraising prospects, including corporate partnerships and grant opportunities 

• Experience of building good relationships with staff, external funding bodies and supporters 

• Experience of working on any international development project 

• An understanding and empathy for international development work 

• Strong written and verbal communication skills 

• Highly numerate with strong attention to detail 

• Ability to work with competing priorities to tight deadlines 

• Highly proficient in the use of Google Workspace and MS Office, particularly Excel

The Government has promised to halt the decline of nature by 2030 and to net zero by 2050, committing to decarbonising our energy systems as a core government mission. Such commitments have been made within the backdrop of a challenging economic environment. The next few years will be critical in securing nature based solutions as part of the drive to reach net zero and in developing our understanding of and engagement with private investment for nature’s recovery as these fledging funding streams evolve.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Policy Officer to convene environmental policy experts to agree bold shared policy positions. This role will focus on economic systems change, including innovative work on ways to drive private investment in nature; and on the role that nature must play in helping us to adapt to and mitigate the effects of climate change. There will be lots of thinking, lots of writing, and lots of opportunities to shape shared campaigns with excellent opportunities to engage with and work alongside some of the leading experts in these policy areas. You will also play a key role in delivering those messages to key influencers in Government and in Parliament.

Purpose of the job

Primarily, you’ll own responsibility for our small to medium grant pipeline, so we're looking for someone with a track record of successfully securing five figure funding from Trusts, Foundations, or Corporates. As well as writing high quality, comprehensive and persuasive funding applications, you’ll need to manage reporting and relationship management with the funders you successfully engage with and oversee wider fundraising areas, including playing a key role in our social media and communications, supporting sponsored event and London marathon runners, and playing a key part in planning our annual fundraising events. We see significant potential for growth within the role with the capacity for the right candidate to progress to Senior Fundraising Officer level within the first 12-18 months.

• To support the Fundraising Manager and CEO with the preparation of larger and more complex funding bids, showing capacity to progress to leading a proportion of these in time.

Person specification to include:

• Some previous experience in a fundraising role.

The post-holder will provide advice and casework in the category of immigration, nationality and asylum law. This project will focus on casework for domestic violence victims referred by Local Authorities and other partners across London.
